I believe it is written somewhere in the Good Book:dunno: that "patience is a virtue". I have been looking for these old school DP Motorsport wheels for 2 years. I had almost given up hope of ever finding them. Why? 1)They didnt sell very many in this country, 2) they were ungodly expensive back then 3) I couldnt find anyone who had ever heard of them and 4) There isnt even a picture of one on the internet. Today I was checking out a VW GTI a guy named Boomer was parting out and I asked if he had anything else for sale and he said "I got an old set of DP wheels I sell you for $50.00. I'll show you'em, there in the back on the deck". My heart started racing as we walked trying not to get excited. He never said the model of the wheel or the bolt pattern so I didnt want to get ahead of myself. When we went on the deck and turned the corner I nearly choked on my spit. I'll be damned if they werent DP-fuckin 5's (excuse my French) Dudes, it took every ounce of control to maintain my cool cuz my cool means everything:cool: To top it off they were 4x100. WINNER--ME The bad thing is one of them is cracked in 2 places and one is bent. I think if I find the right shop a fix should be rather easy and then powder coat. Am I foolish to think this way? Are repaired wheels ever right again or will I always have issues with them?

A good wheel is worth repairing. There's a place in Miami that does good work, EricW has used them for some Enkie 92 wheels, IIRC. They looked pretty clean when they returned.

get a pic of the crack! shouldn't be to bad just dont expect it to be to cheap lol
but then again for the price of the rims and the rarity of them money should not matter

They are in the shop right now. Metro Wheels. After they get fixed I will have them powder coated white--as they were originally. In the mean while here is a pic of my car under construction.

is it your intention to make this new one identical to your original one? ...or are you going to throw a little of your new flavor to it?

Congratufuckinlations on those wheels too! If I could ever find my centerline 17" 21 spokes again (my car was stolen the night I installed them. FAIL) I would jump on them in a heartbeat (even though they are no longer my style, it's the principle.)

Those wheels should not be too bad to repair, but from personal experience, I can't help but think that they would be more prone to cracking, or just the fact that they did already crack could be indication that the casting or material used could be more brittle than others. I have a set of 17" Kaizer K2's, of which one was cracked and repaired before I bought them, and shortly after an 80~something mile trip, I returned to the car after it had been parked, only to find a pancake tire due to a crack in the same wheel that had already been repaired once. Either way, very well worth the chance to get the damn things back.

Congrats Man, I was a bit disappointed when I sow your thread in search of them, as I know how hard is to find stuff when they are lost. Anyway, a good shop will repear them and youll be cool and rolling like new.. Props to you my man!!

Thanks for the props fellas. It hurts deep when you cant find something you really want especially if its a memory item, but now--I feel like Dr. Mahattan after finding them :bowrofl:

I will post pics of them when they are all done. Metro Wheels wants $159.00 each to redo. I said no sweat! They will be ready by the end of next week

Mark, I will spend some time looking for your centerlines--if nothing else than to be a busy body. what was the name of the wheel-- Centerline ?_______? You also mentioned adding a little of my own twist when I recondition my wheels, did you have anything in mind?

I know I keep saying it but louvers are next:D

not regarding the wheels in particular, but more-so just the entire build in general. The only thing I might consider with those wheels (given that you're doing a white wash on the outside [ie. all B&W], there's not much to do without ruining the clean look) would maybe be black on the inner part of the lip and inside of the wheels to sort of make the 5 mags and 'rim' look like they're floating. ...although I have never seen that done, and wouldn't have a clue what it would actually look like.

I really meant more like custom interior? Xenon front kit? custom clear corners? custom clear bumper lenses? I too have made a great effort in making the outside of mine completely B&W (black & white) or S&P (salt & pepper), whatever you want to call it, and it's a royal pain in the balls, but well worth every second I spent on it.

...really anything that's kinda like not only calling it a 'rebirth of the original' but more like an original hatchie v.2.0 "new AND improved".

As for the centerline's you're guess is as good as mine. If you feel like spinning your wheels (pun intended) trying to find a long-lost wheel, try and find me another 17" Kaizer K2. I don't care what color it is, or what bolt pattern because I can always it repainted and redrilled, but I don't want to deal with repairing a wheel that's already been repaired once already. ...but they're just too damn pretty to give up on.

My bad, I get it now. No, I dont intend on making anything too custom. I will redo the vinyl on the door panels and the rear side panels and I may do a funky patterned-print headliner. The only thing I might go crazy with is the stereo--that definitely will be 2.0.

Mod stuff is hard to come by for our cars but I may as it presents itself. Im not going to go looking for it like I did the wheels--that was exhausting

That is great to find what you were looking for, you must of had your head really set on them thus falling right into your hands :D oh yea, I dig the rebuild of the old but please.. please no splatter.

i think some oem fogs, and jdm corners lights(preface 85-87 ones look best on hatchs imo) would look sexy on the car if u want to add some new things

There is definitely room for change on this one. I wont go completely "original"---the splatter is out and so is the hot pink. No hot pink trimmed sunroof with white glass and no hot pink shock boots around the headrest posts, no Alpine tape deck and no 18" Lanzar subs. No GFX and no major engine mods. I will bolt on a CAI and a free flow cat (I know its illegal) but the engines gotta breathe. I also have the hook up on a intercooled turbo charger. I would love to do little things like the JDM corners and the fog lights that CivicAccordHonda suggested---thats a mos def...Where is or who's got the hook up??? Holla back!!

Metro wheels sucks ass!!!!! 3 weeks and 4 tries later they finally got it right. I do not recommend them unless you have patience and lots of $$$. Thier little outfit is rinky dink and 3rd rate. I had to tell them where to look for sunshine a couple of times. The finished product looks good though... Check it out
