And it's white! I love having connections with the right people.

It has the straightest body I've every seen.

Only paid $220 for it and a parts Sidekick. It might run, but it's an A1 motor and an Auto tranny, sooooooo.... I'm gonna have to strip mine out!

They should be a direct swap (I know the dash is at least).

I hate you right now though. Just thought I'd share that.

I am searching high and low for a White hatch (preferably an 88-89 LX-i, 5-spd), but the absolute necessity is that it's straight, clean and rust free. ...and that looks to fit the bill.

Congrats. Now get your bass in there and I promise you you'll never go back. The hatch has by far the best acoustics of any 3G out there (except for maybe the Aerodeck, but I don't know for sure).

brings back memories, on the interior only 86-87 parts will fit 86-87 and 88-89 parts will fit 89. the older seats won't interchange with the newer seats, unless you swap tracks and do a lot of work, the later seats have the belt attached to them, and have double track locks and one track is totally different.

Nice score. I, like Mark, have been looking for a hatch for awhile. Let us say that they do not come up (exist?) around here in that condition.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. My Tow-truck driver gets these 3g's just about 3 a week, and he said he crushed a yellow Hatch that looked a little better than this one, but it had PERFECT black interior, just last week... I just about got emotional... There is no room for these anywhere when he gets them, so he just has them crushed. It makes me pretty mad, but I can't have a junkyard here...

My green one is an 87 and the hatch is an 87, so everything should fit, apart from the door panels being a different color. DAVE!

I'm really happy I got a hatch. I like the look of them, and I really wanted the hatch, because like Mark said, it's got great acoustics. My ~142db system in my trunk will be a ~145db just from it being a hatch, plus I'm gonna make a box that will use the hatch better than a regular ported box.

I was wanting an 88-89 5speed LXI, myself, but this is a good start. It will be way faster than a stock 88 LXI 5spd hatch when I'm done with it.

I'll be done with it by the first of the year. If I didn't have sooooooo much to do before I could get to the Honda's, it would be done by next week. lol

DUDE!! i really f'n hate you right about now!!! White DX hatch with blue interior is the exact the 3g i want to buy! ... I refuse to get one with the ugly maroon interior which i see in most of them... But damn looks really clean and fresh! cant wait to see this car when its done!

I wish there was more I could do for the interior, but I'm not an interior guy and the seats (all 4 of them) are in REALLY bad shape, and the dash is worse than the one in my green rig. At least the carpet is in good shape, rather than the one that's half-tore up in the green one.

Thanks, Hash. There is a lot of insperation here that I will be using. I checked the rear upper ball joints and they felt really good! I guess the previous owner was a reallllllly old man with money, and he loved his car. Soooooo.... Don't be hatin'! lol

Thanks for the offer, Mkwc, but I think I'm gonna use my grey interior.

check JC whitney, they have permanent custom fit seat covers that attach with hog rings, you would order a set specifically for your car, you can leave the original upholstery in place or remove it before installation. a set will have both front seats and a back seat piece to fit the back

Well, some of the cushin from the rear seats are torn out for some reason.the top or bottom cushions? I'm sure someone on here knows where there is a hatch at a yard, if they remove the foam it shouldn't cost anything to ship. if the foam has been exposed to UV light, it will harden and crack really quick. it turns that dark yellow color.

QTF :eek5:
What's that? Quoted The Facts or something different?

The sedan is in pretty rough shape and I'll probably give it to my tow-truck driver after I strip most of what I want out of it.

I just remembered last night that I have a BLUE sedan (it might be an 88 or 89, though...) that has really good seats and maybe some of the dash. I'll have to look real quick.

I was really excited to hear "The body is reallllly damn straight, but there's no battery," then I saw it...:eek5:

The bumpers are way faded. I'll use my heat technique and see if I can make it look better, but if I can find white 88-89 bumpers, they will be on mine!

go to nappa, get several cans of that flexible bumper primer, the nappa pro brand, clean the bumpers really good, prime them with several coats, then wet sand the primer,it will sand super slick. now use some of that GM off white if you want white bumpers, the spray bombs, it's really close to greek white, which is what you have, probably NH 82 or something like it, as far as I know all white hatchbacks are greek white, other wise know as malox white, I think they are the only hondas in that color, I've heard rumors the color came from one of mr. Hondas old race cars,or one of the formula cars. In Japan the race cars are traditionally white. click on my site, look at the side bar, and click on pictures of the paint so far, full size full resolution of fresh Greek white, I used the factory color.

