2ndGenGuy's new 89 LXi Coupe 5 speed

Well, here's my new 3gee. It's pretty stock. Has a warm air intake on it that sounds pretty mean. Runs like a top. Used to belong to Alex (86AccordLXi) before my friend bought it from him. My friend bought it from me. Clean inside, not bad outside, but needs a paint job. It's got center console with cupholders and matching armrest. Has a nice stereo in it. 261,000 miles.

Plans are:
New rotors
New tie rod ends
Coolant flush
New hubcaps
Repaint moldings

Sorry about the terrible pics. The car sat under a tree that sheds like fucking crazy. The paint looks decent under that. Its just leaves.

Only thing I know of is the bezel on the rearview mirror, where the seat belt lights are... that's cracked. Otherwise the interior is mint. Thanks yo. I'll hollar at you next time I've got it up in Seattle.

Dammit, mine is cracked, too. To whomever horribly installed my sunroof put the motor right there causing it to crack over time from pressure. Mike has two sets. The one I drove up to him, and the one he realized he already had, but not until I got there.

the red id the most versitile interior honda ever biult. Ive never seen one thats in shambles. they dont abuse very well. The fabric was biult to last. Too bad it doesnt look great in alot of the colors.

The 1g Teg gears are even shorter than the Prelude ones. But good god why you'd want them that short is beyond me. Especially for all the money you're gonna pay to have them installed (or all the work you're going to go through if you do it yourself). They definitely appear to be for a 7000RPM engine. I had a 2g Prelude A18 trans in my 2g Accord and it was perfect. No fucking with gear swaps.

But of course, you guys can't run the A18 trans. I'm not sure what the ratios are like on the Prelude A20A3 transmissions, but if they're at all like the A18 transmissions, they're awesome.

the a18 trans does not bolt to the a20? i thought only the clutch disk was different and if you swapped to a prelude clutch disk it would work

The A18 has smaller splines in the diff. That's why it fit my 2gee.

carb manual FD is 3.866

Not a lot better but you could still run a turbo and not rev up to fast and move the accords a little better in all gears but 1st and 2nd. Which should be pretty good with a few mods at 3.181 and 1.842. And the lighter flywheel will rev a lot faster. Just looks like an easier swap than the teg accord hybred. You can pick one up for about 1 to 2 hundred at the bone yards.

angus did his in a weekend and we got the trans for 75 dollars at the pick-n-pull...

So did you guys just swap the gearsets, or did you do any parts replacing while you were in there? You're temping me to rebuild the transmission in my 1gee, cos my 2nd and 3rd gear synchros are starting to go.

He may have changed the bearings in the case when he was in there, i wasn't there for that part, i was only there for the dreaded junkyard removal. we literally took everything off and the last bolt was the back one, it wouldn't come off, it stripped when we were taking it out and it was stuck in, from 1pm-5pm we worked on this. finally with like 20 minutes til the yard closes we hear it start to back out so we pried and turned for the next 15 and finally it came out... it was all bent and the threads were all stripped, then we laughed like the whole night lol...

well doing a early shift might throw you off the speed there i do shifts at 3500rpm since it seems to kick in

so im guessing...well on my car since i have a certain problem...
1st 0-25
2nd 25 to 35 shift
3rd 35 to 50shift
4th 50 to 70 shift to
5th like around at 3500rpm and it hooks up fine

i do these shifts in my car since i cant go past 4000rpm
but you get the power at 5000 rpm
man i miss my car hitting 6600 or 6800 rpm she sounds so mean

I kept the accord 5th for that reason. I'm pretty sure I have a video somewhere...


I have the full set of new bearings to go in, but I wound up reusing them from the accord trans as they were in perfect condition. Everything got disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. You can just switch the teg shafts and differential into the accord case. Shift forks, bearings, and syncros are the same. The shift forks and the reverse idler were a little worn on the teg, so I used the ones from the accord as well. If you're somewhat intelligent with your junkyard selection, you'll make a good tranny out of the two.

21k and it hasn't blown up yet! Though if I did it again I think I'd use new syncros, 2nd can be slightly crunchy every now and then when cold. :cheers:
