Well after having one of my silverstars burn out, then having one of my hellas start leaking...i put the stock shitty halogens back in....and I need more light. Im probably gonna pick up some HIDS on Monday to go in my Hella Ecodes. Question is what color do yall think i should go with? I was gonna go with Golden Yellow which is 3000k at first but now im thinking 4300-6000k.
What do yall think?

I think you should go with the kind that retrofits true HID projectors into the H4 housings. Unless your already have that done of course.

Instead of blinding every driver that comes your way.

6,000 comes in alot of factory cars. i ran 8,000 for the longest time...was to much blue so i went to 6,000 HOLLY SHIT man it was crisp and i have the autopal housing...clean cutoff and was pretty easy to setup.......if you need more info i snap some pics of the setup and the cutoff.....i have phillaps 6,000's i wouldnt go higher or lower...thats prefect...i had 10,000 also that was a mistake...

i was unaware..that is good to know though

i have the hella H4 housings do you have a link to a place where i can see the ecodes?

Heres a few of my pics of the ecodes, they have a sharp cutoff when used with HIDS, so when angled properly theyre pretty good.

You can see the cutoff line in the image below:

so far i have boughten 7 sets of H.I.D.'s from the same seller. great product. 3 of them were the ultra slim digital setup for the smaller hidden applications. i run the 6000k in my coupe and 8000k on my bike. i would honestly recomend 4500k-6000k. 3000k is fricken awesome in my fogs because they burn yellow and my len's are yellow. i tried 5000k but the super bright white through the yellow lense was too much. also, i get them on ebay from the same seller. the slim version is $102.** shipped to your door. the regular version is around $60 ish to your door.

4300k FTW! assuming you want the best light output and not the coolest looking headlights. :)

6000k also looks great, but you are giving up lumens for anything with a higher temperature than 4300k.

Ok, let me be honest with all of you guys, HIDs in standard DOT reflectors suck! The cutoff pattern on standard reflectors isn't made for HIDs and will blind every other driver. The Only way to do it perfectly is to retrofit projectors that were specifically made for the HID lamp focal point.

Also anything above 6000K is plain stupidity. The BEST thing you can get as far as light output is 4300k. The higher you go, the bluer it gets and the less light output you get. Not only will you blind others but you won't see shit.

Some people will say they aim the lights lower not to blind people but what's the point of having brighter headlights if you only point them 15 feet away..

However, E-code lights have a way better cutoff that the DOT standard. The E-code will that a sharp cutoff with a flare on the right side (or left side, depending of where you live). If you plan to use an H4 HID kit, at least do what mushroom toy did and use E-Code lamps.

Where did you guys get your e-code housings from? I need to order myself a set as I've got some HID's coming for cheap, and I need the housings.

I am personally going 4300k hi/lo ... But 5k should be really good too. i have had friends with 8k and 10k and they were absolutely useless. My vision sucks enough at night as is, I need to help it not make it worse.

Maybe it's the exposure time that's too long.

The cutoff is there, Ill have to take better pics. What I did notice however was that my ecodes front reflector is very dull and not shiny anymore so i need to coat it with something.

And your cutoff does seem to be lacking. Glary HIDs are awful for everyone else.

I have hella e-codes in my 240 with just hte Hella optilux bulbs and the cutoff is very nice (but overwhelmed by HIDs, clearly).

Cibie h4 housings are supposed to be the best, but they're much more expensive than hella or bosch.

It's been a while since I've been here, but it looks like business as usual...just enough knowledge to get into trouble.

I went through the HID retro on my 240 a while back, and I'll never be happy with sealed beams again...or even H4 conversion housings!

That being said, I know there's a right way to do conversions and many wrong ways. The right way is to get an actual HID projector, 35w(!) 4300k bulbs, ignitors, ballasts, and if you need to, some TOTALLY CLEAR (high quality) GLASS conversion housings. Anything other than completely clear (fresneled, ribbed, etc) lenses will scatter your beam all over. Even better if you can put it in a stock headlight assembly that has clear lenses, just 'cause it looks cleaner.

Bottom line is, if you're not using HID SPECIFIC PROJECTORS, don't expect to not be blinding people as you're driving down the road with your "HID" kit.

Those H4 conversions are great for H4, and make a substantial difference. Those Hella Ecodes look pretty dang good, but they're not designed for HID. I had PIAA Xtreme Whites in my 89 LXi, and they were pretty awesome. But there's definitely a difference between an H4 housing and an HID projector, plain and simple.