Got a little more time with it today. Tried to turn it over and it went Ruuh clunk clunk, ruuh clunk clunk, so I'm pretty sure it threw a t-belt. Oh well. I'll see if I can save anything from it, but now I'm pretty sure the tranny and brand-new carb worked perfectly before it broke down.

I'll maybe try to get it in the shop today and get it ready to pull the engine; then I can start cleaning it all up... Maybe I should pull the A3 out of mine before the A1... I don't know...

I looked harder at the interior, and the seats look really damn comfortable, so I may try to find the covers Lost suggested.

I'm really happy that it's still got the fog-light vents. I lost those on my sedan about a week after I started modding it.

The blue sedan has a good dash, except that it's been PAINTED!!! DAMN IT! and it was painted by some boy-ricer and there is over-spray on the parts they didn't want to paint... SOB... And the seats don't look very good. The hatch's seats look way more comfortable than the blue sedan's... I might look through a couple junkyards and salvage some good interior parts.

I love the look of the 88-89 bumpers, so I might just paint mine the same way.

Civic Accord Honda

i just dont like how the 88-89 front bumper looks with the 8687 rear... however all thats made for hatchs is 8687 rear no such thing as a 88-89 rear bumper style as hatchs never got facelifted bumpers...
and clear bumper lights are ricer lol

nice bass man...did you remove the vac lines???

Bass Man
11-28-2009, 11:56 PM
It's gonna have my A3 with the A1 intake and Weber in it, so all the vacuums are gonna be gone. Unlike the CRX, everything I did tonight is completely reversable... At this time... All the plastic wire brackets are in 1 piece (reusable... ;)) and ALL the vacuum lines are un-cut. lol

Next time I work on it, I'll take the bumper and drivers fender off so I can really get after it! I might try to paint the bumper at the same time.

Bass Man

Mount optama battery next to the sub box?
I might just run my battery by my subs with a sealed battery box with a vent-tube, but it's gonna take a lot of weight from the front and put it in the back, which is the last thing I want to do, but I'll either be the fastest or the loudest, so I might just put the battery in the back...:dunno:

That means I'll need a shut-off switch for the battery accessable from the rear if I want to race this summer.... Damn it.

After all this work to clean up the engine bay, I think I might just take the power steering setup out.

tell me what you need i have all the pop up light wiring diagrams etc. I don't see a way to do sleepy eyes, unless you rig a limit switch halfway up and some relay circuits to change that to the default limit switches. there are two limit switches per light motor, one for up and one for down. you would interupt the up limit switch with a double pole double throw relay, if the relay has power it closes and changes the limit switch to the one you added and it goes into downs syndrome mode.

I was having a though as I was removing all this stuff... I sure am removing a lot of weight in the front, and adding a LOT of weight in the back... Think I might keep the fuse panel and battery in the front, but I might make a bracket that will go on the firewall instead of the funky place it was... Well... Maybe... The paint is gone and it's a little rusted under the old tray, so I might just put it back where it was. It's gonna look a lot better than it did, but I'll know there is a lot of extra wires taken out of there.

I asked my tow truck driver to look out for a 2dr or 3dr with nice blue interior. I'll probably have a pristine interior. Now I just gotta study the dash and see how the factory installed it, cuz that's always the fastest way.

It didn't come with cruise-control, which suprized the hell out of me!

lostforawhile
12-01-2009, 05:19 PM
the dx cars never came with factory cruise, i've seen a few but it was probably added later,it's a pain in the ass to add it too. you have to do things like take the instrument cluster all apart and add a missing diode, the missing lamp and icon, also add the missing connection on the harness coming out of the cluster for the speed sensor and the indicator lamp add the entire harness from scratch. you also have to swap your pedals to cruise control pedals, the arm that operates the gas pedal is part of that assembly. you also need the brake switch from the cruise car, it has an extra circuit. then the cruise actuator, the control box, switch, etc.

lostforawhile
12-01-2009, 05:23 PM
no power locks in the hatch either, the power actuator will attach right to the latch mechanism, just like a sedan, but surprise surprise, the hatch is missing the door beam notch, that gives the clearance for the motor. you have to use aftermarket actuators

Bass Man
12-01-2009, 05:25 PM

yea sounds like a rebadged lx, the dx cars have nothing, just back to basic cars, i like them for just that reason, the interior is much cleaner looking and more traditional honda. the seat belts attached to the doors thing looks like a pain in the ass. it's possible those cars if they were a dx, had the cruise added as a factory optional item. in other words someone with money.

