Well.... I figured it was to be expected since the car had sat for a year or two but i have yet another issue with my 87 lxi....it doesn't happen every time but its happened 3 or 4 times in the last two weeks where I'll crank it up and it'll run, but it's skipping...about a minute or two later it'll stop skipping and run fine..... my gut tells me its probly my distributor cap and/ or the rotor button ....my timing belt is fine too..I inspected it 2 weeks ago..sound about right to you guys? It only lasts for maybe 2 mins and it doesn't happen every time.....

Yeah, cap & rotor will do that. You changed your plugs & wires already, right? Fuel filter might also be old and funky.

yeah I've run a bunch of injector cleaner through it so i don't think its the fuel system....maybe if it does it again to day I"ll go yank plug wires and see what's up....plugs and wires have been changed

Might as well change your cap and rotor if you haven't already, they're cheap and easy.

The injector cleaner will losen stuff in the tank and it'll get stuck in the filter. Might help the change that out now too.

x2. If you didn't do some of the basic preventive stuff before firing it up the first time (drain tank and refill with fresh gas, change fuel filter, oil, etc.), you might consider doing that now.

I didn't drain the tank and i haven't changed the fuel filter yet..but pretty much everything else has been done

Fuel filter will make or break how the car runs. An old/clogged fuel filter will foul plugs and cause the car to run badly/perform sub-par.
