I've been doing some more work on my center console again, There are two kinds of consoles factory, one is the one piece console that comes in the SEI, and the other is the two piece console that fits over the ebrake cover. The main problem with the two piece console, is that it's weak where the arm rest attaches to the base, I solved this on mine by removing the plastic feet on the bottom of the arm rest and making an aluminum bracket to attach the two halves together.

This is the bottom side of the plate

this is the top side under the trim

this, combined with a bottom mounting that's a lot stronger, makes the armrest much sturdier

you can see the plate between the halves

I ended up recovering the armrest again, this is the same material that will be on the top edges of the doors. the foam was shot,so they got refoamed

the inside is four pieces, the piece that holds the switches, the aluminum plate it attaches too, that forms the box for them and the map light, a wooden spacer that's milled out, for the wires inside of the arm rest, and an upholstered plastic piece that forms the floor of the armrest.

interesting project there. Do you have two alternators for all these new gadgets you're running? What kind of actuator or "popper" are you using for the hatch and gas door?

I really shouldn't be pulling that much more current, as far as the actuators, I've had a solenoid I found in a junkyard for years in the hatch, works fine and easy to put in, the gas door one was one i found in a buick trunk, it's under the drivers seat attached to the original cable. I could have used one of those plastic geared actuators in the hatch, but that's also my emergency backup in case the door locks fail, so i wanted something bulletproof. this let me get rid of the ugly floor levers.

With all that GPS stuff out there, I'm impressed that you are installing or have already installed a map light. Is there a TCAS installation in your future?

May your followers be blessed with spatial disorientation on foggy nights.:flash:they aren't too bad, pre strobe light, just the red lamps mounted low facing back, not much more wattage then a brake lamp. these are probably 1960's era lamps, i have a bin full of them, plus lots of spare bulbs the bulbs are like 40 bucks each at aircraft spruce

i can agree with the gas door and hatch pop switches , but the "anti aircraft collision lights" ..... starting to get into the realm of :rice: IMO

more done, i added nut plates to the center console piece also, this makes them a lot stronger then having the screws from the armrest go right into the plastic. These armrests must have been installed from the dealer aftermarket. i'm changing lock -unlock buttons, so i have to make a new trim plate for the button. I'm not sure what it's out of but it looks better then what I had. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/moultriemanicmechanic/S4020218.jpg

IMO still the lights look :rice:well i've never seen a ricemobile with these before, never even seen a car with them before. last time I checked rice was buying crap from walmart and sticking it all over your car and driving around with a giant fart can muffler and big wing. since when has custom stuff been rice? to each their own opinion I guess. I create original stuff, I don't follow the trend of put something on a car just because someone else did and I don't have the brain cells to come up with something different. I was modifying Hondas before it was even cool to do so. Some of the stuff I came up with in the late eighties and early nineties was copied by a lot of people in the Atlanta area. I will never be a ricer, I don't follow trends. If I had a dollar for every person who told me, why did you fix up a stupid Honda? buy a Mustang or something!! ..............................

defination of ricer
"ricer 1299 up, 231 down
Ricer - Any person who adds tasteless modifications to a perfectly normal automobile.
"
" Ricer 610 up, 97 down
Someone regardless of ethnicity with any vehicle regardless of type that put money into the cosmetics of their vehicle instead of performance and treats it as though it will beat anything it up against.
"

and imo on ricer
anyone who adds useless items to there car... i consider myself a ricer as i like stickers and fart cans lol

btw theres a diffrence in Ricer and Ricer trash imo
ricer trash = stock engine lots of useless exterior mods IE wings, fart cans on stock pipes , altezzas...

Ricer = modded engine with balls and useless exterior mods such as fart cans and stickers body kits etc... lol

but imo people should do as they please to there cars and not be labled :)

imo tims car is more of the Rat Rod style if i were to lable it wouldnt be rice.. lol

well i've got it all apart, now i need to repaint the part at the front where the altimeter is, i'll have some pictures in a while. I also need to fill some no longer needed holes. time to break out the plastic repair compound. I decided to reinstall the nice analog cell phone mount I had made, i'm going to mount an ipod dock to it. I'm putting in a hard wired fm modulator with a switching system between the ipod and the xm radio. It should sound a lot better then the non hardwired setup now. I'm not too concerned about the loss of quality with a modulator, the difference would be hard to hear over the glass pack anyway.

My center console is bouncing in the trunk... it's broken where you installed the aluminum plate. I've been looking for a sturdy piece of plastic to cut to size and stick it in there but no luck yet.

BTW, I like the modded console of yours; the rear lighter and light are a nice touch for those riding in the back. I always teased friends that riding in the back seat of hatchies/coupes was like walking in the desert with nothing to do (and in some cases, to see) but it is not going to be the case in yours.

the back lighter is my only lighter, there's other stuff where the old one used to be.
here's the other center console piece. it has a plate over the instruments thats covered in leather. I'm probably going to do the radio blank out plate ,where the choke knob and fuel psi gauge are, in the same leather. it just needs something different. There are also leather pieces that fit where the coin trays are.

I also changed the polished aluminum where the gauges were, to flat black

Ok I made the first leather trim piece for the side, this started off as pieces of tape on the side of the console and pencil lines, the tape was transferred to the aluminum sheet, and a pattern was made. The first was the most difficult, as it had to be modified to work, the second is a mirror image of the first, so it's a lot easier. after the aluminum was cut out and drilled,it was wrapped in the same leather as the other pieces i've made. it's attached with push clips. after the console is attached back into the car, the trim goes over the screw holes. I'm going to make another piece to go over the back section of the console, thats going to be the same tan leather as the door panels. Now I just have to remember where i put the original upholstery scraps. the holes in the console are where the dock piece attaches

I agree. I could use a lot of words to describe Lost's car: eccentric, idiosyncratic, funky, and possibly even kooky, but rice would not be one of them.

Looks amazing Lost!