I'll go to the exhaust shop tomorrow and get some supplies. As much as I don't like doing exhaust work, I seem to be doing a helluva lot of it for people and I'm getting better. I'll spend $40 in supplies and save myself $50!

i'm so frikken excited for you because I know (from personal experience) how happy you'll be with the insane acoustics of your new ride. That sedan can't hold a candle to your hatchie. I had a pair of JL 10W3v2's (4ohm DVC) in a PowerWedge powered by an Alpine V12 MRF-757 (i think that's the model #) which fired on an angle toward the lower glass on that hatch. I went to a db shootout and had ppl completely dumbfounded when they heard it bump and saw only a pair of 10's. (Db was not my scene. my system was built for Sound-Q, but I did it just to show up and bump a lil. The real candy was in my mids/highs [Boston Acoustic Pro compoonents 6.5's front and back (ouch), Alpine v12 MRV-357 (4ch) and Eclipse 55430 deck on a pair of 8-disc changers (don't forget this was like 8-10 years ago)]

Oh man I'm excited for you. Are you going to end up putting the fuse box in the glove compartment?

Bass Man
12-03-2009, 01:51 PM
Boston was and still is the shit and I would love to own anything they make. The Power wedges were nice, too.

The box is gonna be an older style CRX-type box. I say old, cuz the new CRX style is Subs forward, port back. Mine will be subs up, port back, but my secret weapon is gonna be the 120-150 Sq.In. port! It will be violent. My sedan had a pinhole leak at the windshield and top, and now when I "bump" in the rain, it pours in.

My setup is gonna be a Clarion HU, 4 Street edge 6 1/2 2ways, the RF for the mids/highs, my 12" Mass Destruction Sidewinders, and the Crunch PZi1600.1.

I got a nice looking RF200.2 that's about 4-6 years old, which means it's probably still a nice Rockford. If I have the room, I'm gonna put a false floor in the trunk and put the amps in the spare department, but have a cut-out so you can see them. It will be nice.

I think I'll keep the battery and the fuse box in the engine compartment, cuz everything is already setup for it. That's the only thing that will be in there, though!

I might try to hide the coil behind the engine somewhere, too! lol All those PS and coolant lines look like crap on these cars... I'll help it by taking all the PS lines out, but then I'll still have coolant hoses...

The winning combo to get all the oil off the cross-bar, was steel wool soaked in Super Clean... I had the stuff in an old Windex bottle and sprayed it everywhere! The stuff worked really well. Still took me 3 hours worth of cleaning.

Gotta go to Walmart and get some butt-connectors.you need to solder or get some decent connectors, I wouldn't put anything electrical from Walmart on a lawn mower , if you use a bunch of butt connectors, they are going to get full of water and corrode, and the vibration in the engine bay will make them fail. What will happen is ,you'll be on the side of the road somewhere, trying to chase an intermittent connection from one of those things

Not a lot of progress today... Got the chain hooked up and I was working on disconnecting the shift linkages and couldn't find a 10mm wrench I just had, so I went to Napa and got a 4pc set for $10, then my dad needed a ride to get his bus, then I went to the exhaust shop to get my exhaust "fixed" on my sidekick and it's almost as bad as when I went in... Wasted day... But I did go finish a job for a guy with a Sidekick. Had to change out a dizzy and he gave me $110 ($50 hour of work! I bought the dizzy), so I was ahead by the end of the day...

Got the tranny apart from the engine. I need a new T/O bearring, but the clutch looks like it's got 100 miles on it! That's saying something about how I drive it... or how good the stock clutch is, cuz I drive it like I stole it!... heh.

I'm getting a little worried cuz I'm running out of money! New T/O bearring will probably be $40-60. I'm just gonna stotch-brite my P/P and Flywheel cuz I'm gonna use my clutch.

It had a really stiff pedal that got a LOT better when I had the cable perfectly allined, but after that, it doesn't like shifting into 3rd or 5th. The shifter is loose... I need new rubber for the shifter but I don't know where I can find it.

I need new tires for my 15's, but I can hold on that for a while... I need to get it registered as well, plus my Sidekick needs renewal by February 1st... Thank goodness I pay a LOT in taxes durring working season.

