View Full Version : Blowing Blue on Cold start
my Car blows Blue when ever the temp drops blow 5`C and once the block warms up it stops. does it sound like the Valve seals need to be redone???
Desperately need to know, getting really embarassed when it happens.

That's the way it looks if it is valve seals. Try this: take it up to close to red line in 3rd, then let off the gas, keeping it in gear. Or go down a pretty good hill keeping it in gear. When you get down to around 30 mph, floor it. If there isn't smoke blowing out your tail pipe that's a vote for the valve seals.

valve stem seals,it's not a bad job and can be done with the head on the car, mine did this too, all my exaust seals had turned into charcol, fixed it in an afternoon and no more problems

valve seals are on start up and rings are when the car starts moving.

Seals will also put out blue smoke after the car has been sitting at a red light. The accumulation of oil on the valve stem is sucked through the intake when you press on the gas.

Done it and no blue smoke after the hill. It only does it when it gets cold out, any other time I start it up it doesnt do it.

Sounds like valve seals to me, which is better for you. I had an old BMW with bad seals, and it became too embarrassing to drive in the fall/winter when it was cold. We're talking giant cloud of blue smoke.

Thats exactly whats happening to me, I hate driving my car in the fall when the temperature fluxes, it should be easy to redo my valve seals shouldn`t it?

head gasket? i was told blues means its the head gasket.... btw black smoke at WOT means its running rich right? a friend was tailing me and he said he knew i was punching it cuz i was belching black smoke... not diesel status but enough to be noticed a car behind

the motor got rebuilt a year before I bought it, I think they forgot to do the valve seals, or they just didnt care.
