View Full Version : Pico's 88 Lx-I Daily Driver
My 92 Acura Legend finally took a dump, after 3yrs of faithful service, the car finally started to show signs of a blown head gasket.
I didnt have the $$ to repair the car, and I need another car to drive to work, a friend of mine said he would take the Acura off my hands. So to save my 89 from wear & tear I picked up this 88 LX-i for $500.00 from the original owner today. It has a broken timing belt, seats are a little faded but the body is straight, and only 98k on the odometer.
So here she is for your approval............

Thats the only thing I found wrong with the car so far. I have 2 sets in my storage so no problem there.

thanks guys, this one is cleaner than my 89 when I first got it.
The original owner also had the clutch done 8,000 miles ago, new shocks all around, speakers replaced and the A/C converted to 134.
I'm keeping this one stock with the exception of adding my Alpine deck and a sub to it.

I'd almost give you $1000 for itand fly out to drive it back. The thing that keeps me from doing that is that it's not an automatic, and my wife can't drive stick.

I got the T/Belt done Sunday night on the 88 and got the car running, no damage to the valves, car purrs like a kitten. The timing belt had a good chunk of the teeth sheered off and from the original owner told me it was never done 98k on the car and still the original belt.
Luckily no damage was done to the engine, Today I go to dmv for registration and get the car smogged.
Also I finally got to take a close look at the parts the original owner had installed and I'm happy with what I saw.
Axles are a few years old, tires are Yokohama's, Shocks are KYB, speakers are Pioneer, A/C converted to 134.

Ok...
Got home a little while ago. Got to DMV at 8am sharp and waited 1 1/2 hrs to get the car in my name, came back home and drove to the smog shop and waited a little more, back to DMV for another hour to get my tags.
Installed my Alpine from the Acura and my XM unit.

when I started to set the cam in the correct position before I installed the belt, the cam would get stuck when I got to a certain point and I thought for sure that the eng was f**ked, but luckily after a good turn it started to move. it did rattle a bit at the first startup but went away quickly, probably from sitting for 7 months
So far this car has been great, hasnt burn any oil and doesnt leak any oil.
I place a pan underneath at night to keep an eye on it and nothing (knock on wood)

Thats good to hear. About 5 yrs ago my t-belt snapped at 5,000rpm's. I slapped 3 valves so hard they wouldnt come out. After I<----:rocket: rebuilt the head she burnt oil bad. Like 1/2 qt. a day. had a shop redo the head and she has been fine.

Not yet CAH, I still have to replace the rear door and front fender. I may just leave it alone, since this is my daily driver.
.................................................. .................................................. ...
On with the pics and story on why the daily got the lowering treatment today.
Messy called me the other day to tell me he was going to be getting rid of his DX and if I would like to swap my stock suspension for the Eibach Sports and Tokico shocks that he had on the DX.
The rear of my car is lower in the pics because I had the trunk full of my tools and jack stands and hydraulic jack.
I'm keeping the stock rims and tires for now so that I wont attract any attention.
I'll get better pics up when I get a chance.

I love the way this setup rides. No bounce, a smooth ride. Unlike my 89 with the Goldline Springs which has very stiff ride.

Usually these cars are 1/2" to 1" lower on the drivers front. I don't know if that's the case here, cuz I can't see the difference with these pics.

The block is quite a lot heavier than the trans as it turns out. Mine dips there too now since I removed the slushbox. The MT is about 50# lighter than the auto. Weight reduction FTW!!

i bet this was missing the word "lug" before you edited it...
but yeah my car sits lower driver's side too. i'm thinking maybe its just the way the bushings have worn or something. sucks the car was wrecked but at least you get to repaint it now i guess

Yep... I couldn't think of what kind of nut it was... Damn brain farts.
I said goodbye today to the 88, so I have only one Accord now.
I have my friends El Camino that he keeps here with me and he's letting me use it whenever I want, so at least I have another car to drive when I need to
