Ok guys, so I don't have 9 million pics like some others do, and I've had this car for 10 years now, and have built it, broken it down, and rebuilt it a few times, but that was all with sound system, and looks. Now it's time to lift the hood and really get this underway.

So here's some pics from last summer fall when I started tearing it down, to where it is now. Followed by some pics of the plans for it.

Yanked the stock carby and manifold. Checking the angle for production of a proper manifold:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/DSC00736.jpg

Mock-up for the new induction:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/IMG00089.jpg

Mock-up done, now it's time to start tearing it all apart:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/whatthe.jpg

Cat-power FTW!
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/1catpower.jpg

Just a reminder of what the front end use to look like with the custom clear corners and custom clear bumper lenses:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/clearcorner_1.jpg

Re-assembly of the P&P'd head I bought off Messy:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/Picture006.jpg

New production manny is now available for the A20's with the proper angle:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/A20A%20dcoe%20manny/RXS_2243.jpg

Vacuum Setup I threw together. This is just to show what it's all about:
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/DCOE/vaccan001.jpg

I had a problem with the d/s front lower ball-joint, so I had to cut the tip of the bolt off and was not able to get the nut back on so I can lower the knuckle into the LCA and get a wheel/tire on it. This past Monday night I attacked the bad cut with a file and was able to thread the nut on and get the wheel/tire on, so now (after 6+ months) I can take it off the jack-stands and roll it out into the driveway to keep working on it instead of in the cramped garage.

Plenty more to come little by little.

Chris capped his A20 distributor hole somehow, I don't remember what he used though.

Just a thought, wouldn't it be easy for the guy making the obd1 adapter plates to make a block-off plate for it?

markmdz89hatch
05-18-2009, 09:12 AM
...and that's a very good thought. Where would I find said guy?

I was looking at the stock dizzy, and wonder if I might have to just gut on and stuff it on there only because it's got the bearing built into it, and has that spade that fits on the end of the cam.

If something could be made that mimic's the end of the dizzy, that would be sweet.

To attach the trigger wheel to? The bearing in the distributor doesn't bear the load of the cam.

Jesse, thanks for that link. Hell, for the $24, I might as well try it right.

To attach the trigger wheel to? The bearing in the distributor doesn't bear the load of the cam.

Not for the trigger wheel. The trigger wheel attaches to the crank pulley, which, along with the rest of this system, is what will drive the ignition system now. This system uses timing from the crank rather than the cam. This is a 'distributorless' system, so there is no longer any need for the dizzy, so I can essentially just plug that end, but what I'm still a bit in the dark about is the function of the dizzy to keep the cam from walking. I know it doesn't bear any vertical load, but I'm only assuming it does maintain a bit of lateral load in keeping the cam from walking. ...I say that only because without the dizzy, I don't see anything stopping the cam from trying to walk toward where the dizzy was. I know I'm repeating myself in this response, but I'm not sure if I'm being really clear about my concern. Hopefully someone will get what I'm trying to say.

I think the real question then, is what keeps the cam from walking out towards the cam gear? I don't think the cam will move, but I'm not sure I understand what holds it in place either.

Is there something in the distributor that holds it on place then? I'd think that would make it pretty hard to take the dizzy off..

Here's an image I scabbed off an ebay auction:
(Note the 'plug' that goes into the head is a two-step, the 1st (larger diameter) is acting as the seal, and the 2nd is somewhat of a cam-button with those two spade lugs that fit into a slot at the end of the cam (what makes the dizzy spin). What I'm wondering is if there's a need to just plug the head to take the place of the 1st step, or if I'll need a plug to mimic both 'steps'.

Does that make any sense?

The cam will walk the same with or without the distributor. The key doesn't sit all the way in against it. The cam is centered by a ring that rides in a groove in the end cam cap.

