So I have a neighbor who dated a guy in his early 50's who said he has a 1988 Honda Accord LX-i for sale. I asked him about it a little more and he let me stop by and check it out. This LX-i has a primer paint job but the body seems to be rust free and straight. Also the vehicle is missing a muffler, where did it go? I have no clue. The interior seems like its in decent shape and hasn't been abused.

I have not test drove the vehicle but he did start it up right in front of me. As far as I know now which is a month or two later it needs a new battery and muffler. He is asking $500 cash for the vehicle and it also has new tires. Is this vehicle worth purchasing? This will be my first 3geez so I need some guidance.

sounds like the price is most certainly right
i would take it for a test drive before purchasing it though

He also told me I get a warranty for like 1-3 months. I forget exactly the amount of time but if the car screws up in that time period I get a complete refund.

yeah man I paid 300 for my 87 lxi and it was in a lot worse shape than that one...just keep in mind the age of the car so you'll be workin on it off and on...ask the guy if he's got any service records...you could throw one of those cheap ass maaco jobs on it to paint it for now

I paid 1200$ for mine..

88' LX, automatic, carb'd

But it was owned by a mechanic who did alot of work and put alot into it, but it hasn't had any major problems so I think mine was worth it...

Anyway 500$ for it is a great price especially if it's all primed and ready for paint, I'd go for it if it ran good and didn't have major leaks or smoke, etc..

No, it's a bad deal, stay away. As a matter of fact, give me the guy's phone number. I'll call him and buy it mysel--, uh.. I mean reprimand him for trying to rip you off, yea :)

lol. Sounds like a great deal from the way you describe. I'm envious.

Not to thread jack, but is a 89 lxi worth a grand??? It has a newer paint job cuz it was faded, a 5 speed and sunroof, not to mention all the power options... Not sure on maintenence, but it has around 200k on the clock... Looking at getting a sedan, and this is one of the better ones I've found... What do you guys think???

You can get a whole exhaust from most shops for about $150 with a nice muffler. I paid $115 for a flexpipe-back system with a turbo muffler, and I don't like those turbo mufflers, so I put a Flowmaster on it later.

sounds decent to me, especially if the body is straight (and matching). i paid $1300 for my 88 lx-i two years ago.

Black hatch 450 needed tires, clutch cv axel, paint

Tan hatches 2 for $250 one no motor one no tranny , one good body , one dented fender both perfect paint (almost)

Black coupe $300 new tires, cracked windsheild, wrecked in front. "rebuilt" engine

Imo if it drives well, shifts well, and doesn't smoke or knock. that is a great deal

$500 sounds great! These cars are fighters. I paid $1,250 for mine and it was near mint condition!
