Same deal with me. I'd have bought the CRX too, when the seller wouldn't have changed his mind at the pick-up day.

Nice CRX though, I didn't even know they had pop-ups. Nice!
Hope to get a CRX too in the future, love 'em.

the POS overheats fail motor, My mate has an EW5 enginer which is from a civic, its a cvcc EFI motor so i may install that, i got some headers too pics later

lostforawhile
02-18-2010, 09:23 PM
what was the horsepower on those? you got the tiny engine, a stock 81 civic was 1500 cc, and it was cvcc too. had a screaming 67 horsepower. I would have though there they wouldn't be cvcc, we used to get heads out of canada that were cross flow and dump the cvcc heads.

AccordB20A
02-19-2010, 12:17 AM
the EW im sticking in is rated at 110 PS (110 hp) 5800 rpm 13.8 kg/m (10.2 lb·ft) torque
the EV in it now is around 60hp haha

2ndGenGuy
02-19-2010, 07:52 AM
Haha "American HiFi!" I don't think they even sell that brand here. That does look EXACTLY like some of the decks that Sony was selling for a while. I put one in my Dad's Civic. Except the CD slot wasn't blocked off.

Sucks about the overheaty motor. The new one sounds like it will be a bit better anyways!

shit yeah son nice work. I love your engine-swap-in-a-day threads!

AccordB20A
03-06-2010, 09:42 PM
okay righto what i did next was hook up the fuel lines and pump and filter, since the car used to be carbed and i didnt swap the fuel tank and lines im going to use the carb ones and mount the efi pump in the engine bay, so i did that and test started the engine with the wiring just hanging out in the engine bay
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2359.jpg
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2360.jpg
and when i eventually got the timing right it fired up, no error codes but ran rich as fuck and idled like a ported rotary bap bap bap..

i was like thats good enough for me then i did the hard job, Tucking the wires into their factory locations up under the dash and through the firewall etc...

Next it was time to hook up the remaining water lines for the radiator fill it with water and slap on the front end, the pre facelift popup light header panels fucked so i decided to install the facelift front that came with the car, i had to uglyfy the bumper to make the lights fit, but here it is
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2367.jpg
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2368.jpg

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2374.jpg

so it starts and drives, no error codes but it runs like complete ass, dont know why it pours out black smoke out the back. im going to look into it tomorrow, swap out the dizzy and injectors and ecu with my mates spares and see if i can fix the issue

well tonight 9pm i went to mums to put this new motor into the crx, just got home its 1am and the swaps almost complete just need to install the fluids/radiator/plug in the wires and it should be mint, pics and maybe a video tomorow

AccordB20A
03-21-2010, 12:12 AM
Well after swapping the engine to a mint known one it still did not work, this time it didnt even start, so i was like grrrr. i thought about changing the injector resister box, so i did and it started, i was like hmm

the motor ran but it still did what the last motor did, ran like complete ass rich as and fouled the plugs, At this point i was getting ready to kick something. I decided to relocate the fuel pump from the engine bay to under the car by the fuel tank in the back in its factory position, Started it up and nup still runs like ass, drained the return line into a bucket nope still runs like ass, then i decided to check the cam timing again, i so thought i had it correct but it appears i was using the wrong timing mark and it was out a few teeth, As soon as i got the timing right vvrrmm it started up and ran mint as, no missing no smoking, idled smooth as.

I come to the conclusion it has to be the resister box that was making the old engine run rich. ah well all is good, it runs mint and i have the fuel pump in its factory location. Im happy now, can use this car again.

Next step will be putting the interior back together and replacing the rear shocks, both are blown and its just on springs lol

no news on the dass as of yet:( Anyways yesterday i swapped in the new brake cylinder and blee all the brakes, mint it can stop now, drove it for the day complained about how much it handled like ass, i got some good cond front shocks from my mate and slammed them in he gave me some rears too but htye were as bad as the old ones out of it, i had some eg rear shocks around so i tried them, i had to slide the spring perch off and turn it upside down to make the spring mount lower, and it fited, So in the back of my crx im running the eg hatch shocks and springs, HUGE improvement they are stiff as, 100% satisfied with the handling of the crx now. its awesome, stable on the rpad, no more twitchy steering, Sadly no pics. ill get some when i replace the springs

right i was bored today so i swapped the rear axle, this crx was a poverty spec model so it didnt have a torsion tube swaybar type rear end like the rest of them, in other words it handled like ass. i got the necessary civic si parts and rear axle and swapped it today

new axle and trailing arm

removal of old axle
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2858.jpg
compare them, they are the same so mint
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2859.jpg

removed drum shoes etc to remove the handbrake cable to i can swap the trailing arm as the cable goes through it.
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2860.jpg
found fail, the trailing arms are different lengths

right so while the arms were of i noticed the only thing i needed to swap onto the crx arm was a little round thing that the bushings for the sway arm linkage would fit it

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2864.jpg

This piece was pressed in i noticed so i bashed it out and out it came
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2865.jpg

bashed it back into the crx arm and it fitted mint
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2866.jpg

assembled it all
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF2867.jpg

and thats it, all done, ill get more pics later and take it for a test drive and see how she handles

AccordB20A
10-09-2010, 01:42 AM
okay ive taken it for a test drive and its ftw. handles a bit better when you go over bumps now, the rear doesnt sway sideways as bad as it used to.