I'm 20 and the back of my mouth is starting to hurt and I don't have dental. I'm REALLY hoping it's just because I bite down really hard without thinking, and it's not wizdom teeth coming in wrong. YAY debt for the rest of my life...

you should use some duplicolor 'aluminum' colored engine paint. that shine from the wire wheel doesn't last very long, especially if you drive the car every day (in rain and such) but the paint holds up quite well and looks really good.

Got the max dimensions tonight so I can start designing something wicked.
33"W - 16"H (might do less so I can fit it closer to the back-seat) - 24"D
That makes the max net volume I can go 6.6cu.ft., which would be good for a 4th order bandpass.... Hmm....

I can either try to get a bandpass to work right, or I can just go with my original plan of 120-150 sq.in. of port area!

Are you going to use 3/4" MDF or something else for the box material? if you use the 3/4" stock just be sure you're making those dimensions the inside dimensions, so add 1.5" total for your outside dimension. I made that mistake once on a box for a friend of mine and was pissed at myself for being so damn stupid.

Yep! Way ahead, there. 31.5 x 14.5 x 22.5 = 10276.9/1728 = 5.9 cu.ft.

It's a little much for my subs, but I'm glad I got room for improvement.

Yeah, I do all the "extreme" designs at the local audio shop, and so far, my cut measurements (even the angles) have been perfect. The guy who runs it messes with me sometimes and says "I had to redo a couple measurements" and I say "BS (long version)" and he goes Nahhhh, I'm playin'... Came out really good!

(And I don't use any programs other than finding my port length)

I think I'm getting a table saw for Christmas, so now I'll have all the time I want to do some crazy stuff with it. I think I'm gonna flare my port, too.

He was also SSI on Carstereo about 5-6 years ago. A legend, in my book. Got a 12" Mojo to do 156 on the AC with a Hifonics amp. That would be about 147-152 on the TL...

I can make it curve just like that... I hope... heh.

What you do is cut the 3/4" MDF at about 11/16" and every 3/8" down the board, then you resin it solid. Hopefully I don't waste too many boards doing this, so I'll have to figure out a way to do it. Maybe a port in the middle of the box seperating the 2 12's. I'll still probably have it sub-up, port-back...

maybe I'm going too far by saying this guys, but I'm sure Bass_Man is on the same page. Custom boxes have a decent amount of thought and skill/craft work into them, so they're not cheap.

To be honest, the Alpine R's are what I consider a first step into a semi-pro sub. The Alpine S is a decent thumper for a decent economy build. ...but then again, like Jesse with your R, if you're semi satisfied with your R in the off-the-shelf box, once you get a custom box that's made specifically to the specs of your sub and to pull as much clean thump out of it, you'll think you have a completely new pro-grade sub.

Mike, are your W6's V1 or V2. Also you mention 1.5 Ohm. ...I'm kinda confused there because (and no I didn't go researching them just now, just working off some stale memories of them from back in the day so I could be VERY wrong) while yes they are DVC subs, I though they only came in 4 and 6 Ohm so you can use them in a single, dual or triple (6 Ohm) setup. So I thought you could only get either 4, 2 (dual 4 Ohm, or triple 6) out of them. ...but this might just show my ignorance and really old knowledge of this stuff.

...but for the guy that dares to drop the coin and step up to something like a pair of 10 W7's, I applaud you and would LOVE to hear them bumping in a custom box complimented by a set of Boston Z components and powered by something silly like an old McIntosh... ...oh damn i think i just pissed myself.

Shit guys I'm sorry this thread has gotten so off-topic from Bass' build thread. Bass, if you want me to break a box discussion thread out of this and slap it in the Audio section, just let me know. ...but if you don't care about it going o/t then neither do I.

mykwikcoupe
12-19-2009, 10:27 AM
Your mostly correct their mark. The v1 dvc jl audio w6 line came in dual 3 ohm coils. You can in theory from this run them single load loads which is what I did before at 1.5ohms each. This would be in series dividing the total number of resistance in half. From their you can take the 2 and run those in parallel adding the loads together making a single 3 onm load. These were always run in sets of 2 so you can run a single 1 omh load.

Mine are the cersion 1 and in my opinion better then the v2 but thats just me. I would love a 10w7. I used to borrow one from a co worker with a 1000 watt slash series amp on it. It hit hard and low and was super clean for a OTC box it came with. From previous setups Ive still got my 12's and 8's left. I havent found a good enough box for the 3 8's where they pound as hard as Id like. They do have a very subtle punch though. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong. I do have the factory biuld sheets including all specs if someone wants to try to biuld a box. Im learning that my old school soundstreams that I lived off in the past are relics and although super strong also very heavy wasters. i think it may be time to upgrade the powerhouses as well.

