so i got my ball joints in today for the Prelude control arms i picked up from Jalopy pick'n'pull, stoked about that. tomorrow i'll be installing them and taking pictures of the install for all who're ready. i will also be continuing my section about the vacuum box removal for the EFI motors in the, "EFI Tech" section with the installation of my newly acquired, "L" brackets i'm going to use to mount the ignition sensor to the firewall, as well as the MAP sensor. updates soon to come for those who'll be interested.

If you can when its all setup find out what your caster is. I can't get anyone to give me a straight answer on that.

so, my front left caster is: 0.5*+, and my front right is 0.9*+...the initial caster before my alignment was: 0.1*+ (front left), and -2.1* (front right)

oh yeah, the minimum caster in the front is: -0.5*, and the max is: +1.5*

why do you need to know what the caster is anyways??

Just a quick nub question. Why do we use the lude control arms? I mean what's the difference as opposed to just using control arms for the accord?

:dunno:

I think he wants to know how much the 'lude arms change the caster from stock. But, in order to know that you would have to know what your alignment was with the stock arms.

prelude arms are adjustable, unlike the accord arms

Just by looking at how they are mounted using pictures from the internet it looked to me like the caster may have been off. Thank you for the info I am away during the week for work so I cant post as often as I like.

well the guy who did my alignment told me that as long as the toe's good you really don't have to worry about the camber/caster being slightly off. and it makes sense that the toe kind of determines if the car'll pull to either the right or left so many feet per mile, and if it's something serious than obviously that'll not do good on your tires, :dunno:

Yeah toe is the most important. But i like to run about -2 camber and about 2+ on the caster settings if I can get it.

From the pictures of the Prelude arms it looked to me like the Caster might have fallen into the negative side is why I was asking.

Now you have Camber adjustment on the front you can experiment around with more Camber and see how you like it.

Add these to the rear and you'll be all set.

my rear wheels don't camber at all with the VW wheels, they're actually near straight. but it might be something i do in the future, just to say i have adjustable rear control arms. but i wasn't able to locate them on the website given from the link above...i'm on a retarded trip lately

I have the 2g prelude arms and I've had it aligned with as much as 2.5deg positive caster, with both sides even.

I have to agree with you on the -2deg camber in front. It's amazing how much more power you can put down accelerating out of a corner.

I think I have about 2.5 degrees positive caster as well with my lude arms. My camber is set to -1 deg or something like that. I'd have to check to be sure.

why would you want your caster in the positive 2.5* :dunno::dunno:

It's sort of like getting added negative camber that's only there when you turn the steering. And in increasing amounts as you increase the steering angle.

The best explanation I've heard is to think of a bike and why the fork is tilted the way it is. The wheel is vertical when you're going straight and angles in when you turn.

ah...well i guess i'm at a loss with my overall camber of .5* positive,:cool::cool:

The nice thing about having the caster nearer to 0 is that the steering has much less resistance. I'm really liking the combination of 1.5 caster and -2 camber right now.

i think my camber's somewhere around -2.0*...i'd have to pull the alignment report out again, but i'm pretty sure it's somewhere around there.

b20a86lude I pm'd you.

I went to get my alignment saturday because its pulling to the left really bad. They said my caster was pretty bad. Almost like something was bent but they couldn't find anything. Has anyone had a similar problem? Would the lude cotrol arms possibly fix this? They tried to adjust the toe so it wouldn't eat up my tires. Good thing I have lifetime alignment!
