Use progressively higher grit sand paper, and then buff with a polishing compound once you reach about 1800 grit or so. Start with like 400 and work your way up in increments of 100 to 200.

Polishing... Yea, I've done some. ;)

Depends on how rough the surface is,

Sanding:
100, 150, 220, 400

Polishing:
Emory, White.

Make sure that you clean between steps. If you don't have a bench grinder buy one it WILL save you a LOT of time, they are fairly cheap (about $50), i did a few pieces with a cheap-o before i got my bigger buffer. Use different wheels with each polishing compound.

damn Ken, you my friend, are a polishing FIEND!

...so you made yourself a chrome-plated looking engine bay on your 'lude. Should I expect to see some bling under the hood of your 3G too?

Rendon --> As Ken and Cody pointed out, although it's not very expensive to do it yourself, it's very time-consuming. If you don't have a bench grinder, or dedicated buffer, I've also used a drill press with the buffing wheel, and it worked out just fine too. In fact, I liked the drill press quite a bit because I was able to use a long arbor so I could get into the tiny spots of what I was polishing, and I could manipulate the speed so I didn't leave burn marks or tear up my buffing pad/disc.

A little trick I accidentally happened across last fall, which actually worked out VERY well, was using the EagleOne Nevr-Dull Wadding Polish (here (http://www.eagleone.com/pages/products/product.asp?itemid=1006&cat=5006) once I was down to bare aluminum. You can just use aircraft paint stripper on the cover to get the paint off and get it down to bare ally. Once you do that, just go to town on it with this wadding, and it'll start to get itself a mirror shine in no time. I was actually kinda pissed because I tried it on bare ally tubing just to see what would happen, and I thought it was just turning is a dull disgusting mess, but it ended up giving it a damn near mirror finish.

Thanks. The $ that i make from Polishing goes towards more car projects.

Its VERY unlikely that i will polish anything on the Accord. I CURRENTLY have waiting to Polish.

3 valve covers
1 Intake manifold
Supercharger Shaft
Random Pipe
water neck for a 3000gt turbo
Fuel rail
At least 1 set of rims that are likely to come my way...

And between my reg job, maintaning a house, Preping for a baby in May. And the locost, there is little to no time to just maintain 3 cars! Oh and that sleep thing... ;)

i've always wanted to do a green valve cover, with green vacuum lines, and green wire loom since i'm already being rice painting my valve cover. i mean, if you're going to stick your head in the pool you mind as well jump in too. but i haven't had the time to acquire these pieces, or completely polish off my head for repainting. but *shrugs*

i wouldn't mind a blue anodized cam pulley...that'd be pretty neat. i always liked those lightened pulleys they sold from Unorthodox Racing. but i doubt that fabricate anything for these old 3geez
