Well it was more trouble than I thought, but wasn't that bad. I cut off 2.25" the first time, wasn't enough, took off 3/4" and still wasn't enough, then I took off another inch and it was perfect. So I ended up taking off 4" all together. Here's a pic of all the old junk :)

The intake that I bought online had blue everything, but I ended up with a red filter and yellow other stuff. I don't like the yellow but the red filter is cool cause I have red pedals and gonna paint the valve cover red some day. :)

lol, yeah I know, it's very dirty. I live in a small town out in the middle of nowhere with lots of dirt roads. I'll probably clean the engine bay tomorrow. :)

:help: hey bro, what did you do with the two hoses that were hooked to the stock airbox, and the 2 that were hooked just under the stock intake?????

Kicker has an 88. The 88-89 are different than the 86-87. The 86-87 have two vacuum hoses that you need to drill into the intake piping. The 88-89 have none. :)

I picked my gurl up from work and rolled the windows down and just let the baby roar on the way out of the parking lot and saw this great BIG grin on her face, it was wonderful. :)

ok, i talked to my dad and i told him what u guys said about just drilling the holes into the new intake, he said it sounded a lil sketchy, so... if one of you guys dont mind, make me a step by step set of instructions, minus removing the stock air box. if you could, i'd be very gratefull, thanx guys

hey oldricer, here is a very brief version of what you will need to do (i have an 86 lxi also, so we had the same hoses :))

1) take off ALL the stock intake stuff (but keep the tiny box that was screwed into the airbox, that the two hoses go to.)

2) if you have a short civic intake, like in the pic, line it up, put the filter on, and see how many inches you will have to cut off. ( i had to cut off about 5" from the filter end of the tube)

3) it can be cut with a hacksaw, so make sure you clean up the edges with a file, and get any metal shavings out of the pipe.

4)drill appropriate holes for the two hoses that go into the intake tubing (from the vaccum box in the upper left corner of the engine bay) i dont remember the size, but use files to clean out the holes, and then use grommets to squeeze the hoses into.

5) either plug the existing hole on the intake tube that points towards your valve cover, and put a breather filter on your valve cover OR use a peice of hose, and connect the hose from the intake tube, to the fitting on your valve cover.

6) buy a 9mm breather filter, and put in on the tiny box thats dangling around, with the two hoses still in it. (this is on the right side of the engine bay (but you would know this if you had already taken it off :)) the reason that I did this, is simply becuase all that box did was channel filtered air, so the breather filter gets the same job done!

7) attach the filter to the intake tube and fasten it on with the hose clamps. (making sure the tube is free of any metal shavings)

8) attach the whole thing to the throttle body, and fasten in on there.

9) start up your car, and go rev it from the engine bay, then clean up your pants, cause it sounds so fricken cool.

i still shut off my radio, and open my door, so i can hear the sound it makes when i shut off my car! lol...

hey guys one question ..

wouldnt you make the intake go into your bumper ? cause if you leave it like that the worm air from the engine still gets into your air and doesn't that effect the preformance?

yeah but thats called a COLD air intake, and its a little harder to pull off, although i think integra CAI kits can ft our cars. :)

but youre right, after a while, the engine bay heats up, and you are drawing warm air. i am thinking about making a duct from the bumper, thru the existing hole, and have the duct end right in front of my filter, so if nothing else, air that is cooler will be available. i am also thinking of making a heat sheild to keep some of the engine bay heat away.

the reason i am hesitant to use a CAI in my car is because of the insane ammounts of rain we get where i live! its not worth the worry, even with a bypass filter! :)

The reason why I didn't do is because I would have had to move the battery and my g/f didn't want me doing that to her car. I think I might do it someday though, she never looks under there anyway. :D

yeah that is true, but also you have to figure in that the short ram actually flows better cause of the shorter pipe and less bends... of, course my pipe is only about 9 inches long...

the way he has his short ram sittin up above the tranny right next to the engine is not a very good idea... there is alot of heat right there... I just pointed mine right down behind the tranny where there will be some cool air flowing.

I've had a cold air intake and then I made the short ram... there was a noticeable increase in performance between the cai and the short ram... I would definitely suggest the short ram, just don't put it where they did, unless you plan on putting on a hood scoop and routing fresh air to your filter

So to stick an Intake on an 88-89 Accord, you need not worry about those vacuum hoses then? I'm still trying to follow it all while installing my new short ram.

actually... when doing mine, I noticed that the engine had a more steady idle with the smaller of the two vacuum hoses connected, but the larger one doesn't seem to do anything... so, at least connect the smaller hose to the new intake

hey what about if you have a carb.? can you still put a custom intake on at all? or if i did a webber carb conversion, could i make a custom intake for that?

hmm.. with those two hoses i bent them and used a hose clamp to have them stop doing what ever they did. I didn't notice anything. My EGR comes on now and then but it's always been on even before my short ram setup. Is it necessary for us to use those two hoses? would i feel a noticable increase of anything.???

i finally went outside and took a look at my stock intake.. all i have on right now is a blitz filter fonnected to the stock plastic pipes, i dont see any reason why i havent gotten a cai yet :( what year teg casi will fit our cars? and is it a 2.5? because i want to make one like aem 2.5 pipes routed into the bumer.