JL does wierd impedences because they want you to use their amps...

I do designs for $25 at the shop, but I don't mind making designs for the fellow 3g'er for free! Plus I could get in trouble... haha.

ZOMG! McIntosh H/U, Zapco H/M amp, Boston mids with Rainbow Highs, Zapco sub amp and JL w6's would be an eargazm.
If you wouldn't mind moving a couple post and tweaking with the site's flux capasiter, it would be cool to get a "Box" thread going on. I don't mind threadjacking, but when I get back rolling on my hatch and people want to know what crazy stuff I've done to it, they might get turned away from all the box discussion...

It's perfectly fine right now, though. I'll probably start working on my Honda Monday or something.

it wont let me pm you since for some reason your listed as a guest. Ill just include the specs.
For a HB design 2 jl audio 12w6 in a single enclosure with a baffle wall between them making 2 single 1.125 ft3 enclosures.
2.250 ft3. Qtc=1.07, sealed box. listed and tested SPL Reference 1 watt 30hz-87.9, 40hz-93.2, 50hz-96.3hz, 60hz-97.5.
Im not sure if they would sound better facing forwards against the rear of the car or against the rear seat. Facing rearwards against the back seat. Also if the wedge design kills the air reflection inside the box how do you work around that? id like an amp rack biult onto the box as well or maybe Ill biuld on onto the spare tire well.

Ill be running them at no less then 300 watts rms each or 1000 watts in combo. Let me know what you come up with. I was a carpenter for a few years and have all the right tools just lack the know how to make a killer custom box with bracing and such.

I haven't had time to do anything on the computer today... Most the time it's louder facing the rear. I love the wedge boxes, and they are the best box you can get/make for the JL's. They are just hard to design without the $80 box programs.

Did you try PMing me on this thread, or my "Audio Input" thread?

Well... My tow-truck driver buddy found 1 or 2 (can't tell what he meant, but I'm pretty sure 2) 3g's today. I think he said 1 runs really good, but the tranny is out(Said it's an 88-89, but I don't know if he can tell the difference, yet), and the other one is an LX-i, but there is something wrong with an/the injector(s).

If the LX-i has less than 150k miles, I'll probably take the motor, harness, dash?, fuel lines and tank, and see if I can make some magic! I love the sound of an EFI with little mods.

If they are the same year and it looks like I can Frankenstien a decent car, I'll sell it to someone ;) Who wants a 3g for cheap?

Talked to him a bout 5 hours ago. Said it was a black 4 door, and it would run when the kid sprayed starting fluid, but it died right after. Said he didn't know much about cars (or anything for that matter) and it could be a fuse, fuel pump, something like that. I hope it's got a black dash and nice seats! :D

You can't turbo a carb too easy, upgrading the intake manifold is probably cheaper than upgrading to a 38/38 or dual's. I think this little 32/36 isn't gonna be enough carb in a while.

It's grey with black accents... :(

They are both in rough shape and the LX-i has 277k miles on it, so I wasn't even that interested in getting into it. The other one is a maroon (with maroon interior, damn it) LX, and I heard it run, but either something big broke in the tranny, or the axle popped out of the tranny.

I'm debating tearing all the stuff out of the LX-i and scrapping the intake, cuz I have the intake some the 108k mile 88 LX-i long block that was in my sedan.

Grandma and the parents really out-did theirselves this year!! I got a helluva nice looking table saw and today, my dad took me to Shucks to pick up my new air compressor... Man!

I can do some seriously nice work, now. My last box (in my sedan) was nice for just a Skill saw and a "straight" piece of cut wood, but now I can get clean looking cuts and build a box twice as fast. Gonna kinda advertise the service.:flash:

Edit: I didn't want to make another post.
I spent about 5 hours researching the best box for this car, and I think what I'm gonna end up with, is a twin-port ported box, Subs up, port back. Trying to keep it simple so I'm not guessing.

I'm back rolling into this thing... I scuffed up the clutch components and my T/O bearing came in, and right before I was gonna install the flywheel, I thought all the oil on the block inside the bell housing wasn't all from the lack of a bottom bolt on the dizzy, rather, a bad main seal. My parts house had one in stock, so I bought it so I didn't have to worry about it for a long while...

