im interested in putting some coilovers on my 89 lx-i coupe and i wanna know what you guys are running.. ive looked in the suspension board and found nothing unfortunately and i just want some rough ideas of what to look for.. i heard that the EF coilovers will fit our cars.. is this true? if so then ill look into getting those for my lx-i.. anyway.. post what you got guys

im running springs. If you run coilovers you might blow your struts. The spring rate is horribly high. I would recommend springs. On the forsale section there a set of suspenion teq. and a set of something else for 80 bucks. Cant go wrong with that......

I dont have them but I spoke with D2 racing and they have a part# for our cars now. They are 36 way adj preload and compression and you can preload the spring as well as adj hight. Legend Master is running a set het is where I got the idea. Oh and if they are too stiff they also do custom spring rates all the way down to 200 lbs. Lbs is rated different on a coilover so 200 would be very very light.

hows a 84-87 crx one work? they dont have front springs and the rears have a eye not a fork, unless you mean "adjustable coilover sleve" which in my opinion are a waste of money when you can have a shortened koni and spring :)

COILOVERS. not springs. well maybe springs. That list is for COILOVERS ONLY i forgot to mention. Prolly springs also

I would stay with new struts and drop springs. I hear Coilover Can blow ur struts out and the ride is to stiff for my likeing.

dam so let me get this straight.. all of those years and modles will fit my 89 lxi? perfectly? just slap em in?
cuz if so, that clearified ALOT of my searching.lol.

Rendon LX-i
01-25-2010, 08:40 AM
yup. springs/coilovers. BUt some well be lower then others. Bascily a 88-91 civic works the same. Coilovers well blow your struts out quick. but its a cheap drop if your not planning on keeping the car for a while

geej07
01-25-2010, 09:31 AM
I've got 88-91 civic coilovers in my accord. The back coils are to short I had to put spacers in them. Front coils are fine just the backs are really short. Looks good once I put the spacers in and rides great! Skunk2

JohnBoy
01-25-2010, 02:24 PM
that can't be because i know that some of the civics have only a 2 bolt top mounting plate that is were i think you have to put the stock one in its place

geej07
01-25-2010, 02:56 PM
I've got the stock struts. Tried civic skunk struts an they didn't fit right. I used the original tops from the accord

Rendon LX-i
01-26-2010, 08:41 AM
not struts. you can use the sleve. The top hat dont matter......

Not if they are fullbodied coilovers... if your just running coilover sleeves then you need to get some Bilstiens and have them revalved and shortened.

one more thing... i found this rear camber fix and it seems wierd.. on the notes it says quantity needed is 2 per axle.. is that lower and upper control arms?

i have a question guys... today i saw an se-i and it looked alot lower then my car.. question is... are the se-i's factory lowered compared to the lx-i? an old person was driving so i dont think they would have lowered it...

JohnBoy
02-12-2010, 09:13 PM
i don't think so i know there is a little different set up but i think its the same hight

haha fucken rendon... but yeah the whole car was lowered.. not just the back end.. like with the se-i rims.. there was like an inch or 2 of gap from the tires to the fenderwells... seems odd... and its not the only one ive seen like that also.. hmm ill have to yank springs off an se-i from the jy and compare them..

Hash_man_Se_i
02-15-2010, 07:57 PM
Springs from an SE-i are exactly the same. I have had 2 se-i's and now have an EX-i. Don't waste the time or effort getting springs... who knows, it could have been lowered.

i think someone was saying the springrates were really high on those? seems like a good deal tho... mabe some coilovers from an EF would work better? my friend can get me a set for about 500.. not sure on the brand

so what is needed to install the 88 to 91 skunks? tops and somespacers?
the civic skunk2 coils? front fit perfect just swap the stock spring for the skunk2. the back is the same deal but the coil its to short so i got some coil spacers from advance auto an put them in. sits pretty good now. skunk2 88-91 civic struts wont work though. tried it. wasted 300 bucks!!

how do your fronts feel? mine are rather soft... i think the stock ones i pulled off were stiffer..

can the shock oil in the kyb's be upgraded? i know its gas charged so ill have to figure something out for that one..

well not gas filled but gas charged on top of the oil being added.. i guess its a newer version then what you got? but all i got are the neuspeed drop springs.. i think the spring rate is 55.20.05 not sure what that means.. but the springs are green.. a friend gave them to me so im not so sure on the specs on drop rate..
