well, as ive posted, my 89 exi is in rough shape. but lookin around tryin to find standard parts or even a standard car, i happened across another 89 exi, full load auto, 255xxx kms. (for us metric folks, i could convert for miles, but im lazy at this second) so i headed down to the auction (i would have rather bought private) and looked at it. turns out, this car is in comparable or better shape than my current 3gee. so bought the car for a "painful" 300 bucks (plus buyers fee and tax 378) and drove it home.

so far:
needs a bath like a homeless guy!
power steering doesnt work
brakes in the front are really sketchy
needs an alternator

but other than that, looks good, sounds good. i think ill just move some parts around, and make a good car out of two decent saveable ones. ill try to get some pictures up tomorrow. for the meantime, both cars are fully loaded and for the most part complete. is there any parts that i should hang on to and perhaps sell or keep for just in case? maybe pm me for now if anyone needs anything. ill start a for sale thread too maybe.

see what suspension is better of those cars, rusted parts and never the less, keep engine and stuff to it. you never know.

well, i plan to swap over suspension parts because i know i just did a bunch of stuff like ball joints, etc in the front. and when i did the new uppers they came already in new upper control arms. so i think i may just rip out the entire spindle and move it as an assembly. as for drivetrain, mines no good in my current DD, so i think ill just hang on to the intake (multi port FI) and anything else that others say they want. i tried to go take pictures this morning but when i turned on my camera, EPIC FAIL, batts dead. so maybe tonight.

How can you tell that the power steering doesn't work? When I bought my second coupe, it felt like I went from driving a go-kart, to driving an aircraft carrier...

Not too bad. Where are you in Canada?

im thinking my ps doesnt work because in my black 89 exi that im driving now, its full assist, one finger turning even at dead stop. with this one, there is considerably more effort needed to turn. i drove the car home from calgary to red deer (about an hour and a half at 120 kmh, and in two cities for a little while) so i think i have an idea how much work is ahead of me to get this car going. i might be surprised later, but for now, drives good. brakes are pretty sketchy though.

im in red deer, ab, same as guyhatesmycar.

Exactly how I feel. Do you think mine's out, too? I remember spinning the wheel when sitting in drive-thru's or waiting for people, and the 'new' coupe won't even attempt to move.

well, over the course of the weekend, i removed my stereo and all fun stuff from my black 89, and proceeded to start swapping brakes, alternator and suspension parts. still need to install most of the parts into the white car, but its looking good so far. took the white car to the car wash, used an entire "tube" of armourall orange clean, and vaccuumed. the PO musta had a dog, theres scratches all over the park brake handle and white hair EVERYWHERE!!!!

im thinking i need to revamp my theory on the power steering because i noticed today that the resovoir isnt full. ill fill it up and see again if its still not much assist. as well, my drivers side brake rotor has only one of the phillips screws holding it in, someone stripped one out trying unsuccessfully to remove it, so i drilled the head enough to remove the rotor and pulled out the other screw. other than that, things seem to be going well. i hope to have everything moved over by tomorrow night.

oh, and i noticed that my drivers side spring is actually broken on the second loop from the bottom, where it just starts to "climb" off of the seat. not sure what that could be from, but the upper control arms were very stiff so maybe the two are related?? more pictures later, im too worn out to bother now.

looks nice man! you should swap the tan and black interior from ur black one in to this one to get rid of the maroon

i think im gonna keep the maroon. i think it looks better with the white, but more also its in better shape since my black car sunroof had tendency to let its water break like a prego woman :sad2: theres quite a bit of water damage in the front seat area.

its at allmax and come to think of it, i shoulda heard from them by now..... anyway. i was gonna shoot you a message, see if you want anything from my black car. youre close enough that if you want it, come pull it off (maybe another intake for an A3?) other than that, the black 89 will be hittin the crusher soon. engine and trans are shot (A20A3 and auto) bodys badly rusted, i was having trouble finding spots to jack on that would hold wieght lol.

as well, on my white car, got everything done so its ready to drive now. but last night or maybe the day before, i discovered that actually BOTH front springs are broken. any other damage i should be looking for with this problem?? accident maybe?
