So I decided to be productive last night and started pulling my drums off my hatch to see what the rear discs would look like on there.

In the course of this I noticed that the DRUM setup uses the same hub as the DISC setup.

Also the diamater of the OEM sized rear disc is the exact same as the diamater of the backside (that houses the hardware) of the drum assembly.

Yeah, but no caliper mounts on the drum knuckles.

Yes, if someone was motivated enough a plate could be made to replace the drum backing plate and allow a disc caliper to bolt up... There wouldn't be enough interest to make it worth anyone's time though. Much easier to find a set of spindles with everything you need at a jy... Cheaper too, and that's what we're all about on here.

Yup, I'm using my drum spindles because the ones from the disc conversion were shot.

I drilled/tap the holes for the disc screws tough.

I had thought about looking into a setup that was more friendly parts wise on the rear calipers but I never done much research on it.

i have most of the parts for this conversion also, but im still hearing that the rear trailing arms are different for the drum and disk setup, i got an 87 lxi hatchback , so i don't know of i need to get a set of trailing arms b4 i try this.

i was told this as well but from what i can see all the bolt holes align just fine (86 LX-i)

I believe the only difference in the 86-87 is the bracket that attaches the spindle to trailing arm... You need to use an 88-89 bracket and use a bolt and nut to attach the brake line if not off an SE-i

I just used the trailing arms off my 88 hatch. I have no idea if the 86-87 ones work though.

I didn't have any problems with my trailing arms. I do however have an 89'.

yah i think i got the horseshoe looking bracket with the 4 bolts on the back of the knuckle im still curious how different the 86-87 brackets are compared to the 88-89's
