Hey i just bought an 86 accord, i was wondering what the engine muber was right? so i looked where i saw A20A1 on my old accord and i scratched off some of the grime there and i saw BS1. I looked on a list of honda engines and i don't see anything resembling that at all. I was wondering if anyone on here knew what it all stood for? thanks.

Some of the first 86s used Honda's old engine codes. I'm not sure how or if it's any different than the A20A1. So yes, the engine number is right. That's about all I can say. Sorry.

Your car must be an 86. BS is the old nameing convention, its the same thing as an A20A1. Honda changed the schema in 87.

Exactly, the engine I have now is from an 86 DX model with the BS code. The engine that came with my car had the a20a1 code. Same engine but for some reason the valve cover is tan for the 86 and black for the 87.

the carburetor for the 86 BS is slightly different from my 88-89 A20A1 carb... the EFE Spacer plate has a different gasket and so on... I thought my auto parts store gave me a faulty gasket for my 89 but I guess they didn't list the parts for the 86-87 seperate from the 88-89. That may cause some problems when locating parts for a specific year... just thought I'd let you know.