Good stuff man, nice to see your collection finally(well bits of it). Is that a regular battery or no?

shhh.... Yes, you of all people know all-too-well that I 'forgot' to put a few pics up. In time they'll surface though. For the battery, no it's no normal battery. That's a sealed AGM (absorbed glass-mat) battery which allows me to install it at pretty much any angle/position, but the main reason in getting it was for safety (in case I roll the car [hopefully will never happen]) but more-so for space and weight savings. This thing is tiny, and although a lead brick, it's less than half the weight of the stocker. But this all comes at a price of about $180. Shit that hurt. Link to more than you'll ever want to know about batteries: http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial_battery.html#3

OOOO...i remember those...FUCK i want a set...LOL...

I think I can whip up a set. I have a friend with a metal brake, and can just duplicate these, but I think using aluminum would be a better alternative to this zinc-plated sheet for rust/corrosion resistance. Let me know if you want me to do it.

what stage cam did you go with

Don't quote me on this, but it's supposedly a 272 (which is only a mild/mid grind, nothing crazy as I don't want something like a 295 screwing with my idle while I'm trying to tune the carbs). I have yet to even open the box, so I'll mic it up as soon as I open it just to check everything, then I'll confirm the 272.

markmdz89hatch
05-21-2009, 09:13 AM
my shop? The fucking garage is just barely big enough for the car. Hell, last time I had to get into the car to start yanking the dash, I opened the side door to the garage just so I could open the car door enough to sneak into the car. Climbing out the window was much easier on the exit.

Why in the hell they built my garage so damn small is beyond me. Especially considering the damn thing was built in '52 when cars were the size of army tanks.

I seriously might just fly your ass out here if for no reason other than to help tune the carbs. Hell a local shop around here was willing to do it for me, but they get $85/hr for regular shop time, and more than that for tuning, so it would end up costing me the same if not more anyway. ...decisions decisions...

2ndGenGuy
05-21-2009, 09:23 AM
Uh I don't know if you want to put me on the spot tuning carbs like that. I don't REALLY know what I'm doing! LOL. I can bring my wideband O2 setup, if they don't take it from me at the airport. mo updates....

Not much, but here's some pics of this weekends' progress.

Pushed her out of the garage, and first thing I did was yank the fenders so I could get at more of the soon-to-be-useless parts in there.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2018.jpg

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2018.jpg

Upon getting the fenders off, I found an antique mouse nest. Based on the contents of the nest, this was from when my grandmother had it (she's the first, and only previous owner of this hatchie).

From this hole:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2009.jpg

I got this: (It seemed like the endless pile of shit that was caked in there.)

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2012.jpg

After that little excursion, I took aim on the dash. After about 40 minutes of wrestling with it, while my son (only 2.5 yrs old) was 'helping' it looked like this:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2019.jpg

...what came out... ...and will not be going back in: (minus the hammer. the boy dropped it in the 'trash pile' as he went for another tool I'm bound to find rusted up after sitting outside in some obscure hiding place in a few weeks.)

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2004.jpg

...after all that junk was out, I was free to do a bit of an interior wire-tuck (not really, I just zip-tied the entire harness up and out of the way just in case it's to be used again in another lifetime). Snug as a bug in a rug.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/2011.jpg

So she's no beauty queen anymore, but I already have one replacement panel, and need to get the drivers side now, and have them grafted on, but here's how she sits (bare in mind there is nothing in the front, so the back is a teenie bit lower than it will end up sitting.)

...and just some never before seen shots of the interior that I did back in '01. Any thoughts? No clue how I got a red tint on the headliner pic, but you get the idea. Still need to decide if I'm going to swap the back seats and hatch area back to burgundy or swap the dash and front seats/door panels to the black. Decisions decisions.

I'm actually have an Aerodeck here at local JY, 2 owner, clean Black interior, no tear and wear, good dash with only one double tape thingee that is not there anymore. with good rear seats and EDM center console and even with original extra "front fog" switch. I can take some picks for you when I get back there for alternator I'm trying to take out. Were thinking about you when I saw it, I believe you wanted A20a4 pistons? I was thinking if I take down crossmember and engine support, oil pan and crank, I can just pull pistons out without engine being out of car...

If you do black, Mark, you'll have the same interior as everybody else on the forum who swapped to black. It's nice, no doubt about it, but it doesn't have that funky charm of a mint red or blue interior. :D

I do agree with you a bit on this John, but instead of the SE-i black interior with the leather, and power everything, this is from the less extravagant, but much more rare Phoenix Red '88 DX Hatch (although turbanaka [or something like that] has that damn hatch already), or in some cases, the Phoenix Red '89 DX Coupe.

