does anyone know how far the lowest crank throw is below the edge of the oil pan? in other words whats the closest point between anything rotating and the area at the bottom of the shallow part of the oil pan? need to trim this oil pan baffle and need this info. someone has got to have an engine apart somewhere on here .

this is a different kind of baffle but it's in the same place, i need to know how high can the lowest point be without creating clearance issues. http://www.crank-scrapers.com/baffle_in_pan.jpg

It's not the crank you should be worrying about, it's the windage plate. Or are you removing that?

those trap door baffles are way better than plain fixed baffles
they let the oil rush towards the pick up but wont let it rush away

Definately supposed to have a windage plate. It bolts to the main bearing caps.

Just went through this over on PP. All FI engines had windage trays but not all carbed models did. You should be able to score one at a junkyard for cheap.

The A20A1 didn't have a windage plate. I am pretty sure it was just the A3. My A20A1 didn't have one. This was just discussed over at Prelude Power. The later A1s might have had it though.

EDIT: ^^^ Yeah what he said. Beat me to it haha!

they let the oil rush towards the pick up but wont let it rush awayright but they are better for competition then street use and sometimes they have been know to stay closed,or if they have rubber doors, pieces of the rubber can come apart over time.

My A20A1 doesn't have anything on the crank. Its just the crank and rods, nothing else.

A1's are just not cool enough.:crying:well you can just swap one from the FI engines no big deal, according to my engine charts the bs actually made one extra horsepower over the a20a1 later. there are some slight differences. have to hunt those charts down.

right but they are better for competition then street use and sometimes they have been know to stay closed,or if they have rubber doors, pieces of the rubber can come apart over time.

thats why you leave a gap under the trap door.
not heaps but bout 1/4 inch.
still lets oil run in and out under it
