Hey guys,
I need to find a replacement fifth gear for my manual 89 accord. I have the engine and tranny out so this is the perfect time to do it. 1-4 gears work fine, 5th does not. I went to the auto store and they tell me they cant get it. any ody know where i can get it?

Does it work if you hold it in gear and then slips out when you let go?My friends car did the same thing and it turned out to be an ajustment or allignment he had screwed up when he pulled the the tranny out or the engine can't remember, but when he put it back together 5th wouldn't stay in unless he held it there fairly hard he thought it was a bad tranny at first then found out he had bent somthing or turned the wrong bolt and got the shifter outta wack.Just a thought!

I wish it would at least go into fifth, but no, i shift from fourth to fifth and it goes to neutral... thanks though.

You may have damaged the splines on the mainshaft. Shipping a junkyard transmission would probably be cheaper if this turns out to be the case. Otherwise you may be able to get by with new fifth gear set for ~$100+. The cause should be pretty clear once you get the fifth gear cover off.

You might try your local tranny shops. When I rebuilt my last tranny (it was an auto) I went around to local shops. I found one with big boxes full of parts. I dug around until I found what I liked and then bought them.
