Oil pan tube

I have a 1987 Lxi,and the tube that gos into the oil pan is leaking bad.i have already put a new tube on and clamped it down,still leaks,any tips?

Is it on the back of the engine? If it is it might be the oil filter base gasket.

It doesnt look like its coming from the base gasket,its not smoking,but its droping alot of oil on the oil pan itself and onto the ground.It really looks like its coming out of the tube that gos into the oil pan

There could be a bad seal where the metal tube was pressed into the oil pan, but usually oil leaks start above and forward of where they are dripping. If it is the base gasket, it doesn't always have to drip onto the exhaust and burn.

Take some carb or brake cleaner and clean the whole back side of the engine the best you can, then see if you can get a better idea of where the leak is coming from. If it is the pan tube, you may have to weld or replace the pan.

I agree take some brake cleaner and clean it all off real good and get a bright light and pinpoint exactly where it's leaking. might try a really good sealant before replacing the pan though something like "right stuff" i think would do it ($15 a can but well worth it). but i'm getting too far ahead just make sure you know exactly where it's leaking first.

Did you use new clamps on both ends? The stock clamps wont make it.

I did reuse the old clamps,I thought they would still work.I'll replace them and see what happens.

yeah sneak on 2 water clamps. Just take them apart to put them on there dont try and get the hose off again.

oh wow im having the same problem.. the damn hard hose that goes from the oil pan to some black box.... it was taken off when i had the main and rod bearing replaced.. when we put it back on it never stopped leaking.. i was thinking about replacing the hard hose and some radiator hose since it is more flexible and easier to play with.... would that work?

I replaced the tube with radiator hose from napa,but I put the stock clamps back on and it worked for a little,but it's leaking again.I have to replace those clamps!!but it keeps raining outside.

I don't know about using radiator hose for oil. I would think it might break down.

The replacement tube from Honda works great. It's not crushingly expensive either. Remember that the hose coming out of the top of your PCV breather box and going to the PCV valve also gets hard and leaky. It's a lot of fun changing that one. I had the engine out of the car when I did mine. Hee hee.

i know what you mean.. both broke on me and i replaced the top hose.. but i cant get to the bottom of the manifold to replace the bottom one :( ill get to it when i swap manifolds and carb.

you can take the oil seperator box off of the back of the engine by removing the two 10mm bolts holding it on, then replace the hoses, once the two bolts are out,pull the box straight out from the back of the engine, it's pushed into a fitting on the back of the block. I did extensive modifications to my pan,and to the black box,to change it to threaded fittings, then i'm running all AN hose. That stupid hose always leaks, You have to get the correct size or oil will seep out, does anyone know the correct size in MM? i will look in my msc book for a suitable oil resistant hose
