View Full Version : What's the best tire size for a 3g?

Also, what size are the '00+ Si's and GSR Fat-Fives? I have P195/60R14 85T's on my car right now that were $14.99 a piece, so I have absolutely no traction. I'm looking to either get the GSR's or Si's, but I'm not sure yet. Or, a pair of both. :) Maybe some bronzed Fat-Fives, but that might clash with the color of my purse- er, car.

Again, two main questions:
What's the best tire size for a 3g?
What size are the '00+ Si's and GSR Fat-Fives? (I have 14's)

Another question: Has anyone tried the Fit wheels on one of our cars?

195/50/15 or 205/50/15. they both work great. 205 is a bigger footprint better for auto cross.

Will those tires fit both Si's and GSR's? What are some good (& cheap) tire models?

Rendon LX-i
09-15-2009, 05:29 PM
yea the gsr's and si's are the same offset and size. so they both fit.....i would personaly go with a 205 charlie. looks more clean and handles a whole lot better...yet the 195 works good to. Cheap tire you can prolly get a falken, khumo for around 50/60 a piece new. my brother got a set of falken Ziex ze-912 for 44 a piece im like holly shit lol.....

http://www.falkentire.com/media/tires/2/tire.jpg

These are the tires...but what ever fits you man...shop around. 15s can vary in price depending what you want....I like the falken good all season. kinda LOL but handles great

Yup, Rendon is right about the sizing... I am running a 195/50/15... 205's will work well though too.

My dad's tire guy got me 195 60 r15's for my car.... That kinda made me irritated. He only got 1, but after I kinda bitched, he threw in a used one the exact same for free. I think 195 55 R15's would be better, cuz my speedometer reads 80 when I'm doing 77 with my 50's in the front.

the honda fit wheels have a crazy high offset it's like 55... they tuck in a lot more, honda did this on the fit to improve the economy while still using a bigger wheel. so if you want to lower the car and tuck the wheels the fit wheels are great for that, but on a non slammed car they look weird from the front and back.

is a 205- 70- 14 a good fit on these cars? when i get financially back on my feet, I really want the BF goodrich radial TA tires with the raised while letters. I've looked at hundreds of tires and I think with the hatchie in panda these would look killer, very old school 80's

09-16-2009, 11:54 PM
i guess the best standard tires for the car is 195 60 r14 as that what the sticker in my door jamb says thats the oem side they come with on factory rims. i currently have 195 65 r14 on the rear and 195 60 r14 on the front, so my back wheels are larger for extra towing height:)

so what is the difference between the size I posted and the original 14's? taller, wider? i hate trying to figure out tire aspect ratios. will they fit with no problems?

i think forrest tried 70/14 tires on his old 3gee and said they were too tall

stat1K
09-17-2009, 07:23 AM
70's fit if the car isn't lowered... if they're 205's and 70 and lowered they would probably rub on the rear... depending on the offset of the wheel. but in a normal offset i'd say they'd rub.

yeah i like 55 series tires, i'm running 195/60r14's on my civic with a 2" drop and the rears are close to the wells but that's because the civic is like the accord and with drop springs the back is lower than the front.

so they will rub at stock height? i think i have an old bf goodrich radial TA at that size already, i could have it mounted to one of these rims and see how it looks as far as clearance. lowering the car around here is out of the question, we already have railroad crossings and driveways that want to rip off the exhaust at stock height. :uh:

Ive got 14's, 15's, 16's, 17's and 18's. I think i get by far a better mileage count with the 14's. they are steelies and smaller and probably lighter rolling than the rest of my rims. The 15's I had were really poor offset so they would rub on the rear quarters. I was dropped 2.5 and running 205 series rubbers. It rode ok but had rim chioce was poor. The 16's are super lites with prada spec 2 and I think they ride awesome unless your cornering. They tend to wash out a bit if your pulling really hard in the corners. The 17's were a good balance between performance and ride quality. The 18's i love with 35 series tires and the look is just to die for. They are on the coupe as you saw it.

14x185 inch steelies with federal rubber
15x205in kmc rims with cooper tires
16x215in millie rims with prada spec 2 rubbers
17x205in falken ziex 326
18x215in zyoxx rims with toyo F4 rubbers
have tried almost any high performance tire and the best for me so far are a set of BFG as ultra high performance tires. they are nearly $400 a piece and worth every penny.

All sizes are proper to ssustain proper wheel diameter. i forget what the rear sidewall dimension is off hand. If you want to try a set let me know. Ill make a small trade with you for the ones you have now maybe. or just try them for a few weeks. NO BURNOUTS

hey what would be the difference between 185/80-14 and 195/60-14? I MIGHT have found someone selling skinny whites brand new in that size, we need to move the car out of the garage to work on it, and the old tires are toast from sitting. will probably be a few weeks but he's selling all four new for 185, couldn't find a raised white letters or skinny whites,so i started searching under lowrider stuff and jack pot. Back in the day rolling on skinny whites was the thing!! all the way from the 70's through the end of the eighties.

depends on the wheel lost, 205's will fit, at stock height i'd imaging a 70 would fit, but in conjunction with the 205 it will be close. i'd stick with like 205/60r14, but as long as you're in honda offset +33 or so you should be fine.

i honestly don't think si 7s look as good as the fat 5s. but of course, might depend on your color and drop. ppl with fat fives always love to upgrade to si 7s, so fat fives may be easier to come by in some locals. kid i bought my fat 5s from had done just that and he told me he spent $125 each just for the center caps from dealer i was like :eek5:

those integra wheels must be a 40 offset thats what's listed for all aftermarket rims for them. let me look up the prism ones

lostforawhile

strange the integra says it will fit the 205 70 14's , with the same offset and running the same 195-60 14's that i'm running now, is it the wishbone thats the problem? looks like a lot of space between it and the tire. that's also running the factory wheels i have, the new wheels are the same offset and size as the tegs.

so they fit well? no rubbing? the width between those and the ones i want to run is identical, the only difference is the height, it would be 42 mm overall circumference difference, if you think of the tire as a square, that would be just over ten mm per side. what is the offset and the rim width of the SEI rims?

yeah it will fit under the car and stick out 2.2 inches farther than the stock 14 rim. But rub probably when you lock to lock the steering wheel. you would have to ru na rim with a +20 or lower offset to get it away from the front knuckes and rear trailing arm.

15's seem to be the best compromise between comfort, looks and performance.
i run 205/50 /15 on mine 3g and 5g Sir and they are great.
just got some dunlop direzza DZ101's for the Sir in that size and i dont think i'

the dunlops are much quieter, more comfortable and have far more grip than the kumho.
the price may be a bit ore, but well worth it.
oh, and on a 3g, the speedo is still accurate to within a few km/h

...... what is the offset and the rim width of the SEI rims?

I measured one, but I actually don't know how they measure a wheel's width. Taking a tape across the entire width of the wheel gets 6 5/8". On the inside, the flanges move apart slightly as they go "up," but it would appear that 5 1/2" is the inside width.

anyone know if a 175-70-15 would fit? if it did if i ever get the freaking money, like an armored truck falls out of the sky, Hoosier quick time DOT drag race tires will fit, they look completely bad ass on old hondas with the big Hoosier in white letters on the sidewall. that was THE tire to run when racing these cars. they are street legal, I just wouldn't want to drive them in the rain. http://www.jegs.com/i/Hoosier/522/17010QT/10002/-1

according to the tire size calculator the speedo would only be off 3 mph.
