Ok..so im gonna go take a look at this (http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/971375192.html) car sometime this week. Ive been looking for a car to mess around with (gives me something to do while unemployed :lol) plus, I miss having a 5 speed, and dont want something other than the TL to drive all the time.

Basically, im wondering what major issues to look for? I mean, for 200 bucks im happy it runs and drives, but anything in particular I should be aware of? I am 100% clueless when it comes to the 2nd gens, but will def start reading up on them. ( already poked around a little, thanks 2ndgenguy for the performance thread  )

Anyway, any help would be great...hopefully soon I can once again be a part of the accord community

Major issues? Look for rust in the rockers, door bottoms and floor/frame. Rear frame rail and front floor pan are common spots. Also, the front shock towers can go bad. If it's a high miler, it will probably puff a little blue, and don't expect the hatch struts to actually hold up the hatch.

If it's in decent shape and you hate it, sell me your doors.

Um lets see. Main things to worry about really are worn cam lobes, and teeth that have excessive wear on the camshaft that drive the oil pump. It does mean taking off the valve cover to inspect.

Make sure after you get it that you give the cooling system a good through flushing and fresh coolant. It's the same as the 3gee really, just they are sensitive to overheating with the iron block and alloy head. But a little more so due to the CVCC head design.

I don't know of anything specific on the 82-83 models. You'll probably want to replace the main fuses off the battery, as those tend to corrode to bits over the years and cause funky electrical problems, as they will "sort of" work. Other than that, if the electrical is the same as the 84-85 models, no real problems. And if the engine is the same as the 81, then I think I've covered all I can. :)

Good luck with the purchase man! Hope the car looks as good as the one in the picture!

Dude sweet. No heat shouldn't be too bad of a fix. Just so long as the heater core is good. Although, after doing the heater core tonight in my 2gee, I'm pretty positive you could do the heater core without pulling the whole dash.

I'd guess though that he didn't bleed the coolant right. Nobody seems to know about the bleeder screw on the thermostat housing.

Just heard back from him...im going to go look at it tomorrow. Now its gone from "runs and drives" to "may need to be towed because its not running like it should in the cold weather."

I have a feeling this is going to go from bad to worse....

As soon as I saw the listing with the wrong picture I suspected that this car is going to be a dud. I could be wrong, so it's worth checking out. Good luck.

well, if that second ad is the actual car it doesnt look too bad...im wondering if the car has been sitting and the ethanol has gunked up the carb? When I was working at a motorcycle shop it seemed if anything sat for more than 3-4 weeks without treated fuel it would begin to clog up and run like garbage...but we shall see.

that sounds all too familiar haha. if it doesn't run right in cold, im betting its the carb. mine is the same way. I even replaced mine and it still acts up a lot.

Earlier tonight he was going to tow it back to his house, so im hoping to head up there tomorrow before the next storm hits...just waiting to hear back from him.

Oh, and hes lowered the asking price to 100...so ill most likely offer him something like 50 bucks, depending on whats actually wrong
