The issue with a header for the 3g is going to be availibility...

I was checking something out the other day on here. Someone cut up a stock manifold and built a header with the manifold base. I was thinking about doing that eventually.

I dont think so either, when I did switch from the pacesetter to the DC, I did notice a better gain in power

It's really only noticable if the rest of the engine is waiting on the header though, right?? Right?!:naughty:
Got a port matched intake with a 38/38 (or for you FI guys, a D16 aftermarket intake) and you'll see a HELLUVA lot more perfomance out of a header. lol

shyboy you do know that DC headers for our cars are no longer made, you'll have to keep a look out for a used one or get lucky like I did and score a new one

oh what??? i didnt know that lol man how long has this been?? well i barely got the car this year so i didnt know that they dont make em anymore but i know whats up with my car i got it in feburary change alot of parts man....well if you know someone let me know if not then ima go turbo

DC headerrs havent been made for the 3g for YEARS, just like DC tower bars, pace seter short shifters, and a few other parts

also theres a FULL header list of every one made for the accord in the performance section theres like 6 diffrent companys that used ot make ones and now pacesetter is all thats left... if your lucky you will find a DC or other brand

Pacesetter in definitely better than stock, just like DC Sports header is definitely better than Pacesetter.

Pacesetter is your only off the shelf option.

DC header is a rare item. I had one for sale until I found another 89 LXi that I just installed it on.

I was kind of disappointed with my DC header at first. I generally don't go over 3000rpm and it actually lost some guts below 4k. But there's a noticeable surge around 4500 that keeps going until wherever the redline is. Another really nice thing is that it's pretty good about heat; I stripped and re-coated it when I bought it and I can touch it with my bare hands even when the car warms up.

I don't keep a close eye on the classifieds but I've seen at least three DC headers for sale since I've been here, counting mine. Keep looking and you'll find one.

Normally performance headers are tuned to the peak torque of the engine. thats why the car feels sluggish at low rpm but once you reach peak torque it really opens up. I think it's safe to say the stock manifold is tuned considerably lower than the peak torque for more usable low end power but the top end suffers.
I wish i had a pipe bender.

Pipe bender?? Go to your local muffler shop and get about $60 worth of 1 1/2" pipe and J-pipes. hehe. That's kinda what I got planned... Gonna wrap it in exhaust wrap so it don't look so messy, plus the more heat you keep inside the pipes, the easier the exhaust flows in the pipes.

I meant a pipe bender to make you guys headers, one solid pipe from flange to collector instead of a bunch of joints and welds killing flow. Of course its give or take with non mandrel bends.
ya, I am not getting away from the turbo on my car.

Bass Man
12-13-2009, 08:36 PM
I'd make up some headers if I could afford the flanges. I don't like buying anything online.

I was considering buying a draw bender. Cheaper then a mandrel bender, but a bit smoother when compared to the crimp of a die bender.

I looked at my budget and just decided to buy the pre-bent pipes, weld, weld, weld, and be done with it. I made a custom 4-1 and I was happy with it, but it did give me a lost of unwanted attention and eventually I closed off the open 3" collector and added on a 2" muffler. Note that the 3" collector was the only size I could get cheaply $$$, not the size I wanted.
If I remember correctly what I wanted was about a 2" choke in my collector and a bit larger on the diameter to a mid muffler or a regular exhaust, not 3" open.

Mind you those bends at the end by the collector were not what I wanted... it's just how I got everything to fit and still be equal length. I learned my lesson though and will get a bender before I try another 4-1.

Oh yeah and then I did this.

shit... ...ok guys, PaceShitter is not the ONLY header mfg that still has these available.

S&S has a 4-1 with a slip-fit and ball&socket joint at the collector
Paeco still has the jigs to make one and will do it for a cost

....and yes, the PaceSetter is still available in Ceramic Coated silver or just crap black paint

Links can be provided if everyone is too lazy to Google it

I can't believe I just let the cat out of the bag on S&S. ...and yes, they do have at least one sitting on a shelf ready to ship. After that is sold it'll be a pain in the balls to get them to make more.

Slip fit is a nice feature. I hated the bolts....Slip on and use some springs and your dp is ON. I like it. When i get another 3g i well get the s,s header

what kind of intake do you have? people often have 3" intakes which are too big and you lose low end torque. i have a dc header with 2.5" intake and i have plenty of torque on the low end, though it does keep going up as you increase rpms obviously

i didn't notice any loss of power when i put my DC on.. as long as you put the sensors in right :kekeke:

I've got the Ceramic Coated Pacesetter which replaced a normal Pacesetter that turned into rust. The ceramic is defiantly the better product.

I did the same noob mistake here. Thought it was a timing issue. Then after I took it on the highway the check engine light lite up and I remembered that you have to "SWITCH THE O2 SENSOR WIRES" Can't remember why this is.

Switch the O2 wires? What?

Unplug the 2 O2 sensor wires and switch their positions with each other.
