Ok, so I bought my '89 lx sedan off nskforlife a couple years ago just cause he's a buddy of mine and needed to get rid of the car. tranny died on him and he didn't have time or space to fix, too many cars, needed cash, yadda yadda... offered it to me for a couple hundred bucks so i picked it up and tossed in a pullapart tranny. i planned to just sell it but it turned out to be a great car, so i decided to keep it for a daily driver since my prelude likes to break down once in a while.

*** side note, I'm a long-time member of preludepower and currently own a 90 prelude si, (august '08 potm!!) so if interested in that check it out here- http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273831 ***

anyway, so i drove the accord everywhere. here's a few random pics i took of it, in chronological order.
just after getting it running-

then threw on my crx si wheels just for giggles

then, uh... canoe trip. lol

then suspension and brakes

got the interior almost perfect on it just cause they're so common in the junk yard that i could always find parts for it. did the normal maintenance stuff... brakes, timing belt, etc. just an all around great reliable car. then a couple months ago i decided to throw on the drop springs mitch gave me with the car. lowered it a couple inches, no alignment, a little camber, bald tires (wich got worse with the camber/alignment issue) and a rainy day... and i slid into a ditch with a wicked embankment and kinda rolled it up on its side.
more pics-
here's the corner
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801090901-1.jpg
and the ditch on the other side
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801090902a-1.jpg
which resulted in the following-
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801090925-1.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801090919b-1.jpg

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801091039-1.jpg

basically shoved the rad support up into the motor and pinched the radiator and stuff. just basic bent up nonsense. so my girlfriend's dad (who drug me out of the ditch in the first place) helped me with the one thing i can't fix... frame damage. using, of course, his frame damage fixing machine...
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0808091601-1.jpg
which got it somewhat straight
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0808091610-1.jpg

then i spent a couple hours re-aligning the hood, headlights, bumper, bumper support, and fenders. no pics of that yet... and punched out the quarter panel

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0801091107a-1.jpg

at this point i was just gonna sell it, but i've had a change of heart and mind. i'll be selling the prelude and i'm keeping this till the wheels fall off. and in the meantime, i'm gonna patch it up and give it a little flavor while i drive it this winter. so look for updates as i finish stuff! i love ideas and criticism, and with my plan for the car, i'm expecting a few haters. but its cool. i don't really care, i'm just going to do what i like and rock it out. stay posted!

LOL! I love the frame fix! Major bummer about the wreck though.

Hondamonster
09-13-2009, 09:37 PM
yeah wrecking it really made me sad. at first i was just like "well at least it wasn't my prelude..." but then it sunk in that i had just messed up my one reliable car. and it's such a good little car that has never really gave me any problems... but i'll get it back up and at em!

forewarning-
it will indefinitely look really crazy. i mean really. crazy. but i've got a vision and i'm just gonna go with it.

haha yeah i know but it beats the heck out of a tow truck dragging me out so insurance could total and crush it...

been getting work done!
here's what i had completed after the wreck as far as straightening the front body panels out. pretty close to straight

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091344b.jpg
got the rear quarter a little straighter with a dolly. just gonna be lazy and bondo that up. and the bumper can stay like it is. doesn't really bother me too much. it will probably just add to the theme i'm gonna go with anyways
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091347.jpg
here's a bay shot. i pride myself in keeping it pretty clean, and the a/c and p/s have been deleted, as they didn't function anyway and were just dead weight and parasitic drag.

thanks to my recent frame modifications, the factory radiator fans didn't quite clear anymore and i had to leave them out when i put in the new (old) radiator. just a good excuse to pull them and throw in a slim fan! adds to the tucked effect i'm going for.
just wired it to push and put it where the condenser used to be
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091515.jpg
now the bay is even roomier
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091515a.jpg
then here you can kinda see where i painted over the places where the bucket scratched up the metal while bending it back. there was a little surface rust forming so i just sealed it up

now on to the body work! i find that old school hondas always look better emblemless, so started on fixing that up
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091649.jpg
i decided this looked like a smurf or something. totally picture worthy
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091709.jpg
glassed up the front holes. i've found that fiberglass is much better than bondo for filling holes. and i don't have a welder so that's not really an option for me either.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091742.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0914091743.jpg
a little primer to protect it overnight

did a little glazing after sanding down the fiberglass to get it all good and smooth
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0915091227.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0915091241.jpg
then primed again and sprayed an enamel to seal up the primer. (its rainy in tennessee right now. moisture is bad for bodywork)
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0915091429.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0915091429a.jpg
then here's a little preview of my wheel choice... i wasn't gonna post it but they came out great and i'm excited so f it.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0915091319.jpg
bmw e30 wheels. 14 inch +35 offset and i have some 185/75r14's to go on them. super tall tire. should fill the fenders nicely, and i'm gonna drop the car a bit more. these things have plenty of fender room and suspension travel.

final result on the wheels :)
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0918091451.jpg
there's a few raindrops on it cause i took it out of the garage to get a pic in full lighting.

thats what i'm hoping, but its not exactly going to be all tan...