I should have the tranny on the motor tomorrow, then it's a little more scrubbing before I drop it in.

Good eye! I hope it doesn't matter if there is more taken off in some areas than others. It took me an hour with a grinder trying to figure out the best way to cut it. I think the easiest way for me, since I don't have a receprical (SP?) saw, is that I cut off as close to the main pulley and ground the rest flat.

The paint should be the same color as the valve color (in the second pic), and I only painted certain things. The upper motor/tranny mount is black, but not pictured is the dog-bone, which is blue. Trying not to have too much rice going on.;)

OH, MARK! "Parts will be there Tuesday".

I wish I was as fast as it looks. It's taken me 2 weeks to get the motor and tranny cleaned and swagged... Damn that Guitar Hero... I'm getting good with the drums, though!

Yesterday, I had a buddy looking for a coil/ignitor for an 88, and I had one. We went up to where the 3g was and replaced the coil, and all we got was a spark and then nothing, so I took the oil cap out and told the guy to crank and the rocker wasn't moving! Damn it (for him), I think I got a job sometime soon. I had my engine replaced in a weekend (8 hours work, about), but I tried cleaning it up pretty good, as well.

Unless I can find some interior pieces, the exterior and engine bay will be the only good thing about this car. And my insane DB'zzz!!1

Its too bad about the interior. I found a Phoenix red hatch here locally, with the black interior in great shape. I wonder if the hatch interior will fit in the coupe. would you know about this bass?

The door panels, dash, and center console fit for sure. Seats are different between the 3g and 3.5g's, though. I just wish I could find blue interior.

The guy can't really afford anything and it's for his son, so I think I'll just charge him $5-600 and I supply the parts. It's A/T, too, and I couldn't figure out how to diconnect the cable from the tranny in my hatch, so I cut it with a grinder... haha!

Update from my garage! lol
I got the wiring set; I just need a lighter to shrink the shrink tube and lay the split loom on and it's done.
Edit: Remembered I have a propane torch in here.

Right now, I really need the upper cushions of all 4 seats, door panels, and a dash.
3.5g is 88-89... lol The brackets are different on the seats, I've heard.

Cable I'm talking about is the shifter cable for the old Auto tranny that was in the hatch.

I can afford the pieces at a junkyard, but I can't find any around here. Plus, I can't legally buy you beer till next December. :P

I'll make a new post for the exterior, cuz this laptop crashes in the middle of typing.

Exterior isn't gonna be much. Clean and simple is miles above "one of a kind" IMHO. (BUT!! I like being unique...) :/

I got those Fat fives, and those will be the highlight of the exterior. Window tint will be one of the mods. I really want to smoke my lights, but I don't want to do it wrong and I hate buying things online. I took the torch to the side trim and it didn't work like I wanted it to, so I'll be at least painting the trim pieces. The rear bumper came to black in the little area I tried it, but it's got those FUNKY ASS stickers on there and I'll have to buy a graphics wheel to remove them.

I'd love to sport a 3geez sticker on the rear windows, but again, buying things online.

The paint is cracking, which I find really wierd. It's not flaking or anything, but if you look close enough, you can see it looks like dehydrated skin, so if it gets too bad, I'll probably have it repainted.

I think I'll drop it 1.5" if I can get away with just cutting a coil with my cut-off wheel. It's fine to cut coils if you do it right, I've heard.

Yeah its okay to cut a coil but not with a cut off wheel. the idea is to not heat the springs at all. 3geez stickers are hot. so are the 3geez emblems that are being made. you should get your fat fives polished, it will make that much of a difference.

and well let me know if you really want me to pick up your interior for you. I have until Monday when I go back to school to do just about anything I want, so I have time to go pull some interior pieces for you.

Cutting springs aint that hard as it seems mark it with a marker well first jack up the car and mark where you want it to be. The use a cut off wheel..(nothing wrong with using a cut off wheel BTW).....but cut only 3/4 of the way threw and then drop the jack and youll hear that spring pop. jack back up and take out the piece.....simple and affective. when i did my buddys 3g took me bout 1/2 hour. if i remember correctly i did 2 links up front and 1 1/2 on the rear.

I got more money than I originally planned on having (unless unemployment stops paying me because I didn't attend their damn computer lab BS), so I might get a set of tires for my 15's sometime soon.

