how exactly does it work ? screwing it in = less fuel, screw it out = more fuel ? I'm not sure. also my oil light will not turn off. its full of oil & the sender reads 2.31-45 ohms/ .05 volts. I replaced the sender & its hooked up correctly. If I remove the oil cap while its running I can see some oil getting to the valves & it kinda sprays oil all over me while I look in. its not a whole lot but some is getting up there, enough to lube everything I think. any1 know how many ohms the sender should be putting out & does any1 know the route for the oil wire from the sender to the light. I imagine the ecu is involved along its route. how do I test the system, I getting worried. sorry for the nobish ?

ok I followed the yellow/red stripe wire from the sender to the cab & it runs to some little black box. If I unplug the connection to this little box the light goes out as normal (lights on until I start the car then goes out). the plug running to the box has 4 connections/5 wires. yellow=ignition, yellow/red stripe=from sender (I think ?, it connects to the "P.SW" connection @ the box), white/blue stripe=to light (i guess), & 2 black wires @ the same connection=ground. I pulled the gauge cluster & followed from the oil light to its wire & its a yellow/red stripe just like the sender wire. so I don't know what the white/blue stripe goes to. my manual doesn't say anything about the oil circuit.

pics of the box.

any1 know what this box is for ?

thanks.

Be sure that's the same yellow/red stripe wire. There are a TON of them all over. That's a general 12v ignition wire I do believe. It feeds all sorts of stuff.

If I had to guess, I'd say that box is the illumination amplifier. It controls all the lighting to the dash and stuff. I think that maybe it powers that light and all the other dash lights. I'd confirm that by turning on your dash or some other idiot lights and seeing if they shut of too.

Of course it could be an oil light controller. There would have to be some sort of circuit, since when the oil pressure drops momentarily, the oil light will blink until the key is turned off.

Test one of those leads and see if you have the same signal that's coming off the oil pressure switch...

that box isn't the illum amplifier, john this was the box i was talking about yesterday on what the hell it did, the amplifier box is located right beside the fuse panel and is a 6 or 5 pin connector can't remember and has all red wires going to it with different color tracers.

that box that he pictures is above the fuse panel and further back towards the firewall, at least in my hatch it is. there shouldn't be a controller for the oil light should there isn't it just a simple circuit?

i would get a oil pressure gauge and test what the pressure is actually at, i wouldn't trust oil flying around as a good judgement.

ok with the box disconnected the yellow wire reads 14v, yellow/red stripe reads 14v, & the white/blue stripe reads 13v. I disconnected the wire to the sender, read the sender alone & nothing, volts or ohms. the wire going to the sender reads 14v. so something is sending 14v to the sender. with the box connected the car acts normal & all lights work fine but the oil light stays on. with it disconnected the car acts normal & all the lights work fine & the oil light acts normal, its on until I start the car then turns off. Im going to snag one of these boxes from a car @ the yard & see what that does. Im also going to ditch the stupid oil light & install a gauge & be done with it & most likely leave the box disconnected. what should good oil pressure be around ?

update

it's been 3 days & 210 miles with that box disconnected & she's running even better than before. she idles so much smoother, all the "stupid" lights are still working correctly & my gas E light even started to work again. I wish I new what this box is for, but it has no ill effects with it disconnected. no one has any clue as to what its for ? I'm getting a oil gauge today & plan on remove the "open door" indicator in the middle of the cluster & installing the gauge there. it'll be pretty sweet looking once I get it installed. also what about the a/f screw ? am I right on how it works ?

thanks.

I got the oil gauge installed yesterday. it turned out great I think. its @ idle & yes, that's @ operating temp (160* T & a 2.5gee rad)

little vid of it :)

That looks sick man! Really, what a clean job. I'd like to get rid of my door indicator lights anyway since it always thinks my hatch is ajar. What type of gauge is that, it looks like sunpro.

:thumbup:sweet, now I know how that will look. I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. Did you have to make the hole larger or did it fit right in?

it fit right in. a little loose, but once u tighten it snug its perfect.

I think the box is your bulb check relay, do all the other indicators come on,then go off in a few seconds? I don't know why the oil pressure would go through it, it's supposed to stay on until pressure builds up .how do you have the gauge connected, the pressure switch is still hooked up right?

yes all other indicator lights work normal. they go off in a few seconds once the car is running. Its an manual gauge hooked up via thread adapter & no I have removed the original pressure switch. the oil light no longer comes on