Then again, as you said, no one else has actually embraced the idea of the maroon except for Dennis and Pete (peteandjenn) from what I know of. And honestly I do think the maroon on salt&pepper grey looks damn good. ...but I'm not sure how well that maroon will work with some of the secret projects I have yet to post any pics of.

Progress: I dropped the head off at the machine shop today to get inspected for what I suspect is a crack, but is hopefully just a casting seam. I'll be damn pissed if it's a crack because I bought a fresh P&P'd head from another member, and it was packed terribly when it was shipped to me, and the 'cracks' (hopefully casting seam voids) were EXTREMELY obvious the minute I got it out of the box.

...ok, anyway, due to the shitty packing, the head is back in to the shop to get pressure checked, hot-tanked and fully cleaned, and milled to get rid of nicks from shipping. Fingers crossed on this one.

A friend of mine and I will be honing out the cylinders this weekend too.

After I get the head back, it'll get a fresh coat of paint, get it's valves, seals, springs, retainers, and reground cam slapped in it. The block will also catch a fresh coat of paint, and be ready to make good friends with the head. Then it'll all find its way onto the cherry picker and snugly between the wheel wells.

How do we feel about my new (to me) seats? I know I'm gonna get heat from some ppl about how '80's they look, but let's think about it... What years are our cars? At the end of the day, I think the colors better match the completely monochrome look I'm going for, and the shape/style of the seats (IMO) suits the angles of the car. For the price, I couldn't go wrong. I will reupholster them one day and replace the light grey/silver with an 'almost white', but for now, I'll just hit 'em with the Bissell green machine to get them as clean as possible.

Anyone know what they came out of? ...oh and $30 for the pair, so it was a bargain in my book. The drivers seat has a tilting seat pan adjustment, lumbar adjustment, and bolster adjustment (ie. They can be opened/closed depending on how fat you are or how tightly you want to be held in place.)

ok here's the weekends progress report:

1. Those seats will look good if I could ever get the little bastards into the car. I fear though that I may have to scrap the idea of using them and just sell them. The damn friggin sliders/brackets are welded to the seatpan and the outer bracket is actually part of the structure of the seat (ie. it extends up and has the pivot pin for the seatback). Who does that? Dammit.

2. My old power rack has been removed, and the new de-powered (or manualized) rack has been installed along with new tie-rod ends. Now that should have only taken about an hour to swap out, but no thanks to the faaking passenger side tie-rod end that refused to come off (I broke my arm puller, then resorted to the pickle fork. Still no luck. So I broke out the real ball-joint separator tool, and just about ruined that too. Nope still stuck). So I resorted to just unscrewing the tie-rod from the end and pulling off the entire fooking knuckle and swapping it out with another spare knuckle I had in my parts pile.

What I'm pissed about is that because of that, I had to use my new tie-rod ends which I was not going to use until I replaced everything on the knuckles. (ie. lower ball joints, and wheel bearings). So now i'll just have to be VERY gentle when I attempt to remove these. Oh how nice would it be if I could just keep the car on jack-stands and not have to worry about getting wheels back on it every time and pushing it back into the garage every night. What a pain in the balls.

Welcome to my world Mark, I spend 3 days taking one ball joint on drivers side, with multiple tools and methods. almost broke my arm. But I hear you on thing sitting tight on our 20yr cars.
S*cks about seats, I'd really loved to see those in your car, those looks just nice and complement 80's. It newer would look goofy. As for wheels, cant you just leave car outside on stands? its not like someone would come with wheels to steal it. Just cover it up and hide tools in your garage as I do.

You're obviously not married with kids. lol. Nah man, my wife would castrate me if I told her I was just gonna leave it in the driveway up on jackstands. It's bad enough I have my old pickup just sitting next to my garage with 4 flat tires.

Oh well, I don't mind knowing she's locked up in the garage when I leave for work, and that it's not going to have to worry about rain, cats sleeping on it, and the wife bumping into it by accident with her overgrown suv.