Hondamonster
09-30-2009, 08:16 PM
ok finally got some time to work on it a little more. it has been under a tree for the last few weeks cause i just haven't had time to fool with it at all. got a little dirty with all that rain we've had...
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0929091411.jpg

anyway that quarter i squished needed some attention, and i'm not about to go cut parts off a car in the junkyard, so time for a redneck body solution.... that's right, folks, its BONDO time!!! haha.
did a little wire wheelin
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0929091433.jpg
and bondo
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0929091512.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0929091530.jpg
and then i'm not sure if there's an official name for this, but i doodle all over the low spots and creases so i know where to add and stuff. works for me.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0930091658.jpg
more to come soon.

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/1001091307.jpg
and the new color isssss........

satin olive drab army green

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/1002091536.jpg
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/1002091639.jpg
i'm thinking i'll keep it two tone for now. bumpers and everything below the moldings will stay champagneish and everything above will be flat green. here's a shot with a wheel propped up against it.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/1002091457.jpg
i'm diggin it. more painting as time allows. and i should have the tires mounted on those wheels soon too. i'm really happy with how the shave came out. can't see the holes at all. the 1/4 panel isn't perfect at all but thats cause when i punched it back out from inside the trunk i went too far in a couple spots and it wouldn't push back in without caving the whole deal in again. so there were high spots to work around.. oh well

gp02a0083
10-03-2009, 07:38 AM
the high spots from punching the panel out could have been dealt with a smaller ball pin hammer to lower the high spots. Good job marking out the panel for the low spots , helps a lot for novice/ beginner body work and also taking the tail lights out. you still have the option of fixing the 1/4 further, take flat black spray paint and spray the area for a guide coat and use a flat board sander/planer sander, the 3 geez's are easy b/c they lack many complex curves and have many straight lines, just remember to get the body line thats 1/2 way up the panel, best way to do that is to take tape and make a line down the door to the 1/4 and use that as a guide.

keep up the good work

Hondamonster
10-04-2009, 12:33 PM
yeah i could have done better but i mean its not gonna be perfect again. i just decided to be lazy about it. its staying basically how it is. i'm not even replacing the bumpers at this point. i mean the imperfections in the quarter are not really noticable with the satin paint anyway, and i'm happy with the results especially considering that i only spent maybe an hour and a half total on it. and i do appreciate your thoughts on it. i see you're the resident body guy, so i'll take "keep up the good work" as a big compliment! :D hopefully it will quit raining sometime between now and thrusday so i can finish the paint.

yes! mild popularity!! i can't wait to get my tires mounted on the bottlecaps and fix my stance so that it sits proper. going to the tail of the dragon in the prelude on the 18th so i better finish the accord... cause i'll probably end up breaking the prelude and needing a car.

Hondamonster
10-12-2009, 10:04 PM
well i got the tires mounted up! and finished the paint for the upper half of the car. gone through 4 cans so far. a couple spots need touch up and blending and i'm not gonna do the two tone on it. so i figure two more cans should wrap it up. maybe 3... anyways, here's a few randoms of my two happy hondas. the prelude was getting a tire rotation and some fresh mobil 1 before a road trip and running the tail of the dragon this coming weekend. gotta be in good shape! i'm selling it after i get back so i thought i'd snap a couple as a rememberance of the two together

you should put the wheels that are on the lude on the 3geez. i think it would look sex

Hondamonster

i would but they just go too well with the lude. adds value to it. and i'm not too sure about the green/gold on the accord. i have another wheel idea already anyways :)

dude, sweet hondas. I like the ragged look and the tank is a sweet touch. i think the bmw wheels look pretty cool and i was wondering what exactly you had to do to get them to fit. what are "baloons"?

"e30 wheels are like a +25 or +30 offset and i have baloons"-hondamonster

I think he means his wheels are really big in other words they're balloons.

