I was driving today to a not far away town 150mils or so and on my way back engine died on me, luckily I was not far away from a nearest exit so I drifted to the side, made under the bridge and stopped, popped the hood and checked it out. My first thoughts was that I blown the engine, then I see its dry and head gasket is ok.
Well I go back a little bit here. When I got the car, I found rust in fuel fill hole, and capacity sensor was faking, showed that I had no gas, I filed few gallons and than it showed me that it was full.
Back to topic, so my second thoughts was that I run dry for gas, I knock on gas tank and it was empty. ordered taxi, filed with 1galon, and try to start this b*tch, I hear engine turning but no life, like empty RPMs, no pressure at all.
My third thought was, hmm.. maybe its, noo, no way. so I open my trunk, grab my wrench kit and go loose on timing cover, and what do you know? the timing belt snapped. I just sunk in my shoes. called flatbed track and got her home....
Well, I hope valves dont got beaten and pistons as well...
What the worst that can happen?

here some picks from today. sadly I dont have pics of engine and timing belt, because I didnt wonted to grease my nice cellphone. but I will get some tomorrow.

that sucks tom... the worst that can happen is you totally bent a lot of valves, the best case scenario is that you didn't bend any valves. good luck man!

Thanks, I gona need it :)

Well I sure hope that no valves got bent, I didnt heard any strange noises when it died. I will take valve cover and check on tolerances asap.

thanks A18a, well, you better change it. The problem is I dint had a chance to change it, I got car on friday last week. I thought about it, I gona wait for my pay day and all, wonted to do a full service on it, with new filters, oil, spark plugs, timing belt, spark wires, and good clean of air intake and TB. Valve adjustments and pressure test. well, I now think that I maybe going to swap my A20a4 in for the time being, while I overhaul this B20. cuz, that A20 is well maintained engine and never had any problems with it.
I seriously pissed off right now....

allways change timing belts when u buy b20 powered cars. im feeling the same way with driving on this old unserviced POS motor i have of my mates. you will find all of your intake valves or exhaust valves will probably be bent. i snapped a belt once on the starter motor and it bent like 8 valves. its the mean interferance engine. so yeah your going to have to get that head fully serviced. pistons will be fine

Also if your a bit poor currently buy a b20a5 prelude head or something steal the valves out of it and replace your valve stem seals for a quick fix.

Wow man this sucks. Well a least you got to feel the B20A power before the belt snapped. When my timing belt broke on my A20 it snapped the crankshaft my valves were fine. Hopefully it do any major damage. Good luck man:thumbup: Car looks great by the way

wtf?!?!?! that sounds like ur bearings were bad ceased up and snapped the crank witch inturn snapped the belt...

but that SUCK bro. I kno the felling of having shit break. Gotta remember i didnt even get to drive a MILE the first time after i put the cam in the car :omg:
but u prob are gonna have to do all the intake or exhaust valves. They shouldn't run too much.

Damn, that sucks big time. Maybe do bigger valves and some headwork on it if it needs fixing anyway?

I sure hope the seller didnt tell you that the timingbelt still had xx.xxx km left before it should be changed.
On the other hand, if he did you should contact him and ask for some of the money back.

Nah every oil change.

Just kidding, they go about 90k, but doing it before that is good.

That's a major drag dude. Sounds like you're going to rebuild it though, so that's good. Good luck!

thanks for cheer up people :)

Normally Timing belt needs to be changed every 62k mils, or 100k kilometers. as manual says. My had just passed 168,750 mils, so maybe it wasnt been changed from 90k.

well I have decided to rebuild the engine, new valves and all new bearings so I can go over to full synthetic oil. And if my money allow I do some work on this head. Bore out and two angle valve job. Has anyone any idea on where to find stronger valve springs? and valve retainers.
I have few plans on what I wont to do to this head, I just pray to God that it didnt got cracked and it solid.

I'm sending a mail to one dude here that lives of porting and tuning Honda engines and ask hem about what it would cost me for the job I want to do.
Mill 1mm or so from the top, port intake ports and exhaust ports, enlarge combustion chamber, bigger valves on the intake side - maybe 2 angle valve job, port match B16/18 intake manifold to this head and boreout of manifold to 65/70mm and polish.. got to start somewhere :D

I have looked under the valve cover to see extend of a damage and give you pics I promised. I found that one of valve retainers is loose, so loose that I can take it out with no problem at all. I also took a video of it.
I need to derise it.

There you have it. Bent valves that are unable to fully close. Thats why the lifters are flopping around.

Sad :(

oh man...i hate when shit like that happens....now you got to rebuild it for more power. and you will feel good about having a reliable engine

Rebuilding an engine is among the best car experiences you can have. You end up knowing more about your engine and car than any mechanic ever will. You'll remember the clearances on all your rod and main bearings. When something breaks, you'll remember, yeah that was a little iffy looking when I put that back. It's awesome.

I'm assuming you will do the work yourself of course. The head needs to go to a machine shop but the rest you can do yourself with a pretty basic toolbox. Please keep an update thread with lots of pics.

Tomisimo

Will do Dr. :D

Yes I was going to rebuild it my self, I have mechanical degree so this sud be not a problem for me, just lack of tools for now and garage space is a problem. The head needs to be send to machineshop in sweden or here. still havent decided yet. Its true that you say Dr. its an fantastic experience to rebuild an engine, I think log book would be a good idea to made track on what goes in an clearnesses and tolerances. Money is a issue at the moment tho ehh..

Thanks roodoo, you always cheer me up :) well I do have clean Accord, lill rust here and there but overall good car, it got potential.

I really hate to talk about plans before I do them, but I have something I wont to do to this engine. have been serfing the nett and came across one company in US. they do really nice porting and 3 angle valve jobs. Have spoken to ppl here at Honda club Norway who had their tops done by them. the job is awesome..

PortFlow port & polish, SuperTech Stainless Steel nitride coated valves, dual valve springs, titanium retainers, competition 3 angle valve job, surfaced to a mirror like finish and assembly = 1600USD by LaskeyRacing