Took the radiator out yesterday, hoping to fix why this car overheats all the time, found out a bolt from the header panel was too long ad made a hole in it, i took it to the radiator man and he filled the hole, leak tested it and found 5 more holes here and there, he fixed it all up for me. $20 it costed, stuck the car back together today and its mint, engine starts, runs at 1500rpm till it heats up then drops to around 800rpm which is mint, and then the fan comes on when it comes up to temperature, im happy, the car actually feels like its running better too, i guess before the engine never got any water temperature up as it just leaked it out.
Also fixed the popup headlight panel, before the motor didnt make the eyelids open up, i found 3 wires were off the motor so i soldered them back on why the header panel was off, this now works also

Im overall happy now.

Ive Started the manual swap for the CRX too. I chucked the engine on the stand and took the intake off and cleaned the fuck out of it.

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF3029.jpg

What im doing with the gearbox is rebuilding it with internals from another accord gearbox and swapping in the gears with good ratios. pretty much going to run the accord 5th and final drive and the civic 1,2,3 and 4th

right more progress. i got a accord b18a gearbox here (yes i know rare as fuck wank wank bellhousing)

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/swapgears5.jpg

i pulled apart both boxes and compared ratios. Basically the accord final drive is 4.06 and the civic is 3.86. I decided to use the accord final drive with the civic gears.

removal of 5th gear, ill use the 5th gear from the accord box so the engines not doing 4000rpm on the highway.

now i pulled the guts out of the accord box and removed the diff, took off tis ring gear and swapped it onto the civic diff
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/swapgears1.jpg
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/swapgears2.jpg

now i started to put the box back together. i used the civic 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the accord 4th and 5th.

http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/swapgears4.jpg

thats where im up to now, im going to go to bed as its like 1am and i am going to smash something if i dont leave it. i cant get the fucking gear selector piece in!!!

AccordB20A
04-09-2011, 04:07 AM
right, excuse the shitty pics. i nearly threw my camera at the wall for some reason it cant take pics at night time no matter how you set it up. AAnnyways today i decided it was time to complete that gearbox thats been sitting in the shed bugging me all week for the crx so i did.
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF3039.jpg
http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv240/accordb20a/1gCRX/DSCF3040.jpg
then i got the CRX in the shed and removed some precious plastic panels and started removing the EW5 motor from the hole.

Because i needed to swap the hubs for the zc axles to fit i installed some near new mint monroe shocks on the new hubs and threw the old hubs/brakes complete with axles in the scrap pile. I have also some mint accord CA3 twin piston calipers to on, i just need to locate some integra rotors cause i have none at the moment haha

riight more work is done, bought a EG5 dohc ZC/D16A9 intake manifold to chuck on it.To make it fit you just need to remove two studs from the head and it bolts straight up. I have a eg4 vti engine wiring loom on the engine and i need to modify it to fit the CRX body loom. The engine cant start just yet as im waiting on a eg civic body loom to steal the efi wiring out of for the stand alone OBD1 swap.

whack a b18c in it.
just been working on an ef crx with a b18c conversion, and fuck it was quick!
was quick enough with non functioning vtec, got vtec going and was quicker than my bike which will beat a itr to 100kmh.
was still smoking at 7000 rpm in 2nd, and thats both wheels

nah im not copying my mate, we already have put a b18cR into one of these and you cant even plant foot in 1st or 2nd without wheelspin and its seriously fast, almost kept up to a rb26DETT converted R32

ZC FTW

but init fun!
the father of the owner of the one i was working on, owns an hsv clubbie and it scared the shit outta him.

and fmn716, have seen b16a from as low as $500 and B18c from bout a grand in nzd.
b18cr and b16b are a bit more but still cheap hp.
can get an s2k front cut for bout 5k.
and thats cheap hp.
couldnt build a reliable 240hp na motor for that.

fucking cunty bitch, fixed the oil leak and now the oil pump takes a dump, its been making whirring noises ever since i put the engine in but the noise went away when it warmed up so i thought nothing of it. so it was sweet, now i start it up and the oil light stays on, no whirring noise, poos i knew i should have swapped the pump over

Out comes the engine again this time ill do the pump, water pump and cambelt aswell so nothing else can go wrong