Hondamonster
10-15-2009, 09:41 PM
haha. my tires have a very tall aspect ratio = baloons. kinda like saying low pro tires are rubber bands, big sidewalls look like baloons. and thanks. as far as getting the wheels to fit, nothing had to be done. they're 4x100. but given my big tires and low stance, i rolled my rear fenders. actually got to drive the car around today and the fronts rub under cornering (i.e. body roll) so i'm gonna have to lose the inner fenders and roll the mounting points for them in the front fenders too, cause i'm going at least another inch down ;)

anyway , good work hondamonster breaking out the Louisville for the fender rolling, cheap, effective, and better than renting one of the rollers that potentially will mess the 1/4 up. ive been wondering myself of any bmw wheells would fit with a lower offset

yeah all the old 325i's have 4x100 so the bbs wheels they had optionally should fit too. i still have the accord and everyting but the paint still isn't finished. been driving it every day. my prelude is for sale so i'm waiting to get it out of my driveway before i start spending any more money and working on something else

driving a car while doing alot of bodywork and prep for paint is a real PITA, did it with my olds , worst thing ever to wet sand a big car like that in the winter. least we have smaller cars compared to that.

true. but combined with the lower temps, its raining every day here in tn. that and between lab formals and papers and exams for school and working the rest of my time at autozone all while trying to juggle around family and a girlfriend, its tough to find the time. the prelude's for sale so maybe some funding soon.

getting a bent rim replaced by a buddy who works at a shop. just had to buy and paint another wheel, which was kinda gay. but i'm getting the new one mounted and getting the rotations on all the tires corrected. stupid "tire man" hole-in-the-wall-redneck shop put a couple on backwards. deep treads on one side instead of one axle. next up is the stance... gotta buy a cut-off wheel...

it was too dark to take pics after, but looks to be about 3/4 of an inch lower now. that, and its on a combo of bimmer wheels and a couple different kinds of steelies right now so i'm not sure about how much it actually changed. tomorrow i'm gonna finish everything up suspension wise then i'll schedule an alignment.

no no it has lowering springs, i was just going to trim a coil or so out of the top of them to get it a little lower, but with as much as these tires rub due to their size, amplified by the lower than stock offset of the wheels, i can't really dump it without shaving tire over every minor bump. just leaving them how they are. the pinch fork thing gets the front to drop a bit more without cutting any springs and it allows you to retain shock travel so you don't bottom the shocks out internally when you hit a big bump.

i sprayed it because...

1. i wrecked it, and i just wanted it mostly straight. it wasn't like i was just going to fix/prep/paint one quarter panel with new paint and leave everything else... which leads to...

2. can't afford a full paint job

3. too lazy to actually do a good job prepping the whole car. flat paint hides everything.

4. it cost me $250 bucks. i mean come on. any paint job would have cost me more. probably even if i did it myself.

5. i like standing out.

and it isn't done. but barf if you wish... pretty sure i already said i didn't care about other's opinions. just doing my thing with it and it will at the very least attract attention :)

but man your car is always getting some new crazy addition to it! lol I think the lip is pretty cool but your right it probably will rip off sooner or later. I would clean it up nicely with some all purpose cleaner or something then take a industrial heat gun (blow-drier) to it to get all the "oxidation" off. plastic gets old man but with heat you can make it look like new. and after all that you should paint it black to match your door panel moldings.

thanks for the input. the lip is actually just really dirty. didn't even clean it up from the j/y so its got a bunch of crud on it. i thought about painting it, but it will just get all messed up. this thing bottoms out pretty often so even a good paint job will get scratched, chipped, and peel off from how much it flexes. i think i'll just leave it. i'll change it out sometime anyway. once i find a lip that isn't gonna drag on everything, i'll make it look nice like the moldings. the red sticker is a cherry bomb. new exhaust coming sooooonnnn.... ;)

thanks, and no not a full exhaust, just a muffler. quiet but kinda nice sounding. thought about side piping it haha. i'm thinking a full exhaust would be totally pointless. not enough of a power gain to shake a stick at, and all it does is make the car sound annoying. been through all that with the prelude already. stock exhaust ftw.

Ouch, that sucks big time man :(
i know! had one of my steelies on it just for temporary and its raining like crazy here. the 15'' steelie is actually smaller in overall diameter than the 14'' bottlecaps just because the tires on the white ones are so dang tall, and plus the tire on the steelie is totally bald... so my poor 3gee was hydroplaning really really bad. i was practically driving at a 5 degree angle while going straight.

HELLOOOOO 3geez!

life got busy. and it got cold. cold = f working on the car, cause its cold. that and school, work, girlfriend and such. but i started messing with it again. updates:

front lip was removed. kept tearing my bumper off at the corners when i'd back out of driveways or just drive... in general. plus it scraped too much. hunting for another sooner or later.

wheels are done. you guys are gonna trip ;)

and there's a few more stencil type things strewn around on the exterior. woot.

painting the back bumper (finally) ((hopefully)) tomorrow. weather has been nice!

i'd say flame suit engaged, but when you expect criticism and don't care what people think, you become fireproof. so i'm more than prepared.

no clue. they came with the car uninstalled and i just threw them on for a while. maybe 2 or 3k miles. they ride really smooth. hardly stiffer than stock, maybe 1.5 or 2 inches lower. they handle nice too. nothing extreme or bouncy.

