I'll be trying home zinc plating soon.

I followed the instructions here: http://members.tripod.com/cb750K2/Technical/plating.html

I plan to plate most of the bracket and bolts during my hatch restore project.

I was wondering if anyone tried this yet?

So far, finding the chemicals at a decent prices is a pain. I thought about buying a kit from Eastwood or Caswell but they seem a bit pricey for what they offer. Shipping and custom fees are a killer anyway.

I was trying to find something for some DIY part plating for doing small parts like that. I didn't think to look up Zinc plating. Or maybe I did and it seemed expensive, so I disregarded it. The other plating I found you could do at home was nickel plating, but that seems to me that you can only nickel plate copper. I'd be interested to see what other people have to say.

I've done nickel plated copper. I had some scrap nickel that I dissolved myself. Electroplating is awesome, and is a lot cheaper if you do it yourself, and then do it for friends :D

Try http://www.caswellplating.com/ they have some good manuals and all you'll ever need, and a forum there too as well. I was thinking the same thing to do to mine.. some time later on.

Looks kinda cool... zinc plating seems to work really well against corrosion. But carot, be careful trying to buy from the US if you do, I know at work some of our suppliers from the US have trouble getting some of our chemicals accross the boarder to us.

Well, I still have trouble locating the chemicals at a decent price. In fact, it's more a quantity problem. I don't need 100 pounds of the stuff haha.

If all else fails, I might try the Caswell kit
