I've got about 225K on mine. While I can't say for sure what all has been done in the past, I think the engine and trans are original. The radiator may have been replaced. I just replaced the suspension ball joints, bushings, and shocks, steering rack (still worked but leaked a lot), and axles. I have also replaced the injectors. Besides that, all I've done is small stuff and maintenance.

My '88 LXI hatch has 325,212 showing. The odometer stopped working 5 years ago. The guy I bought it off of drove the car 70 miles a day, 5 days a week to and from work. So it probably has a little over 400,000 on it at this point.

My 85 Accord that I sold a couple of months ago had 387,000 on it, I was the second owner. Still ran and drove great. I sold it to my cousin, she is away at college and it is her only vehicle. It will hit 400,000 by the end of the year.

89 lxi coupe 5-speed: 216,800 miles

It had around 211k when I bought it about 10 months ago.

Had a torn CV boot, so I just replaced the whole driver's side half-axle for about $70.

Put new front brake pads and rotors. Before that, the steering wheel would shake violently if you hit the brakes over 25mph.

Replaced valve cover gasket. oil was slightly oozing onto the exhaust manifold beforehand. Had a [not so] nice burning smell.

Now I just have have to find what's causing a slight misfire at idle, and i'll be happy.

~280k. i think the powertrain is original, carfax doesn't show any records of engine or tranny work and i bought it from a "dealer" who got it at auction. but since i've owned it, i've replaced alternator, spark plugs and wires, brake master cylinder, and put in stainless steel brake lines (the lines really were in sad shape though). i'm gonna assume the clutch has been changed at least once or twice as well. i also had to change out the speakers because they were all busted, and put in a '97 accord cd player.

Almost 133k miles on my 86 Accord LX-i sedan, auto (aarrrgghhh!!!)
It had 126k when got it one year ago for $300 pissing oil from every shaft (that is why I got it cheap, the owner (a friend) was about to junk it.

Overall, the car was sound but in dire need of maintenance and replacement of worn parts.

I do not drive it as much as I'd like; the f.... transmission has an idle vibration every time it is in gear that drives me nuts (it disappears when engine runs above 1k though).

I still have some way to go to make it run how I'd like to.

Mine has 361K miles. Runs great. Original engine with only the head gasket replaced at 250K. It's had 4 timing belts, 3 water pumps, and on its second clutch. The 5 spd trans was rebuilt at 280K due to 5th gear noise.

I started using Royal Purple oil at 200K and had to replace all the seals due to leaks. That stuff really cleans your engine out. I change oil every 12K miles and use mobil 1 filters. I have access to oil analyzing equipment and this tells me when the oil viscosity and particle count is getting to the point it needs to be changed. I also have a pre-oiling system using an oil accumulator and solenoid valve that I use to build oil pressure to 40 psig before starting the car.

It still gets 34 mpg. I've removed the power steering and converted it to manual, removed the air conditioner, installed a MSD 6A ignition and coil, removed all vacuum lines, installed manual choke, and manual secondary on the carb. The EGR has been removed and the ports on the stock intake have been machined off so it looks like an after market intake.

I don't hotrod it as it is my work car. My next project is doing away with the distributor and building a crank fire ignition from EDIS components and Megajolt Lite Jr to control it and spark advance settings.

Update: my car now has 482k miles and is still going strong. I got rid of the distributor 5 years ago and installed the Megajolt Lite Jr and it works awesome.

Update: my car now has over 500k miles and is still going strong.

I bought my 1988 Hatchie LXi from the original owner who is a really good friend of mine. I bought it in March, 2008 with 175k miles on it. Now it is over 176k, and I do drive it a lot, but I have 3 other cars, 2 of which are daily drivers and 1 show car Chevelle hot rod.

I replaced the fuel injectors about a year ago. Something is still spewing off smoke smell under the hood. Had the rack-and-pinion steering replaced a few weeks ago. Looks like that is the 2nd rebuilt steering part for that car. My friend that replaced the R&P told me the part he took out was re-manufactured. What gives with the steering? Should last longer than this! I know my buddy was easy on this car too. No race mods. All stock with 2.0 liter and 5-spd manual. This was a family car for him for 2 decades!