You're not working on it in the garage?

Nope. If you saw my garage you'd understand. What I don't get is that my house was built in '52. In the late 40's or early 50's, cars were generally huge. I know for a fact (yes I did try) that if you tried to park my dad's '56 Dodge in the garage, yes you can drive in, and shut the garage door, but you can't open the car door to get out. ...and if you could crawl through the window, you better crawl out the passenger window so you can get out because you're only shutting the garage door if you bump the back wall and nick the bumper with the door.

Long and short of it is that the damn thing is just slightly larger than a shoe-box.

you still have that paper weight?!?!

Yep. I need to get it running well again, then on craigslist it goes. Been holding onto it mainly because it's a pretty uncommon (don't wanna call it rare) Desert Runner package. (ie. factory 3" lift, bucket seats, two-tone paint scheme, twin-tube rear bumper, etc.)

ok, made a lil progress the past few nights....

Head is now fully assembled, I just need to finish up with all the valve adjustments. (I am not 100% pleased with the way the head went together, but we'll see what happens.)

Block just got a fresh coat of paint, new freeze plugs, and a cylinder hone tonight. Tomorrow I pick up a new oil pump and I'll hopefully get the new rings on the pistons, then get the pistons/rods/crank/all bearings installed on the bottom end.

Then maybe Friday night I'll be able to bolt up the head and tranny to the motor. It's a real long-shot, but I'm fighting an uphill battle to get it done. ...uphill or not, I'm still not giving up hope.

It's got Kirsten Dunst before anyone knew who she was.

As you saw this weekend though, the Jumanji jungle has been 'slightly' trimmed back from the truck. That's it though, the truck now has a name: Jumanji.

...So a damn faaking MOTH flew onto the block and landed right in the wet friggin paint, the proceeded to drag its powdery self all over the damn place. ...it's been removed and the blems painted over, but what a ball buster.

Just like looking up Hayden PanaQW$%$% (dunno) on imdb yielded info that she was the annoying tot in Remember the Titans. Didn't know that. Another 'huh, no shit'.

Ok, onto the car.... (dammit Steve)

I'm hoping to pick up the Oil Pump tonight (Autozone couldn't find one of the 3 they said they had in stock last night). Will get that installed, scrape the block free of any gasket remnants, pull the crank, rods, and pistons from another block and get them in.

I gotta pick up a new torque wrench tonight too. Mine doesn't seem to be 'clicking' when it gets to torque.

Are you going to get this thing done for the meet?

:banghead: <-- That's what I do on a daily basis thinking about this build.

The honest answer is I'm trying, and working on it almost every night. That engine pic was taken at about 7:30am as I was leaving for work. I had finally decided to call it a night at about 3:00am that same morning, so I can get at least 3hrs of sleep. Last night I didn't get home until about 11 and was dead tired so I had to admit defeat on the night. Tonight though, I intend to pull another all-nighter, and will be requesting a half-day tomorrow so I can get home early and get to work on it. :dunno:

It is painted. The block is painted high-temp gloss black, and the head is high-temp aluminum paint.

I can confirm without any question of doubt that the MegaJolt system WILL NOT be going in before the meet. I just can't afford to buy the box right now, so that will have to wait. It will just have a stock dizzy for now. Honestly as much as I've talked about this thing, it's basically a bone-stock motor right now. The only slight upgrade is the head. The bottom end still has crappy A1 (PK4) pistons, stock crank, and stock rods. It's just hopefully a refreshed motor.

Right, so a little progress report.

The engine in as of last night. Tranny/clutch, intake manifold, and other various bits still need to be bolted up though.

I just walked back to my desk from the kitchen here at work and something just went wrong in my back. I think it's just muscular as I've been nursing it for a few weeks now, but right now it's really uncomfortable. I'll pop a few Tylenol or Ibuprofen and see if it lets off a little. Either way, the show must go on, so tonight I'm going to try to get teh tranny and clutch in, and maybe even the axles, knuckles, forks, etc.

So to the few of you that knew my plan on getting the motor in by shear brute force (aka. slide the engine and tree off the stand and carry it over to the car, and turn/lower it in place.) and tried to convince me otherwise can now say "I told you so you dumbass".