Can you elaborate on the problems with the E30 wheels? There are two different styles on Craigslist for cheap that I thought would look great on a 3g, but after reading around I thought they wouldn't fit a 3g, but yours looked good. How was handling affected by the different offset? Any problems making u-turns with the increased scrub?

---

I like the new wheels with the new stance, especially with the OD, but the cheap white walls need to go ASAP. Ditch the tire paint and you've got a winning combo.

they weren't really that bad but i wanted to go real low and they rubbed a bunch of points in the fender. handling wasn't affected that i could tell at all. and yeah at full lock the tires rubbed the front and back of the fender wells. nothing major, but not good to dump the car on.

i know they peeled guys. they're ultra bald and i just wanted to see what they'd look like. ideally, i want some black tire between the beauty ring and the white wall, and some black tire on the outside of the white too. but that would have required tape and time, and again, they're bald old tires. but thanks for the comments!

Hondamonster
03-30-2010, 09:07 PM
all the way. i'll probably have to cut my mud flaps, because they're already under an inch away from touching the ground just on level pavement.

and in local news, my flex pipe looks like a 15 year old kitty pole in a senile old lady's house. its half torn out, and i drove home with my exhaust hanging at an angle and dragging the ground last night. its going to the exhaust doctor tomorrow to get fixed and tucked up higher so i can get a little closer to terra firma. and finally installing that cherry bomb glass pack... as my sole muffler...

i <3 this car.

the other day at a traffic light i noticed a 50's chevy pickup, flat black, lowered, and rolling on some cragar knock-off wheels pull up next to me. the guy (a dude in his 50's or 60's) stopped short just to sit parallel to my car, stare at it, and blatantly shake his head. i looked over and smiled then he pulled forward the rest of the way. if you have haters, you're doing something right! but so far the general consensus is that its pretty badass. i'm just having fun and making the most of it!

well i have a buttload of actual exhaust leaks from dragging holes in it and such so i can't tell. its just mellow, low, and quietish. no raspy ricey nonsense. and it fits the car nicely.

so my front shocks, at some point between yesterday and tonight, completely blew out. it felt like they had come out of the top hats (if you've ever lowered a honda and forgot the tapered washer on the shock rod) but they're still mounted. just totally blown. so gotta get and install those before sunday morning... and finish a customer's mazda timing belt... and fix an oil leak on another customer's camry... and autozone... and school...

Actually Im not Tim :). Im talking about the grates (BIG ASS STEEL PLATES SOMETIMES AS LONG AS A CAR) that the city of Atlanta loves to put over potholes and manhole instead of just fixing the problem. They eventually get around to it. Ive seen and heard of many people getting blowouts/bent rims, and totaling the car cause they hit so hard the airbags blow and the windshield busts. Just swerve around em if you come up to one, because hitting it is NOT what you want to do lol.

and i still have a bit of travel before the shock bottoms out completely. like i said, top hat mod soon. also doing prelude uca's and altering those so that the balljoint isn't binding at such a severe angle. then the only thing keeping me up will be the tires physically sitting on the fender wells, but the new wheel and tire setup should take care of that ;)

tire on fender action. had to roll them so i could turn the wheel. getting into parking spaces became a 5 point turn... no fun.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0413001847.jpg

and you'll notice that tire isn't white... yeah about those... got back from atlanta (barely) on these
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0413001548.jpg

separated a belt about 80 miles from home and kept driving. carefully. mont eagle mountain on that sucker was un-nerving.
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0413001518.jpg

so i grabbed some e30 steelies from the barn with decent tires on them and painted em tan. and yeah, i washed off the chalk. new look

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0415001744a.jpg

but washing off the chalk just means i have a clean slate to work with!
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r63/hondahutch/0413002055.jpg

thought this was pretty hilarious... get it?

sitting in a puddle, down for a bit. ( i live in tennessee and we're getting flooded hardcore.) as low as the car is, i wouldn't be suprised if water got into the interior. back yard got a bit deep. haven't waded back there to look at it yet though

Damn dude that sucks. I know how much you hate to go look at it after it's been sitting in the water for so long. Happened to my car a couple years ago. Flooded my floors, and somehow killed my power window switches, probably just from the moisture. Gotta take care of it quick though before it starts molding!
