Aside from the ghoulish wheels, emblems, and steering wheel, what do you guys think? I'd swap my good tranny into it, my body is trash and my car is carbed. Also, will a carbed car tranny go into a fuel injected car?

Carb'd tranny will go right in. It's practically the same. I dunno if $600 is worth it. The headlights are up, which might indicate that they're stuck and need a controller or are having an electrical problem. Also, they look like those crappy eBay projectors that you will have to replace if you don't want to die at night... I'd at least take a couple hundred bucks off the price.

why are those projectors bad? And what do you guys think its worth? I'm Canadian, keep in mind, so $600 to me is $500 to you.

Nothing wrong with that car for $600 man ,The members in the states get spoiled with thier rust free car for low prices. We usally get a pile of rust for that kind of price.

It looks pretty good for $500 (us). Those projectors are pretty lame though, $20 or less for the pair on ebay and not very strong from what i have seen. but besides that it looks good ^_^ i would go for it considering i paid only $100 less for my pos when i bought it

I'm waking up early tomorrow to take them off. Whats really funny is the blue LED dome light. And the 8-inch steering wheel with the cruise control piece ziptied on.

It's only 600 bucks so it's a decent price for that car.

They say it's an 87 (bullshit) but has probably been in an accident or something. It's been repainted for sure.

Here's what I see that doesn't match:

1- 88-89 Trunklid
2- 88-89 Tail lights
3- 88-89 Rear bumper
4- 86-87 moldings on the front driver door but 88-89 on the rest of the car.
5- Painted top for the front bumper. Will probably peel/crack.
6- DX (Manual) vent controls ?!?!?!
7- 88-89 Side Vent levers
8- 88-89 Black/tan interior
9- 88-89 Backglass. The 87 backglass has the defrost stripes really visible around the 3rd brake light.

So, this tells me the car has been hit in the front and was repaired with an 86-87 front end. This car is in fact an 88-89.

Of course, it could be an 87 but has all these things swapped too.

It seems Ok but I would expect some surprises.

Badges are all of now, and I'm changing the steering wheel back tomorrow before work. I have to replace the combo switch too anyway.

Civic Accord Honda
10-16-2009, 02:33 AM
hmm well yeah thats an 88-89 with 86-87 bumper. grill eyelids and corner lights but that makes it look even better ;) IMO! so u got the perfect match since the 88-89 puts out more power and u get the front look of the 8687 which looks better XD

glad to hear you got the badges off tho man thoes were LOL

but why swap the steering wheel? looks like its probaly more comfortable/ easier turning without hitting legs XD

canadian357
10-16-2009, 02:35 AM
I dunno. The wheel is just so painfully ugly and protrusive.

10-16-2009, 02:54 AM
lol yes it was.. is it orange or red?

thats weird that it's fuel injected but the climate control in the dash looks like it's from an DX

canadian357
10-16-2009, 03:03 AM
its red. I like the shape and feel of the shift knob in the car but i need to take it out and paint it or get a new one with different colors. Anyone have any ideas of where to add a bit more black to my interior?

carotman
10-16-2009, 04:35 AM
I have a tan center console/armrest if you're interested.

In fact, I got a tan se-i interior so...

This car is an 1988 since it has no shiftlock.

Check the serial number to make sure it says 1988.

CAH, the 86-87 front doesn't belong on an 88-89 (and vice versa)

Carotman - how much do you want for it with shipping to edmonton?

carotman
10-16-2009, 11:24 AM
Just pay the shipping and we're set.

They would end up in the garbage sooner or later anyway.

I'll find a box for them.

The armrest is a bit ripped where you would put your elbow from years of use and the cheap leather.

I got 2 sets so I'll send the cleanest. No cupholders tough, the previous owner destroyed that part :(

You seem to need the ashtray too :)

I also got a tan cover for the expansion hole beside the cuise control switch that I'll throw in.

If you need anything else, let me know, it's free. Tan seatbelts? Leather door inserts? 6X9 speaker pods?

canadian357
10-16-2009, 11:39 AM
Wow thanks man thats awesome. The leather door inserts would be great. I have the ashtray, it was in the glove box. So i just checked the VIN, it is infact an 87, however, that slippery little bastard didnt mention that this was a rebuilt status car. So your honest opinions - what should I do? Ask for some of my money back, sue the guy, return the car, or what? I don't wanna dive into my tranny swap and then realize that I should just take the car back.

carotman
10-16-2009, 11:48 AM
87?

The car screams 1988 all over the place.

The ONLY thing from 1987 from this car is the bumper/grille/trims and the door molding.

Remove the raintray and check the firewall area from the inside. Pay special attention where the serial number is punched. It could be an 1988 with 1987 serial numbers. Make sure all 3 serial numbers match too :p (dash, firewall and door). The firewall will show welding marks somewhere unless it's been really well hidden.

The manufacture date is printed on the bottom of the door plate. If it's an 1987, it could have been made from 08-1986 to 07-1987, an 88 would be 08-1987 to 07-1988.

My 89 Accord was made in 08-1988 and my 87 was made in 08-1986 :D

The gauge cluster is from an 88-89. In 86-87, the parking brake warning light just says BRAKE (like in the US) while in 88-89 you had the pictograms (P)(!)

I'm sure it's an 1988 with serials from an 1987 to make it pass inspection from the salvage title.

Who on earth (besides me) would put an ENTIRE interior/engine/dashboard/wiring/trims/trunk/backglass/doors/rear bumpers from an 1988 Accord on a 1987?? The dashboard serial number would have been swapped from the 1987 dash to the 1988 too.

This doesn't mean it's a bad car in any way. Just that someone messed with it before.

Oh, I noticed the combo switch for the headlights is an 86-87.

The 86-87 has a light bulb pictogram on the arm while the 88-89 has the standard "high beam" pictogram.

What's the defrost switch like? Does it stays down when you press it? (like the headlight retractor switch) or does it come back to it's original position?

Edit:

It's the other way around. I don't kknow that I was smoking :p 88-89 is light bulb, 86-87 is "high beam"

You sir, have a talent for this stuff. i mean I knew the taillights were 88-89, but thats about it. As for the interior swap, I tried to do it a few months ago but couldnt find a complete interior lol.

SOOOO, I got to firewall vin. Doesn't match. I so prayed that I had escaped my 3 in a row spree of 1988 cars, but the firewall tells me otherwise. Dash vin is: JHMCA5637HC806824, firewall is JHMCA5641JC802850. Dunno where the door numbers are.

carotman
10-16-2009, 02:13 PM
Firewall is 1988... what a surprise. Not matching VINS is a real problem for the police.
Open the front driver door, you'll see that blue plate unless it's been removed, which is illegal.

I would get my money back ASAP and run away...

I think what I'm gonna do is demand he does a full inspection at CAA and make that conditional to my keeping the car. That way, if I don't like what I see, I have a way out. What do you think? Lol the worst part about this is I've wanted a black LX-i with the black and tan interior since I got my 3gee a year and a half ago :(

carotman
10-16-2009, 02:52 PM
well, even if the CAA inspect it, the car has mismatched numbers. The number that counts is the one on the firewall/door jamb. The dash can always be swapped easily.

Find someone with a carfax account and check what happened to the 1988 number.

The 1988 is from an EX-i and the 1987 is from an LX. This explains the base model fan controls.
