these are pictures of my car nearly 20 years ago. I built it in 1990 when I lived in Mesa Arizona. its an 86 LXI white w/blue w/a 2.5"-3" drop, DP-5 wheels wrapped in 195/50/15s. Look closely folks It has the factory roof rack and louvers. Well to complicate things, Im building another one. This time a 88 hatch LXI, still white but a 5-speed and mauve interior. Maybe its just a midlife crisis who knows. What I do know is that Im having fun. Does anyone know where I can find a factory roof rack and some factory louvers? Sorry the pics are so big

Fellas--Thanks for the ups on my throw back...

Right on Ghetto! Gotta have it! Ill give em a call this morning. Im calling majestic too. I want to know if a rack is still available.

I found the ad for my wheels the other day. I had to dig it out. This is the very ad I saw for my wheels that made me go bonkers. I sold my '56 oval bug for $1250.00 so I could buy them--with tires the set cost 1500 bucks--that was a "hell of a lot a" money back then... Check it out

The first pic was taken in Dec of 1999 right before x-mas. I bought the car on my 20th birthday from Scottsdale Jaguar and Range Rover--it was a trade-in and I worked there--got a good deal. My x-mas present was the hook-up: wheels, tires, and stereo. I put an 18" Lanzar in a 7th order box in the hatch--it was a 600 cu. in. box--filled the whole thing up. Caps coils, crossover, highs and mids with a total of 600 Rockford Fosgate watts. Back then RF cost a sheer mint and wasnt found in Best Buy for a couple hundred bucks. Remember those days my fellow dudes?

The second pic was taken in Sept of 1990 the day I moved to Atlanta GA--Rock on

The second pic was taken in Sept of 1990 the day I moved to Atlanta GA--Rock onback in those days was driving an 81 hatch through atlanta with no back seat, just 10 old school 12 inch pioneers and pioneer amps, and batteries. WHOOMP THERE IT IS!!! no wait that was earlier then that, can't remember exactly. we were renting a house within walking distance of the Buckhead party district. had a full size slate pool table for a dining room table and neon signs and inflatable beer stuff. I was living with my ex wife and her sister and her sisters boyfriend, my ex knew michael stipe from REM, so he would go out back and get high with her sisters boyfriend, when he came through buckhead. this was back when it was the place to party, everyone came there. were you there when the huge ice storm shut everything down for three days? i was there then

Thanks Lost, I think those louvers might work!

I got to Atlanta in Sept 1990 and left in May of 1991 back to Arizona to be with a girl that didn’t give damn about me to begin with. I even went so far as to sell my hatch and buy a bike to try and win her affection but it didn’t work. You ever see that Tom and Jerry cartoon where no matter what Tom did to win the girl, some punk ass cat would out do him-- easily--bigger diamond ring, bigger car you get the idea. I fell victim to the same crap. So here I am back in GA many years later reminiscing about the old days and even trying to re-live them a bit by building a new friend.

Lost, you’re right, Buckhead used to be the place of places in Atlanta to hang out. It was the Coconut Grove of Georgia. Now its just like anywhere else--you have to duck for cover anytime you hear a loud noise. I think I missed the ice storm but believe you me Ive heard all about it.

These new pics are of:
my old school alpine-the first deck I bought.
my old school sister sitting on my ride after I got to Hotlanta and… don’t trip fellas but my hot pink and paint splattered brake drums. Ask around, neon blue and hot pink was the ticket back in the late 80’s early 90’s LOL Im amazed every time I flash back and look at the bull we were into back then.

yes i know i had subwoofers with the neon pink paint splatter , it was cool then in the day. I had an alpine deck just like that, dam good deck too. did yours have the tiny amp unit that went under the dash?

King Peetis
02-14-2009, 10:37 PM
yeah, I loved that deck too. No, I didnt have an amp under the dash but it sounds familiar. Just to keep it real Im going to put an alpine in the one Im building now. But trust me it will be a little bit of an ungrade from the tape player I used to have...

Yeah man, Jim Jones was OG at 13.
Dude I love your Alpine tape deck. My dad has an old Pioneer one from his 85 Civic he got brand new in... well, 85, probably. How hard was it to find Japanese performance stuff back then? Was stuff (relatively) way more expensive or hard to come by?

King Peetis

Aftermarket was huge in the late 80's and early 90's. I was part of the first generation to experience true, good quality, high performance aftermarket parts for Asian whips. Jackson Racing and Stillen Racing (Steve Millen) made a lot of suspension components and other stuff for Japanese cars 20 years ago. The truly sick rides back in the day had the boomin' system, at minimum dual 15's, 15" inch wheels (Momo, BBS, DP Motorsport, Enkei) w/190/50/15s, a 2” drop (mine was more like a 3 inches) and limo tinted windows on the back half of the car with 20% on the front. 50’s were truly your first gen “low profile” tire and anybody who was somebody had em on their ride. Pretty much Fulda tires were the ones most people could afford and became standard equipment on all low riders. Aftermarket was considered at one time to be "Not OEM" or cheap replacement for whatever broke on your ride when you didnt want to come out of pocket for the genuine OEM s**t. Aftermarket performance parts (not Pep boys crap) were at a premium back then; if you wanted it you had to pay dearly for it. I remember when Orion and Fosgate amps were top of the line, there was no other better. Not to mention both stereo equipment companies were designed, created and started by the same dude, Jim Fosgate who happens to be the pioneer of aftermarket car audio. He started his company in his garage in Arizona. Guess that explains why so many streets in Tempe are named Orion Blvd or Fosgate Ct. etc…Check out the link for Fosgate history.

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/history/

Engine and exhaust performance hadn’t caught on yet but was huge with the hot rod set. Slowly companies started catching on that just because the audience for inexpensive asian cars was high among young adults didn’t mean they were without funds…Ya dig?

I think the mid 90's was the Golden Age of car audio.
