So I'm trying to get the car in good condition again after letting it sit for years. Charged the battery and it fired up but I noticed smoke so I shut it off. I'm thinking that the alternator isn't spinning? The belt on top (looks like the water pump?) goes towards the firewall and whatever it connects to, isn't spinning. What is it? Is there a way to break it free?

The belt on top is the water pump. If its not spinning your gonna have problems lol.

Probably is the alternator. Mine froze up after sitting for a year. It seems that most 3geez "lose" the splash guard that prvents water from getting up there.
I do not know of anyway to free it up.

Replace the alternator. It's a fun job every 3g owner should have to experience.

Well, looks like I'm in for a tricky job. Maybe if I get lucky enough I can break it loose once I get the belt off. But thanks for your help guys and I'll probably be back to ask questions about how to get the damn thing off!

Pull the belt off and see what is seized before you go buying a new alternator.

Hey guys I got the car up and running again! Turns out I was able to get a wrench on the outside bolt on the pulley and hit it with a hammer till it broke free. Actually did use some pb blaster on it..messy, hope you didn't tell me not to use it for a real reason.. ha. Got a couple cell pics. It cleaned up fairly well except for a new ding in the door, a little more rust, and a pretty faded cf hood. Anyone know of an easy way to fix a dull finish? I figured I'd try buffing it and see how it works.

it looks good, whyd you park it for so long? lol. as for the dull finish its time to get out the ole clay bar and a nice good compound wax to bring it back to shine, dunno on the CF though depends on if its a gel coat or a clear coat

ha thought that I found a nicer car (94 accord ex), but I was wrong. And I'm not sure if the cf got cleared when the rest was painted or not so I'll try to make something work.

if it's the alternator and it's seized up, they aren't hard to rebuild just like an old delco, probably some fine emory paper and the kit should have new bearings plus brushes.

yeah it def needs a lot more work to get it back to where it was when I parked it. But that's no problem. I still have to get it legal here in s.c. then all the fun can begin. Once it's all waxed up and shining again, I figured I'd tint it out, paint the trim, and possibly get a new pipe. I kinda like the slight raspy-ness of this one but I'm used to the GReddy cat-back on the 94 which has a much nicer tone. Which reminds me, anyone wanna buy a 94 accord? labeledsk8r, want another one?

Oh and the color code, not sure on that but its the original paint that came stock on the car, if that helps

figured I'd throw in a couple random pics

Hey i have the alternator on my hatch right now that is good, i'm putting in a new one where the AC compressor was, i'm just afraid shipping would be high, if you could find me the idler pulley off of a 97-98 civic,i would trade plus shipping. It works good, but since i'm moving it i have the new one on my shelf and it's going on here. been sitting in the box for years. finally got around to using it.

Hey no problem man! and lostforawhile thanks a lot, but I'm guessing you missed the post where I said that the problem got fixed! And luckily I didn't have to remove the alternator either.
