you can remove all of it and put a wine cork in the steel tube end or just use some hi temp red silcone rtv and pinch it together at the end.
I took one of the flare nuts off that tube and welded a washer and short nut on the end then used it to plug off the hole in the exhaust manifold.

I am installing a dc header on my car and since it only has one hole for the egr I want to remove the air suction valve completely. Thanks for the info ROODOO2:cheers:

When the air suction valve is working properly does it sort of make a deep buzzing noise at idle intermittently? I failed emissions at idle (CO was double the limit). I don't think I have any vacuum leaks and it just dawned on my I haven't heard that weird deep buzzing noise lately so I'm hoping maybe that is bad and causing my emission problem. Make sense? Thanks!

Just wanted to follow up on my problem. I put constant vacuum on the AS valve and it passed emissions. Hopefully this won't cause other problems down the road....
