hey i was wondering if there are any different type of headlights for my car instead of the stock flip ones? i think ive seen them before or maybe that was just people doing there on costom mods

They got them for 240sx's on Need for Speed Underground 2! I think they're pretty neat and possible.

If anything else, here's a free bump.

You'd have to make your own, or do a European sedan conversion. FYI, the aftermarket support for these cars is minimal.

There is a user on here who made his own custom fixed lights that went in place of the flip-ups, using projectors. I don't remember who, though.

I would like to find the projector pieces so I could do flip up projectors.

Strahan
01-11-2010, 05:54 PM
That would be the best. I like the flip up, I wouldn't want to get rid of that just swap it with projectors and maybe limit the upward travel so it just opens far enough for the projectors so long as it doesn't look too goofy heh.

I like the beam I get out of my Astra. Just a regular halogen projector housing. They are both high and low beam in my car. They should be pretty easy to come by, as they've been used in plenty of other cars.

The headlights don't look bad, but those corners look like they need rotated counter-clockwise a little.

Well that's just horrid. Headlight conversions never look good, I don't care how nice the bodywork is. There's a reason car designers get paid loads of money.

BTW, I'm talking about using just the headlight projector out of the housing and using the stock flip housing in our car as intended.

It was incomplete at the time I took a picture of his conversion. That grill is just sitting there loose not connected to anything.

don't forget about Victor (vtechonda) who did a 5G 'Lude headlight graft onto the front of his 3G hatch. Josias (hondaman87) did a 4G Accord headlight conversion on his 3G hatch as well.

Personally, not my cup'o'tea, but to-each-their-own. Whatever you do, make it your own, but do it justice by doing it right.

Like others mentioned too, you could always just do an EDM front end conversion if you wanted to.

thats my plan on the hatch. I want it too look like a super large 2nd gen. I wonder how many people would actually recognize it. The only thing I need to do is save up enough money to buy the swap from aaron. Man thats going to be a while at this rate

Just a word of caution if you're getting the headlights from a RHD country, your light pattern will be wrong and oncoming trafficants won't be too happy. Are you planning on getting the whole swap (fenders, hood and radiator support) or just the lights/corners and modify the original body parts?

mykwikcoupe
01-12-2010, 11:49 AM
it would be the entire section. Fenders, hood, bumper, lights, core support. Last I talked with him he said he was ready whenever I was and he had a mint set waiting for me but Like I said I need to save first. I hate this economy. I havent been broke like this for 10 years.

Im curious, if they use the same light bulbs from left to right and the headlights are the same. Is there a pattern internal to the housings that sends more light to one side over the other?

Nafs Asdf
01-12-2010, 12:08 PM
yeah, I think it's the reflective parts in the housing that are shaped differently, rhd housing being a mirror image of lhd ones. Around here if you import an rhd vehicle, you won't get it road legal without swapping the lights.

I wonder why no one makes a complete projector setup to replace sealed beams? I don't see any legality issues, you would aim it the same as a car with factory sealed beams, bolt it in and use the factory adjusters. I do like the hella sealed beam conversions, the lights look really vintage and suit the car well. they also make a 5 3/4 inch conversion that is H4 , it's advertised as off road only, and it's round, I think it could be fit into a plate in the factory light housings behind the factory trim. If it was moved to the outside of the trim, a small amber projector fog lamp could be added beside it. If I had the money I really wanted to do this conversion, and I have the materials and equipment to make it work.

If you're that broke, I'll buy your hatchie off you. ...no seriously. :deal:

Anyway, yeah i think an EDM front end on a hatch would be interesting at least. I'm curious if someone is willing to take the time to photochop that. I was thinking about if an aerodeck'er would do that, it would look like a Baby Huey style EF hatch.

I dont want to sell my hatch but I would take you on a trade for the brey hatch that zackiedarko went to cali to get. Im going to take a few parts off it but itll still be stock other then the b16 and engine mounts all ready for a trans and linkage. I was going to sell it to Jon 2ndgenguy. Hell get 1st chance then its up to the masses. Im going to take all the cool parts off and put my stockers back on it so itll be a roller just and engine though no exhaust, axles, linkage or trans. Ill probably leave the wiring harness and have angus make me another. Im so impressed by his quality.

Just a sidenote. If I sold you the hatch, what would I put the conversion on?

You wouldnt need the conversion if you sold the hatch, you could just let me buy the EDM conversion from aaron (whoever that is) and throw it on my coupe. :) I just got a $7,202 financial aid check lmfao im stoked.

lol well let me know if you really cant pick it up for lack of funds. im always willing to grab a edm front end.

oh and I grabbed some bumper covers for you. both the facelift and pre facelift are black in color but are in great shape. im sure you can repaint them in white easily. im not sure about the monteray green color though? let me know if you want me to ship them out for you.

Thanks for the feedback guys. As I mentioned earlier, the conversion isn't complete but you guys have the right idea. I'm planning to either finish it off with a one-piece clear lexan cover, or a combo of the original metal cover cut on a diagonal and the remainder of the gap covered with lexan.

If some of you guys haven't seen it yet, here are the pics I posted in another thread along with my concept using the cut HL cover to give it a more aggressive look.

on my car they look completely symmetrical (is that the word?) inside & out, I can't see anything that shows there would be any differences between them being made for lhd or rhd. other than that i'm sure the lights can just be adjusted to suit RHD/LHD countries

It's really hard to tell the difference from inside the housing. The difference makes the headlights to this:

http://www.netcarshow.com/mercedes-benz/2010-s-class/800x600/wallpaper_32.htm

In RHD countries, it's exactly the opposite. I've never noticed anything of the sort from my car, though.

i think that was just a over exaggerated example of what it's sposed to be like. but my headlights (and i'm pretty sure most others) can just be adjusted to shine left/right :)
