:nervous: STAT! mines leaking coolant and its getting NOISY like it wants to escape. again.
the junkyards here [IN AUSTRALIA] are useless and repco probably will be too so i am begging on the internet [will pay] for a '79 - '81, 1602cc water pump. it doesnt need a pulley but it probably needs a housing seal. the newer the better, but used is ok :)
can anyone help?:stick:

You want me to see if I can pick up an OEM one at the Honda dealer? EK and EL pumps should be the same, seeing as how the blocks are the same. They'll even interchange from 1g and 2g Civics and 1g Preludes...

hey thanks guys, yes the OEM route might be a good idea. i will advise, i will harass my long-suffering dealership locally first...
so the civic pump is exactly the same? when the original '81 pump wore out, i replaced it with the less worn '77 one, but the housing was slightly different at the base. it bolted up fine and just sealed ok, but there was some deviation between the two...

Yeah there are differences. The impellers are different. Some pump slightly slower to decrease horsepower losses for the less powerful engines. But they should all share the same housing. I don't really foresee it being a problem. But PM me if you are looking for one, and I'll call my friendly Honda dealer who always turns me down and tells me they don't make my parts anymore. :(

I've got a new non-Honda one I picked up at a swap-meet (claims to be for 77-81), if Repco etc. can't supply.
Good wreckers can be hard to find! Some don't even bother with anything over 15 years old & cheap Japanese wrecks (I even had problems getting a taillight for my '89-'90 CR-X!).
But if you can find one that's been around a while they sometimes still have old stock.
I saw some @ http://www.imlachs.com.au/ a few years ago.
I think my '79's still on its original pump....though it might be getting noisy.

Checked the ADL Blueprint lists and there's two part numbers listed for the 1602cc engine.
PART NUMBER NOTE FROM TO
WATER PUMP ADH29107 01.01.1979 01.01.1980
WATER PUMP ADH29106 Vin OC200000 02.01.1980 31.12.1981
So it looks like there's a 1980 onwards type, be careful of that in case it isn't a straight swap.

whoa thanks for the heads up hirst! i suppose i'll have to check my parts car manufacture date before i make a final decision...
79cord, i sent imlachs an enquiry, i like the look of that place :) if they dont have it and repco etc. [about to get on my bicycle and visit them] then your swap meet one might be the next best bet :)

Except that Hirst might be right...
Re-read my box which suggests fitment for '77-78 Accord & '79-80 Prelude (which should be same as 79-80 accord anyway). Something about a 35mm hub?
But if you said you were able to fit '77 pump to your '81 engine despite their differences who's to argue.
Wonder how different the '82-3 Accord & '83-85 Honda/Rover Quintet pumps could be & if they could be used?
Imlachs is just down the road from me so I'm a regular at their "self-service" yard & occasionally their more "professional" wherehouse/office for newer stuff. Though that photo's a few years old so those cars have all been scrapped & no 1g Accord for a while.... though there is a recently arrived '81 Prelude... & Quintets, 2g Accord & 1 & 2g Civic.

1g Prelude ('79-'82{-inc. 2g EL}) parts book suggests different of part numbers for EVERY year so only serves to confuse. Though sealing gasket part number never changed so I guess that shouldn't be an issue.

thanks for all your help and research guys! i cycled down to repco today and put it to them, and the young guy at the computer gave me a dubious look but then announced he had ONE in stock. the exact part i needed, a '79 to '81 1600 EL accord pump, with a gasket. i did a little dance inside and enquired as to how much it might cost. he gave me another look this time which i couldnt quite pick, and then after checking his screen at least twice, he explained it was down from $140 to $30 on clearance!
pretty happy with my purchase :) i havent checked it against the old worn out one i took off ages ago but it looks about right :)