Overall it went fairly smoothly and without much complication. But man is that faacker heavy.

Alright, well a little progress report:

There's just about NO CHANCE this thing will be ready in time. There's just WAY too much left that needs to be done in order to just get this damn thing running, let alone being road worthy and picture worthy.

I admire your diligence Mark, on the project. Keep up on the goal oriented mindset. It helps to write them down and redo the list every other day when you realize more of the details along the way.
Something else that helps too is try not to add too many extras not related to functionality ,reliability and safety. Some os those really slow your progress down, but I do admit they tend to be things that keep the project fun. :chainsaw::cheers:

lmao at the puns guys. Ive got a 16 month old and 5 year old and I think shes says all those once a week. She has a workbench next to mine and as long as I keep it occupied with stuff to sort or pond on shes set. if I fall behind the mouth opens and its all down hill from there. She loves walking around the garage picking up screws and small things that fall off my overloaded workspaces.

Keep at it mark Im sure youll see the light one day. I saw mine at 330 ion the morning after rebiulding the trans with a flashlight in my driveway. I still didnt make the meet. Havent touched it since either. Go figure.

yeah I'm the "work hard not smart" guy on this project.

Ok, so here's the deal (yeah, still no pics):

Engine and tranny are in. I'm waiting on an emergency order of a piece of my carb linkage, which should get here either today or tomorrow. Then the linkage goes on, and the carbs get mounted up to the head.

The front knuckles have been dropped off just this morning to get new wheel bearings and ball joints pressed into them. I found the adjustable rear upper control arms that I've been tearing the garage apart trying to look for. When I jacked the ass end of the car up, low and behold, there they were. Already nice and comfy in place of the stock arms. When the hell did I put those on? :dunno:

The stock fuel pump has been gutted from the fuel neck and a longer piece of tube added so it gets to the bottom of the tank. Then I literally wasted about 4 hours trying to figure out where and how to mount up the new fuel pump and filters. Both are huge, and both are external. I ended up having to fabricate a bracket for the fuel pump because there was no way it was going on with just the stock mounting plate.

Just last night I picked up a 5 foot length of steel 3/8 tubing, a double-flaring tool, and about 12 ft of 3/8 hose so I can plumb everything in all nicey-nice.

Last night it was fuggin pouring out so I had to resort to a shop light hanging from the "oh-shit" handle and a hand-held flashlight to finish getting the dash all together. Dash is back in, wiring is all finished up inside the car (except for the ignition switch), and the steering column has been re-attached.

So, the shortened to-do list:

Finish plumbing for the fuel delivery
Figure out what the hell to do with the exhaust
Install and (slightly) tune carbs (although I have no idea what I'm doing there)
Install new battery
Re-install fuse box
Put the engine harness back on
Install Alternator

Hope to God my rad is still good

fill up on all fluids, do a little praying, and turn the key (or maybe push the button) to try and start it.

I've never done an engine tear-down or rebuild before, and had no one who's done this before to look over my shoulder and either slap me in the head for doing something wrong, or help me through some of it, so you're guess is as good as mine as to whether or not it'll actually work.

Oh, then finally wash 'da bitch. She's dirrrrrrrrty.

great list now put them in hiearchial order, for example installing the alternator would come before the battery, sparky.. lol
sounds like you do not have much more to do really, cool

Except the fuel line plumbing could take hours and hours to get right. Bending up the hard lines and flaring the ends is a real bitch to do and do right. I've been holding off on the alternator because I would rather have as much room as possible when installing the carbs, then doing the other add-on's later, but we'll just see.

Oh, forgot about the dizzy too. That's gotta go back on too.

Last.... ...anyone have any recommendations on plugging up the EGR and other (don't remember what it's for) fittings on the stock carb manny?

russiankid
08-11-2009, 10:12 AM
Before you fire her up, prime the oil system!!!!

Looking at the list, you're almost there man! you have 3 more days and nights go get this done. Tuning the carbs...well you can do that on the way down here.

As far as plugging the manifold, get a bolt that would fit. Or, get the stock pipe for it, crimp one end and seal it up.

