how many miles do u have?

As far as the best oil goes, prob would be amsoil or redline full synthetic. Simple as that.

I personally use Royal Purple, has been proven to yield more hp and cooler engine temps then every other oil at ur local autozone. But if u have over 60k and never ran synthetic dont switch. You run a high risk of springing leaks from the synt breaking down clumps of sludge that stop leaks.

Royale purple is the best.. but AmsOil is just as good, and just as expensive.

I personally use Motul ES-8100 5W40 for the sedan and Castrol Syntec for the Civic.

The hatch had either Mobil1 or castrol depending on what was cheapest at the moment.

The best engine oil is the one that satisfies your needs. I personally use syntetics for the extended oil change interval.

chevron , motorcraft , castrol high miles

motorcraft is my fav but since the civic has a shit ton of oil leaks it comes out hella fast being semi synthictic

I bought my car with a Valvoline sticker on the windshield from the original owner, and I've been putting regular old 5w30 in it since. Doesn't burn a drop. I think carotman said it best, whatever the seals are used to that gets the job done is fine.

I use good old Napa 20W50 high mileage. I wouldn't suggest it really, but I have a bit of an oil burning problem, and I want a thick, yet cheap oil that is easy to come by in the case. When it gets colder I'll have to moved back down to 10W40, but until the thermometer drops into the 30's I'll be ok. After the rebuild I'll probably use a slightly thicker synthetic--probably a 10w40 as per the manual.

When it comes to mineral oils, mineral is mineral. so simple is that. I use 10W40 always and mineral. Works great and I feel like change oil often than fewer times.
But when it comes to synthetic oils, Mobil1, Castrol, Valvoline. is deff better than others.
Mineral is better in our engines as it was desined to run on mineral oil. To use synthetic oil, you need overhaul engine first. or risk damage engine internals. You can go over gradually as well. 3L mineral 1L synthetic oil, for 10k mils, than 2L/2L for next 10k, and 1L/3L for 15k to be sure. Reason is the engine is used to mineral way of lubricating, consistency and flow of oils are different between those types.

Some cars seals do not agree with synthetics, such as Ferrari. The other day my buddy put in castrol synthetic 10/40 which has nothing to due with the seals at this time, but oil light came on after it was hot, only at idle. So since his car is a 87 lxi (22 years old) I had him drain it and add 20/50 Castrol ( non synthetic), which would be less viscosity breakdown under high temp, and the oil light stays off and keeps a good pressure at idle. I do like Castrol. And I ran syntec in my new 22-re from day one with no seal probs. But some manufacturers will say no synthetics.

I dunno..ive never really bought into the whole "dont use synthetic oil in older vehicles" thing. Ive bought cars with plenty of miles on them and put either synthetic or semi syn in and never had issues, import or domestic, 4 cylinder to 8 cylinder..hell, I got my bike which is 32 years old with 50k miles and put synthetic in it and never had an issue...

it didnt cause any problems with the civic really just made the leaks leak more since its thiner then the regular 20w50 it had lol

^^ thats cuz the motor only had 50k. But they say dont switch on higher mileage cars is because the synthetic oil breaks down sludge and sometimes sludge will stop a oil leak.

I use Mobile 1 10w40 year round. The car likes it, I like it, we're a happy couple.

i use mobil 1 but any full synthetics are usually pretty good these days. Im told amsoil is the best and royal purple is meh

right now I'm using Castrol syntec blend with redline's engine oil break in additive. The additive has a bunch of zinc and phosphorus in it to replace what's been taken out of the oil. I'm probably going to switch to castrol syntec after another couple of oil changed though, cause I'd like to start using a full synthetic.

Best to get a non synthetic, or mineral oil, in case of having high high miles on the clock. Viscosity wise I'd guess 15W-40.

You have put a good engine flush in the oil, then drive about for 20 mins, to get the oil to heat up propperly, then you can empty the sump when cooled a bit. once all the sludge and all oil has drainned out, Then you can pour in the new oil.
