Was at the electronics store today and just saw some head units with bluetooth capabilities.

I don't like JVC. I currently have a pioneer cassette deck, so I need to upgrade. Mama won't mind if it has bluetooth.

Thanks all.

I say pioneer or alpine. Pioneer are more robust units.

$300-$500 Something preferably with a detachable face. That holds at least some theft deterence. Last years model preferred they are cheaper now.

It will last for ever, no one I know had any kind of problems with Pioneer and never the less, Pioneer develop technology, others fallows, Alpine are also good but design they have is boring.
The only good thing with Bloupunkt is that they are made in germany. Eclipse? never heard of them, kenwood, I had one in my first car, that sucker never wanted to play CDs when it was warm day and hot in the car.
I suggest you look in to this, I seen forums about car audio systems, there are wisards on this so google it :D
one thing for sure, you cant go wrong with Pioneer or Panasonic two most robust players Ive ever seen..

Pioneer sells a Bluetooth unit that attaches via IP-BUS.

Here's the question: Whatcha gonna do with it? That'll clear up a lot of the discussion.

Primarly music and hands free, and just a good unit to build a half decent audio sound system. Not totaling $1000.

Specifically, what is the bluetooth used for? You aren't gonna use a HF unit with your HU, are you? If you are looking to play music over bluetooth, most bluetooth enabled headunits are capable of this.

Jabra SP700, $30. Excellent piece of work. Beautiful, yet functional. :)

I'm just looking for a good solid head unit with a good track record. Alpine, Blaupunkt, Pioneer, Kenwood, Clarion were the top brands way back when I put the Pioneer in.

I second both of these choices... both excellent sounding head units with proper bluetooth. You can't go wrong with either one. And IMO stay far away from any alpine HU with their add-on bluetooth, it's not too good.

There's nothing wrong with a decent Clarion. I've yet to hear a crappy HU by them.

I'd recommend looking for a series that has an add-in Bluetooth unit in order to have a wider selection. I mentioned Pioneer, and theirs is made for both handsfree and audio streaming. The manual says that its compatible with navi and high end HUs only, but they said the same thing about their HD receiver and it works perfectly on my mid-grade HU. I'm sure they're referring to the phone profiles and such which actually require a high end model.

Wish I could get ahold of one just to test that. (EDIT: It is compatible)

I forget the exact model of mine but its like pioneer deh-p9800bt. Its a fantastic piece and has every option Ive ever anted in a deck. being a few years old Im sure you can get it fairly cheap. It has a reciever you place anywhere and I love it to death. It has more toys than a lesbian with a fetish

cassette...wow. I used to like the old school pioneers, I have one that was new and never installed that I just put in the DX last year, two shaft too.. lol sounds very good.

When picking a new style I would look for easy to access controls, no tiny mulitfunction buttons that take your eyes off the road.
I guess bluetooth controls would be great too.

I picked the Eclipse CD5030, I will get it in next week.

Yeah, I do agree with ease of use especially being in the over 40 age bracket. All the years of working as a mason, fighting professionally (which kills your hards) and just the idiotic stunts I did as a younger man. Gets me to dislike small tiny little buttons.

Now looking an amp (nothing wild) and good speakers.

Eclipse installed! And it is a great little unit. I have no complaints with as of yet. Install simple and quick. The mic was the only thing that took the longest time to run.

Momma will be happily surprised when she gets back from Alabama.

Phil, so glad you went with the Eclipse. That's by far and away the best deck I've ever had. I had a different model, but Eclipse as a whole stands out in the crowd.

As for Amps, I'd go with a used Alpine V12 2-channel on a set of JL 10W3 subs (or just one), but I'd stick with a 10 instead of a 12 because of the more crisp and less "shake the shit outta u" that the 12's deliver. For the separates, I'm still a huge fan of Boston Acoustic component sets. The Z series or Pro series was and still is the shiznizzle. I do really like the Infiniti line for separates as well, but they tend to have very bright tweets, especially the Kaeppa series. The perfects are a bit less bright and have an uber crisp sound to them too, but more expensive.

I've heard the Alpine separates and subs, and I'm not upset about them. Far better than a Sony X-Plode or something else in the price range.

Those are all just IMO.

Edit: This is my old deck, and I absofugghinlutely loved it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Eclipse-55430-Head-Unit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116 QQhashZitem45ed8aac6fQQitemZ300338031727QQptZCarQ5 fAudioQ5fVideo