2oodoor
08-11-2009, 10:40 AM
you can mount the alternator, wire it up and so forth then take out the slack adjuster bolt and allow the alt to swing back toward the firewall safe and snug out of the way. Then once you are done in the intake manifold area you can swing it back around, install the belt and slack bolt. The alt can stay on the main pivot bolt the entire time, just leave it a wee loose so it can swing.

alright, well here's the shitty pics...

I got all the plumbing done last night. Hours spent under the back bumper of the car, and a lot of tinkering with the bender and double-flare tool. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out, but I'm sure I'll end up redoing it at some point because there are a few bends I'm not entirely happy with, but this will do for now. I tried to do the whole run (from the back bumper to the tank) with one length of pipe, but there was no way in hell it would work. I ended up with two pieces. The pics show the simpler piece. It really got interesting, with compound bends, with the piece that goes around the wheel well.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/IMG_0444.jpg

Engine is in (but I still need to finish up the wiring harness and plug all the fittings on the water pipe).... (yeah and sorry, the tranny is damn dirty, I just don't have the time to blast the casing and get it sparkly clean at the moment. ...in time in time)

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/IMG_0454.jpg

What sucks is this is coming *back* together. I was a VERY nice, very clean, rust, dent, scratch, smell (damn mice) free hatch and she even got a fresh new coat of Pure White GM paint back in '01. Now she's beaten down by years of neglect.

The rear suspension:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm178/mark_mdz/3G/IMG_0447.jpg

You can hardly make it out now through all the rust, corrosion and spiderwebs, but those knuckles, control arms and Brembo rotors used to be painted nicely. Every single bushing, nut, bolt, washer, seal, etc was replaced with new when I did the rear disc swap. The BFG SS lines were nice and bright red. Now this is what it's deteriorated to. It'll get back to it's glory days.

AHHHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHA

The beast is ALIVE!

Don't all rush out and ask for vids or pics, or anything as it's running like shit and still needs a new throttle cable. The carbs need to be sync'd. The jetting needs to be sorted out. The water temp gauge and sending unit needs to be connected (oops). I need to put an analog oil temp gauge in, and analog water temp gauge because both scare the bejesus out of me. Timing needs to be straightened out. Vacuum for the dizzy needs to be sorted. ..and it needs an exhaust at least past the downpipe (LOUD AS FAAK right now). Yeah, so there's still a laundry list of things that need to be done, but she did turn over, and was able to hold an idle. The cam is so lopey the entire car was shuddering, but she held a steady idle. The clutch cable pisses me off too, so I'll need to find a shorter cable that has the same ends on both the tranny and pedal assembly. Once she gets a few more minutes of running time at temp, the head bolts will need to be re-torqued too. I need to figure out something for the air cleaner/air box/anything better than open horns too.

No, honestly when I first did it, it was already something that was seen as kinda outdated (I did it in '99), but I kept it anyway. Now it's just kinda something that I do to keep the memories of it alive. ...oh and to piss off Steve because I know how much he loves seeing it.

Sadly I dont have a pic of this, but it looked really nice indeed, from one angle when you didnt see gaps.

Ouh and that lip is rare as fakk, its almost impossible to find. And original that style bumper was made of Cevlar as those round headlamps frames and Manta400 bonnet. The lip was plastic or as they call lip here CatKiller..

yeah, what a mess that ended up. There were two valves with stress cracks and pitting on the necks, the thing was all caked up with aluminum shavings from the porting job, it had to be milled because it was hanging out of the box when it showed up on my doorstep. Two or three of the valve guides were cracked due to that head being the victim of a snapped t-belt and many bent valves. The head had to be pressure checked because of the casting voids that were exposed from the porting and not filled (so much that a fingernail could easily 'catch' the voids). All in all, I ended up having to dump over $250 more into it, but the good news is that it seems to be holding up well enough from just the startup. Hopefully the bottom end hold together too because this was my first complete engine rebuild and I had no clue what the hell I was doing during the whole process.

