I found this on Preludepower

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320643

some of you have been looking for round plastic headed valet keys that will work in the single cut locks found on many 3rd gens.

well, they exist, but you have to know how to shop for them.

here's the keys to my old 89 Si with a brand new valet blank:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2448/3928924132_426fba4c2c.jpg

the part number is 35114-SD4-J01 (listed as a 'sub-key' in the catalog). they MSRP for $7.78 and honda says there are 19 left in the Chino, CA warehouse (at the moment). your local dealer can order them singularly, so if they tell you they have to buy a box of 25, tell them there isn't a box 25 left to buy, and you'll take just the one.

why they are difficult to track down:
they were supplied with all the 2nd gen preludes, but the catalog only shows the 89 model in the 3rd gen. (88 got the big metal head key, the 90-91 lists the double cut keys)

it appears the catalog is screwed up, since it shows 90-91 having valets that matches double cut (90 and up) accords, but masters that match single cut (89 and down) accords. i'm 95% sure that my 91 has a single cut key, and once i verify it does, i'm going to talk to one of our dealer analysts and see if i can get this issue resolved.

there you go, friends....now, please stop lumping all the parts people at all the dealerships into the same "those guys don't know jack shit" category.

I might do that today. How many do you want Carotman? I want a Valet key for my 2gee. Wanna keep them out of my trunk and glovebox when I park it at fancy restaurants and hotels. You know they see the Accord and go rooting for riches! How do you get the key cut if you don't already have a valet key?

I want 3 keys!

You don't need an actual valet key to have it cut. The dealer will cut the key according to your key code.

The only difference between the regular and valet key is the tip

Wow, you think my 2gee will have a key code? Did they do that stuff that long ago? I had a dealer cut me a key for my Miata when I lost the key to it (they gave me the code over the phone, sketchy!).

Yup, I'm sure your 2g has a key code. It's stamped on the OEM key (like in the picture). If not, the dealer can get it from the VIN

OK Carotman. I ordered 4. 3 for you and 1 for me. :) They'll get to my dealer next Friday and then I'll get them up to you. He said there were "tons" of them available, and doesn't know why someone said there are 17 left... Either way we've got some.

Wish I still had my OEM key. Damn. But looks like it can be cloned from the regular key, so I'll give that a shot I guess! :)

I guess I should feel special. I have both original master keys and the original (unused) valet key. That and $2.00 will buy me a cup of regular coffee at Starbucks.

I hate valet parking. Takes too long to get the car back. They never park my car up front!

Me, too. Except with the first coupe. And, I had two valet keys. And the "locking" lug nuts. And...

That and $2.00 will buy me a cup of regular coffee at Starbucks.

What the fuck? WHAT'S YOUR SECRET!? I <3 Starbucks!

It's an 80's Honda, what can you expect? Very few people (meaning just us on the board) want to see an 80's Honda parked in front of The Embassy.

Where are you from again? A drip is like $1.70. Quit drinking that foo-foo bullshit, and drink some real coffee and you don't have to pay so much! :bowrofl:

I live like 40 miles from you. Soy de Renton. I know, it's expensive here. It's better than Tully's and those crackhead coffee stands.

You should check out Spanaway. There are like 20 Bikini Baristas in a row out there. And then one legit coffee shop that has NO business. Just try not to get shot.

You should check out Seattle. It's hard to drive two blocks without seeing a Starbucks.

WOOOOT

Thanks. I still have my OEM keys + the valet key. I just want to make spares. Illco keys suck.

I could make a valet key for the hatch but it would only prevent access to the glovebox lol.

Coupe has no key now, I can't find it. I'm going to rekey with my rebuilt cylinders from the sedan.

Right there with you on the valet parking. I hate giving the keys to someone else. Don't know what they'll do with it while they have it. Then I get to pay for the privilege of them bringing it back. Sheesh.

Just looked at the parts diagram here (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=PRELUDE&catcgry2=1989&catcgry3=2DR+2.0SI&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=COMBINATION+SWITCH). What's a "Sub-key"?

I think it's that ghetto one-use plastic key that you hide somewhere on your car.

I don't know for you guys but I prefer to have an OEM key. It's all in the little details.

I still have the OEM original keys from my sedan and the hatchback. I'm keeping those as a backup and use the newly cut ones.

I may make a valet key for the hatch so the glovebox is a secure area in valet parkings.

I keep one clean, original key that I do not use as a master if I ever need copies. Paul, a "sub key" is just Honda's terminology for the valet key. That's odd because what I call my valet key has a round head like the sub-key in the diagram. I haven't seen one that looks like the "valet key" in the picture. My sub key unlocks the doors and starts the car, but does not unlock the trunk, glovebox, back seat, or trunk/fuel door release. I don't know if I have EVER locked the glovebox.
