Hi, to all members. I am new here, I have an 89 DX that runs fine when you accelerate, but the idle jumps from 1,000 to 500 and back, when at a stop or idling. It seems like it wants to stall, but most of the time doesn't. The idle is skaky as well. Could it be a vacuum leak or low idle. If it's the idle, where do you adjust it. This is my 3rd carbed Accord. Thanks for any input. :hsugh:

It's really annoying having the idling problem like this. I'd rather give the car the benefit of the doubt, and fix it.

Seems like a vacuum leak and you throttle controller is doing it's job trying to compensate.

What ever you do, try and find/fix any problems first... you can always raise the idle using the throttle stop screw but that will just mask the problem.

Thanks, for the quick reply. I kinda thought it was a vacuum leak. You don't think it's also bad spark plugs or dirty fuel filters, do you? We adjusted the idle a tad.. and it doesn't have a jumpy idle as much as before, although it is still present. Do you think it could be the PCV valve, too?