At the end of the day, I have no regrets about this entire build. Even if it blows up tomorrow, I learned so much from what to look for with porting/polishing jobs, how to disassemble and reassemble every last little nook and cranny of the head, and the entire bottom end tear-down and assembly too. No regrets. Just a great learning process.

You mind if I copy you? I have a spare cover for when I was going to add fittings for my evap setup and was contemplating the wrinkle red or smoothing all the lines off and painting it the same color as the car.

Oh......and your oil cap doesnt match. :kekeke:

only suggestion i have for you mark, on the seats, i wouldn't do the ls integra as there aren't any true black seats, one is graphite, the other is a blue color, the RS integra has the closest to black but they're a pain to find, i would go with a crx si seat if you can find one, i have prelude seats in my ef sedan, they're from a 2000, they are super comfy and black, got em for 80 bucks and angus (lx-incredible) welded up some chopped brackets that we hacked and measured and fitted to them, so they bolt up like stock, easiest thing i found is go to the junk yard and get some seat rails, they cost me like 10 bucks for 4 of them, and just chop cut and weld to get one right and looking like stock.

here's what i'm talking about for the seats...

oh and i forgot to add i'm totally gonna go old school like you and throw down on the mad tyte edm single wiper... all you do is put a bigger blade and rotate the originating angle on it right? seems that straight forward anyway... i think my civic could use some more old school flavor.

forgot to also add that this build is sick and i love it... keep it up... if we end up doing an east coast meet that i can actually make it too i would love to see the car and meet you in person!

thanks for the comments guys.

So slight updates....

Statik --> I hate to admit it, but I had a set of CRX seats in MINT condition about 7 years ago, and then spent another $600 to get the center sections reupholstered with a salt&pepper tweed. ...then about 2 years ago, I sold them for $160 shipped. I hate myself. You know I always thought the same about the 'teggy seats not being truly black, but the pics the guy sent me clearly show black bolsters with gray inserts. They do look good I must admit. We'll see though.

Ren --> Yeah thanks man. I love the shake from the no exhaust and the lopey idle. ...but the shaking will go away quite a bit as I'm working with another member on getting rid of the shake from the stock motor mounts. ...but that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Fiend --> Thanks man, that does mean a lot from a new member. Hope you plan on hanging out a while too.

Dennis --> Please by all means, go right ahead and do that. Hell I'll help you with the damn thing if it's possible.

Shameless plug here: Guys, check out the link in my sig. Get yourself some 3geez emblems/badges.

i haven't done much of anything to it lately... (too damn cold)

But here's the few things.....
Sold the MR-2 Seats (they were going to be WAY more work than I wanted to put in to get them to fit right in the car)
The Konig's were dismounted from the tires and the tires (and wheels) are up for sale.
Last night I removed the stock shifter so I can get a new one installed soon enough

I've tried starting it a few times since that last vid, but no luck. It's a throttle issue and an issue of 5+ yr old fuel in the tank. That's going to be drained and filled up with some nice fresh stuff come spring time. For now, if I try to start it between now and then I'll just run a fuel line from a portable tank to the pump and let it get it's fuel that way.

More updates to come though. I refuse to let the cold stop all progress.

I didn't do a damn thing to it over the winter. It's just too damn cold out to do anything and my garage is so small that I can't do any work on it while in the garage, so my options are limited.

Hopefully I'll start getting things going in the coming weeks though. Stay tuned for updates.

She saw sunlight last weekend...

...but only for a few hours as I cleared a bunch of shit out of my garage to make room for a new toolbox I'm hoping to buy in the next few weeks. BUT... I had my hands on the car long enough to really want to get it going (again) (...err... ...again, again, again, again, again [for those that know me and that have been around since the late 90's)])

I came across a good deal on yet another set of wheels over the winter that I couldn't say no to. They were such a good deal that even if they didn't fit, or look good, I'd just sell 'em and move on.

thoughts?

Can anyone identify these wheels? If so, you've either been around a bit, or know your ol'skool wheels. 16x7.5 et.38
Yes, I know what they are, just testing you guys that's all. and yes, I know the tire is a pancake too.

Trying out a set of 14" Miata wheels. Wicked light! This bastard almost took my finger off when I put it on. It definitely bent it permanently/maybe broke it.