140,8xx miles as of today. Third owner; first one sold it at 60K, friend of mine sold it at 128K when he was about to trash it.

What things I did replace?... let's see.
EGR valve, A/C boost solenoid, brake power booster, master brake cylinder, radiator, ALL cooling hoses, fan switches, temp sender and switch, all struts, tie rod ends, ALL crank/cam seals, oil pump seals, driver window mechanism, transmission (worked but vibrated @ idle), engine mounts, front brake calipers (rebuilt) new pads and rotors, all belts, alternator, P/S pump rebuilt, P/S pressure hose, in the process of replacing P/S return hoses. CD/ player and speakers from other car, distributor rebuilt w/new bearing ... anyway, what I recall, and leave aside "maintenance items" such as spark plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor, O2 sensor.

It was done slowly with several things done in the first year - oil leaks were bad, suspension totally shot, would not pass emissions because of EGR valve, had no power brake assistance, driver window would not go down. Many smaller improvements were done after that, and it slowly became a dependable car.

165k on a mostly stock 89 LX.

Had to replace the air vent cut off diaphragm(replaced entire thermo valve too)

And had to customize a vacuum advance to fit onto the dizzy.

That's all i've done to it since i've had it for 3 weeks now, but I need to time the ignition and tune the carb. It runs like shit for some reason.

Seems like it misses @ 1-3k, then it stops acting up.

It will idle at 1k-4k and sometimes randomly die when you are stopping at a stop sign.

174,810 miles, which really is low miles, on an average annual basis, for an 88. About 90K was on the car when my son bought it back in 1997, as I recall. I became the owner in 1999. So, in approx. the last 15 years, only about 85K have been added, an average of only about 5.7K miles per year.

I have a 91 Accord which is the car I've driven most of the time I've also owned this 88 LX-i. The 91 Accord has approx. 297, 900 miles on it.

Please explain why you would do a "b-series swap"? My 88 LXi needs head gasket work now.

Why not bring this thread back? 277k miles. Runs great. Edit: new head gasket, valves, timing belt, distributor, water pump, master cylinder, fuel pump, engine mounts, ball joints (front uppers and lowers), tie rods, carburetor (remanufactured), cam seal, crank seal, oil pump seal, oil pan seal (while doing those seals we found the fairly new timing belt to be saturated with the oil and the fairly new water pump to be leaking so both were replaced again), passenger side cv axle and seal, radiator fans (junk yard), seal kit for power steering pump, steering rack, paint job. All of this done within the last 10k miles. The previous owner replaced the distributor whilst trying to track down a no-start issue. 'Twas the fuel pump actually. While he was doing the head gasket, he did the valves and timing belt/water pump.

Before I bought this car last year, it sat for a year or longer which is (I suspect) why most of the leaks developed. These cars, driven daily will run and run. Next time I see the 89 accord near me with over a million miles on it, I'll snap a picture. It's one of 10 purchased by a local company back in 89. They're still on the road daily being operated by employees of that same company. Apparently many of the employees have been driving them since new. Last time I was at the Honda dealer, the one with a million miles was there for a valve job. Replaced valves and was back on the road. Mine is driven 80 miles a day and 30+mpg. I need to do struts all the way around soon but I really love this old car.

Bummer. Like has been said here the Honda MTF really is the best over motor oil. One time I filled mine while it was on ramps. Mistake. The oil was a bit low because of that and it got hard to put into fifth. I fixed it after a bit of driving. Good thing I did not just keep driving it that way. Just a bit low and there it goes. 330,000+ still runs good.

So now, about 15 years later, fifth is GONE.I once took my 88 Accord LX-i to a shop that put gear oil in the manual transmission. I suspect it might have caused the passenger side cv axle seal to leak; I replaced the gear oil with motor oil, as recommended in the user manual, and had the seal replaced. Fortunately, no other transmission issues.

My car has about 186K miles on it, not much for an '88. The reason for the low miles is that I generally did not use it as my daily driver. However, during the last year or so, I have been driving it most of the time and miles are adding up faster. I also have a '91 Accord with 306K miles.
