Let me start by saying hello again everybody...and secondly I have tried to search the forume and cant seem to find any info on changing the spare tire on my 2g hatchback.....looks like it may be gone soon and I dont want to be with out it I drive it over 900 miles a week....
I am tempted on using a motorcycle tire, I have so many and some have a higher load capacity then the spare :)
But really whats a guy to do

I would say if your spare isn't cracked or miscolored, it's probably okay to get you to a local tire place in the event of a breakdown. But yeah, you can use just about any spare that will fit. Its a 4x100 bolt pattern so anything from the 80-2004 Civic or the new Fit or just about any Integra or 78-87 Prelude will work. Lots of options. I just used the 28 year old spare in the back of my 81 Accord for the first time. :)

i took mine out and replaced it with a full size tire...its more safe than a tire that is thin...only thing is that it takes up more room

Yeah, a proper sized tire fits in the back of my 82 hatch no problem. I usually hurl compact spares into a bushy treed area at my buddies house.

Thanks guys for the input, soon I will try to install my full size tire in the trunk and see if it is too high to use with the false floor....Makes you wonder why they even bothered to use a mini spare when its almost the same size of the original...Thanks guys again

For weight reduction? Therefore leading to small increase in gas mileage maybe?

your local "pull-a-part" junkyard has them lying around everywhere. For 15 bucks you can have a replacement that has never been used...Thats what I did.

because a full size tire cost more to make.
