I can't seem to get mine to budge from the exhaust manifold. Any thoughts on that?

Cut it off and weld it shut.

i've never gotten one off myself
had been doing it each time i get it off, btw i just cut it, i'd use aluminum and a fastener to reconnect it
now i just rolled it back and pinched them shut

i would have just cut it also but stupid california laws prohibit that.. its needed for emissions

If you weld the egr pipe shut and block it off at the valve, will the ecu not throw a CEL? Just got a new 3g and has a nasty leak in the EGR pipe.

ECU checks the EGR via its position sensor (or whatever it's called that sits on top of the valve w/wires in fuel-injected cars)
If the EGr valve works otherwise it won't throw a code but the car will fail emissions if there is no exhaust gas reaching the cylinders to cool down combustion temperature.