I got some work to do to it still.
Shift linkages are still in the sedan (I would LOVE to get rid of the play in my shifter, btw...)
Bolt the engine down and put all the hoses back.
Gonna run my A1 exhaust till I go to the exhaust shop to get my exhaust replaced. (Still debating on what to run; I'll probably study that tonight)
Put my new CV axle in the drivers side.
I'm gonna have to figure out how to get my full tank of fuel from the sedan into the hatch... Funny thing, I've never disabled a car on less than 3/4 tank of gas.
Put the dash and pedals from the Sedan in the hatch... I hope I can get the dash outta my sedan better than getting it out of the hatch... I didn't take the bolt in the middle of the collum out before taking the dash out, so the steering wheel was somewhat in the way.

turn the key to the on pos, then take the white wire that plugs in to the starter and hold it to the positive battery post(algator cliped wire make life easier) and the fuel pump will run and you will cause no damage ive done this a bunch of times now when i need some petrol to clean something or when i was taking the full tank of premium petrol out of my 3g when i sold it LOL

Didn't do anything to the Hatch today or yesterday... I fixed my Sidekick yesterday and today I help my 80y/o wheeling buddy put a locker in the rear, limited slip in the front, and a new crossmember in his Sidekick. He's a really cool old man. Legendary around here, I've heard... Fearless just like me!

Tomorrow I'll probably pull the T-case out of his other Sidekick cuz the high range shift fork bent or something.

GOOD NEWS!!!!

My tow truck driver buddy picked up an 89 Prelude that had some halfway decent 15" wheels with some almost brand new Cooper Cobra P195/50 15's. Told him I'd give him $150 for the tires and he said sold! Saved myself about $150 on tires.

That's been painted like that for a year, now.
Thanks, again! ;)

From 7:40 to 9:15, I was lowering the right front... I got a snap-on spring compressor and the patience of a saint, but I was swearing like a saylor for about an hour straight...

I had the plan to cut the spring 2 coils from the bottom, so I marked it with my paint pen, then I jacked up the front and started cutting with my last cut-off wheel. I knew I should cut the first coil along with the one I intended, so I cut them both at the same time, then a couple seconds later, the spring broke and pinched my wheel and almost destroyed it.

The cut coils were still in the spring, but the coil was pushing down on them so it was hard to spin them enough to cut them in half.

I had to take the strut apart. Tried to do it still attached to the car... Couldn't get the strut up far enough to put the nut back on, so I took it out (took a couple minutes because I was trying to beat around this bush...) and tried my nice spring compressor on this spring, but it caught the dust cover...

I would have been done with it in an hour, but the spring rotated on me and I tried spinning it and the coil got crooked, so I had to redo it.

LOOOONG story summed up, I found a stealth way of raising the strut up 1" or so... Every little bit helps. It might bang in a couple decades, but I'm sure it will be fine. I'll get pictures of what I'm talking about tomorrow.

I got 1 Five on it and it looks good even without the fender. I think it dropped 1.5" just like I wanted, so YAY!

really? how much does it cost you to title it and get registration?

Bass Man

Close to $150 I believe, now. Found out yesterday that my tax return could buy me a really reliable turbo setup and have money left over to register. Too bad I have too many hobbies. I'm gonna budget about 800 to my Sidekick, then about 4 for the Accord, then get the 3 back to my G-ma and have a little bit to live off. I might give the Sidekick a little more.

wow it costs $30 to take to emissions here and then it costs $52ish for two years of plates.

Bass Man

$86 for plates, title transfer will be a couple more. I don't have to deal with emissions, though. Probably gonna have ~$200 in the exhaust when I get there, but it will be setup so I can build a nice header and run a 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" collector later. I might get a cam gear if I could find one... Either that or an MSD ignition setup. Nothing gives away a sleeper like a rev limiter!

I'm pissed...

Finally found out what the smell was inside the car. I thought it was mold from sitting for a while, but an older buddy of mine said it smelled like Patchuli Oil...

No, I haven't even touched it, yet. Taxes are in the mail, though!

Here are some updates.
This is how it's been for the past month or so.

And this is where I left it.

And this is what you've all been waiting to see... Dirty-ass car... Believe it or not, but that is about 1 1/2" drop in the front thus far. Gonna look a little better, handle better, and not ride too bad.

Thanks guys. I don't know if I'm gonna get to lower the rear before Sunday, which is the day I'm taking it to Yreka... I might just put my bass setup in it instead of lowering the rear.

I don't know if it's gonna start or not, but right now, the dash is in and everything is wired right so far. I gotta figure out the wires going to the shifter and make them work, then I gotta take the exhaust down (not out... I'll have to leave it till after the weekend, probably) and put my manual shifter in.

