intake on a carb

i was wondering is there any way to put a intake on a carb like a aem or something i want to boost my carb can some one give me tips on it im trying to stay cheap

Won't do anything. The stock carb has a fresh air intake already on it, and a heat intake off the exhaust manifold with a regulator to keep air temps optimal. Don't mess with it or you will start a cascade effect of problems. Unless you REALLY want to dive into the stock carburetor... then check the Vacuum Removal guide and convert it to manual secondary. :)

There can be some tuning you can get out of this setup depending on how big you make the plenum above the carb and how big the pipe diameter is and how long it is... but really the flipped lid is still the easiest and probably better.

The only real biggie is the noise it makes.

This is a custom made plenum, most other SRI or CAI adaptions used the CIVIC AIR BOX

Oh and I forget why I added the vacuum line to the carb from the intake... there was a reason for it, but I think it was for testing not really meant to be there permanently.


If you're wondering this was a 3rd 3G I had... back when I still had 3 3G's. I miss those days.

kI believe an early eightys civic used the same base oem carb and had a breather on it that could have a cai attached to it with very little rigging. If you are lucky enough to find one grab the carb to it doen't have near the extra confusion of appliances attached to it.
It should be possible to swap internals around so it works on a 2.0, although I have not seem much on doing that on the forum. Click on this...

the early eighties civic carbs are cvcc and a lot less cfm, even if it worked you would be decreasing performance. they are completely different then anything else.

80-83 are all three barrel cvcc carbs, I owned about six of them, the accords are too, the possessed carb and the biggest headache ever made next to the keihin on the three g.

If I remember correctly on Mugens setup for the three g they recommended leaving the factory airbox just like it is, it's not that bad of a setup, if you unscrew that restrictor inside of the air cleaner it does help a bit though, these cars have a cold air system built right in. the Keihin is so fussy it reacts strangely to modifications. I got it to work, but I also installed all of the sensors in the airbox I built.

I was NOT refering to those cvcc, and yes I may be mistaken on the carb air cleaner, there is a Kiehen carb with almost idenical basic stucture other than all the add on's (speghetti mess and controls) like on our cars.
The air box Im thinking of is off the FI civic throttle body type like 2ndGG mentions. The link I provided earlier is that one, and it can be modified to work.

choping the box works exactly like fliping the lid except its not as damn ugly, the pipeing on the carb setup is very restrictive not to mention only lets air in one side of the filter, ever notice on a used car that has an old air filter the side by the air intake is nasty and dirty but the oposite side looks brand new?
