I've had an 88' LX for around a year, since I've had it (and before), it's had:

-No low fuel light comes on when low (I've managed to run out of gas three times now)(But all the other lights work right next to it and under)..

-When I fill the tank, the needle doesn't go all the way to F, and when I get to E, it takes a while to actually "run out" of gas completly.. (like 60-100 miles when it is actually on E)

Just wondering what it may be..

Bad sender gauge( i think its wut its called) shouldnt be more then like 30 bucks.

So, is that in the instrument gauge thing, or somewhere else.

Also, is that why the needle is off?

it commonly know as the Float. Its just the little device that floats on in the gas tank and it sends a voltage and lets ur dash gauges know were to sit at. It could and prob is the source of all your gas gauge problems.

He also said his low fuel warning light is not working. That is controlled by a thermistor I think it's called (a resistor that changes values depending on its temperature - it sits in the fuel and when the level drops below it, it gets hotter and trips the light). I don't know if that component is mounted near the level float or not, but probably is. Maybe a bad ground back there?

Fill up before you are on E...

I would but I'd be wasting 5 gallons of gas when it gets to E lol

Right... "Saving" $12 of fuel at the cost of the pump.

You guys do know that the pump is cooled by being submerged in fuel?

On most vehicles it's normal to have 25% (about 4 gal on our cars) left after the needle hits E. They do that to prevent retards from running out of fuel.

Like so lol, but since the needle is off, I lose track of what I have..

What makes the needle be off slightly?

(Like when I fill it, the needle shows 80-90% full and under F)

You've probably got a bad ground or some other connection that stops the low fuel light from working, and is messing with the level signal. I'd check that first.

And stop running your fuel pump dry.

I have a new fuel pump and haven't run it dry..

Where is the ground you're speaking of?

After the 1st time of running out of gas, I would learn...

when the needle hits e you have a reserve, that's to keep you from running out of gas, from full to e is only the top portion of the tank, most tanks are like this.on certain z cars thee was a second gauge to read the bottom portion of the tank, the way most tanks are designed it's impossible to read from full to empty with one sender.

Could be that the tank isn't getting topped off... I can normally get a 1/2 gallon or so in after the automatic shutoff stops the flow.

Tried it, sprays gas everywhere <.<

I was starting to think that.. Guess all I can do is try to fix the light so atleast everything works in the car..

So anyone know where the ground wire I need to check is?

37800-SE3-024 METER UNIT, FUEL (DENSO) $71.78

Might want to pick up an extra the fuel pump as well while you're at it, it's not going to last long running on empty.

17708-SE0-S30 PUMP UNIT ASSY., FUEL $246.94

Expensive, but just think of all you'll "save" at the pump...

Wasting it? It's not like it disappears anywhere is it?

What I've noticed on mine is that from F to E it's about 50 liters, which means there's about 10 liters left when it hits E. And when I fill it up it's right at the F.

(1 liter = 0.264172052 US gallons)

I have a new fuel pump, full assembly, and it was only 70 dollars...

And like I said I ran it empty before I got the new fuel pump, I havn't done it with the new one (I've had it since around March)

I have the exact same problem with my gas gauge (but I'm not running out of fuel).

The needle does not go to the full mark and after I have filled the tank the needle is very slow to go up.

So where IS this ground that needs to be checked??