Hmm... I think I'll do the big 3 to it while I'm at it, cuz it's not really that time consuming.

Then I gotta wire the battery, plug my drivers side axle in (brand new manual axle this time), then radiator and the rest would be body panels! My dad and a buddy want to wheel tomorrow, so I can't really not do that, but I should have enough time to get it running.

So far, I've had 1 thing mis-wired... Had the coil wired on at all times and I didn't know till about an hour later, cuz it started steaming up and just about exploded. Pretty cool to watch it, but it set me back pretty bad. Got a new coil and got it wired to come on with the key, so hopefully it works. The starter I rebuilt (Automatic plate, Manual tranny) doesn't sound right at all... In fact, it sounds exactly like it did on the original motor and I thought it was a broken T-belt, but it's acually the starter.

yay for progress! pics moar of them nao

and did u go with a afermarket coil? accel super stock runs $45 and is like 45000 volts makes a huge difference! well it did on my car anyway lol

ShyBoyCA6
03-17-2010, 07:26 PM
bass man um how did you remove the bottem of the dash?? i tried doing this but seems to have some hidden screws and i wanna change the beige to the stock grey like yours and im liking the fat cincos bro will you sell them??

Bass Man
03-17-2010, 08:01 PM
I'm about ready to sell it rather than take a match to it... Now the brand new coil (Yellow Accel. Used to have a chrome Accel) gets hot and doesn't give much for spark... Possibly a ground issue...

I officially give up on getting it running by Sunday... I think I'm gonna either get a stock carb car harness and put it back together, but tucked, or I'm gonna wait till I get another LX-i and strip it out. That's looking like a good option.

What part of the bottom of the dash are you talking about? The little cover on the left or the whole bottom? The cover has 4 screws at each corner, but the rest of the dash is 1 peice. They made them 2-toned, though. I wont get rid of the Five's unless I get $300; tires are pretty new, but only 3 match.

Working on it again. Got a gf now and she has a lot of my time, but she loves helping under the hood, so :D

I tore the engine harness out today and just about got bit by a widow... Buddy of mine said he never seen me move that fast before! haha. Gonna try to get the dash out and start replacing the harness wire by wire (solder and shrink wrap... Yay) and hopefully it will fix the issues.

Ok... I had the same exact problem I had before I pulled the harness out and redid it, only this time I hit the blinker while the key was off and it turned the blinker on... After some poking around, I figured out the positive lead and the alternator lead were backwards on the fuse box (kinda odd as they aren't reversable), so strangely enough everything is working perfect and it fired right up!

Something weird, though; the alternator lead is not hot, and when I hook up my 0/1 from the alt to the batt, it makes everything turn on again. The first time I rewired it, I had that hooked up at the same time, so hopefully it didn't do something... I think I'm gonna have to leave my 0/1 out for a while til I figure it out.

Bass Man
07-25-2010, 02:18 PM
Ok... So I got it running after I put gas in it, and it didn't want to shut off... soooo it's gonna go back to the dead row til I can get another parts rig. Either that or just screw that wiring and go primitive with the wiring!

just get a switch and tap it in to the fuel pump wire!! or do a whole race setup on the dash !! :D

Bass Man
07-26-2010, 06:11 PM
I was thinking about that... Kinda thinking about doing a remotely mounted head unit and get a harness to mount the faceplate on the dash.

Considering it is a carb, shutting off the fuel pump won't do anything. There is still a bowl full of fuel which the carb feeds on, so it will remain running for a good 30 seconds after the pump shut off. You actually want to shut off the coil.

yup, my 4dr's fuel pump was switch operated (dunno why, thats just how it was when i got the car) and there were a few times i forgot to turn it on, id drive 3 blocks and then it would start boggin down :uh:

The LXI has a factory EQ and LXI Directionals if anyone is interested. ;)

BTW, I finally got around to putting the rest of the fat fives on. I don't like it not being lowered in the rear at all while the front is down a good 1 1/2", but I'll get it lower after I get it running.

just get a switch and tap it in to the fuel pump wire!! or do a whole race setup on the dash !! :Dyou don't want to bypass the pump relay, the idea is if you get in a wreck, once the engine stops, the ignition stops and turns off the pump. if it didn't do this it could just keep spraying fuel all over the engine in a fire. the second ignition pulses stop, the relay cuts power to the pump
