A burnt brake light?

The second guess would be a rev limiter.

2step?

ding ding ding. We have a winner! I put an MSD 6AL-2 box in my car. Been wanting to get an ignition box with a rev limiter for awhile, so I figured I might as well get one with 2-step as well.

It's launch control. I press in the clutch, tap that button, and then put the accelerator to the floor. All I have to do to launch then is engage the clutch.

is this the same as holding down the gas while you have the clutch pedal in?

Then releasing the clutch while your car is still revving high or what?

Kind of. I have the clutch pedal in, but instead of having to hold the throttle at the right rpm I get to just press the throttle all the way to the floor, and have it stick at the optimal launch rpm until I release the clutch.

oh cool that makes sense now.

but..... is the "optimal launch rpm" different between cars and what modifications they have? i would assume so and do you choose the preferred setting?

in simple words would your carbed car have a different "optimal launch rpm" to my injected car?

yes, it's different for every car. especially if you have a big cam like me. The two step is adjustable with a rotary dial on the box, just like the overrev limiter is.

if the throttle is floored but holding at a lower rpm, how is it controlling the rpm? Spark obviously but what about all the extra fuel getting dumped into the engine? Im sort of lost on the fundementals befhind it. Cool idea though for sure.

It drops spark to the cylinders, but it alternates cylinders to keep from flooding them.

yeah. I could definitely do that. I'll see about taking some pictures and getting something put up.

2 step is usually used on turbo applications to hold peak boost for the ultimate launch. But can still be used on N/A engines if you running a cam for peak hp via powerband :bandit:
