Yes it can be done but unless you hate your hands and arms I'd say it's easier and probably less painfull to pull the engine out and swap it, if you don't you'll need an engine stand to hold it up in place as you'll have to remove the rear mount. You can allways remove everything and see how you get on, hardest part will be getting the box off and then getting the torque convertor off which is full of oil btw!!, then getting the new flywheel on and gearbox mounted.

i dunno, i've done it both ways... i like leaving the engine in cus then i dont have to disconnect anything from it haha... i used 2 floor jacks.

One floor jack for me.

I just let the slushbox fall onto the floor when I swapped. It did nearly kill me, however.

The manual transmission is easy to take in or out by hand. I support the engine with a jack and a piece of wood under the oil pan.

I just got the trans and everything out of my parts car today. I'll that is left in is the clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate.... I'm just wondering when u bolt the flywheel back on the other engine if there is any marks or anything to line it up by?

You'll see it. It's just a short little metal rod on the end of the crankshaft. There is a corresponding hole for it on the flywheel, so it can only go on one way.

If you haven't already, remember to get the flywheel bolts from a manual car. They are longer than the auto ones.

Yesterday got the flywheel clutch and pressure plate in and got the trans up in. The only problem I really had was I got it in then I couldn't get the back mount to line up on the trans but after messing with it for a bit I realized I had to swap the mount with the one from the 5 speed car. Its raining out today so I guess I won't be doing anything..... Hopefully tomorrow I can get the shifter and linkage in and the pedals.

I was just reading this in another post "There is a plug you disconnect when you remove the auto shifter which only lets the car start in either P or N so you have to jump these two wires. The plug has two wires and they are both black" I'm just wondering if they are the 2 larger wires that have the white stripe on them or are they the 2 small wires that are all black with no stripes.

Strugglebucket
03-20-2009, 11:32 AM
If I remember correctly, it's the two big wires.

Civic Accord Honda
03-20-2009, 11:58 AM
i vwould think the black wire with white stripe as that is the same wire that runs to the ignition and starter

Yesterday I got the shifter and linkage in the and hooked up, the old pedals out and the other ones in and got the throttle cable hooked up. Today i'm gonna hook up the clutch cable, change my gauges, hook up speedometer cable, figure out what wires i need to cut and jump, run my revesre light wires, and check every nut and bolt to make sure they r all tight then it should be good to go.

Didn't get it going today.... I had to change my dash cause my old one was broke at the bottom so i figured it was best to do it now while i had the steering post down. So i got that all changed and got the clutch cable hooked up but i got to adjust it or something cause its not workin right.

look at your selector and u will see what wire it is to get your key out, theres probably a light green wire at the top of the switch where it is when you used to put it in park, ground that to the black wire and u will be sweet.

with the reverse lights, simply join the yellow wire to the green/black reverse lights wire, the reverse lights should now be always on, under the hood go to the plug to the engine loom beside the battery and on the engine side of the harness pull the covering back and you will see a green/black wire that comes out of the plug and loops back in, thats the reverse lights wire for the auto loom since theres no switch on the gearbox it goes right back in, so you cut that look and wire those two wires to the reverse light switch on the manual box. well thats how it works for JDM accords its should be the same for yous.
