What to do what to do.... i currently own an 89 lxi sedan, i noticed two 89 coupes for sale.... i dunno if i should sell my sedan (223k miles) and buy a coupe ( one has 131k the other 154k). My interior still looks brand new too

Is there anything wrong with your car?

If not I wouldnt get rid of it just to get a car with two less doors/lower miles.

No matter the mileage its still a 20+ year old car...its very possible it will have issues.

if i were you ill stay with the sedan...the coupe is nice but the wheels look bit apart from a sedan but the coupe have those pillow seats which look comfy but thats just me cause i have a sedan.....but if i had a coupe (grey se-i) i wouldnt care about the vs part but eh thats just me

my sedan needs a new clutch soon, and i found a buyer for it (ironically its my room-mate) i could keep them both but i live in the barracks (wonderful army) and i would have to find a spare parking spot to stash one in. So now the question goes, 1,000 for a lxi coupe, supposedly in good condition inside and out, runs great (automatic) and has 150k? is that a fair price... i am gonna shoot him a price of $800 cash and see how he responds

coupe > sedan

?

Um they had to put to 2 more doors so they had to more the wheels a bit and body

No.

The wheelbase is the same for all of them. The hatchback is a little shorter bumper to bumper but they're all the same chicken underneath.

Oh alright my mistake I thought cause of the sedan having extra doors than the coupe that they had to make the sedan bigger in order to put the doors...my bad

well, the coupe i wanted to buy is lacking some features and is also in rougher shape than mentioned (http://austin.craigslist.org/cto/1601644537.html) and he wants to much for it in the condition its in. note the cracked windshield and super dent on the body. The other one is for sale for 1400, which is about 500-600 out of the price range i want to pay

Yeah those are both a little rough. $800 for the SE-i would be a fair deal IMO. Doubt either of those would come down that much.

wow remind me to never buy cars in tx lol i paid 500 for my hatch with 180k on it lol original owner and thats the most ive ever paid for a 3g lol the others ones were 300 and 400 and in way better shape then those lol

fallen40379

looks like i am gonna hold out for a better deal. It is tempting, i got the lx-i down to 800, but its got some serious body damage

Stay with the sedan. If it's your only car it will be more functional. Chances are if you sell the sedan then buy the coupe, you will still have to fix junk on it.

ShyBoyCA6
02-15-2010, 01:09 PM
Damn what a rip off I would keep searching for better 3g cause those are shit its not even worth paying more than a grand for a 3g unless well taking care of unless you want to TLC of it then buy it and keep your sedan too if you want a coupe keep it till you fix it how you like it and maybe if you want you could part out your sedan to fix the coupe but I say just keep both of them

THAT RED COUPE IS NOT AN LX-i! It's a DX. Notice the color, lack of anything on the dash, unpainted door handles, and different mirrors. LX-i's had the upgraded climate control and they all had power mirrors and windows.

fallen40379
02-15-2010, 05:53 PM
i did notice the lack of power windows, locks and mirrors to be odd. I really want a hatch, but that will never happen here cause i havent seen one on the road yet

Coupes are by far my favorite, seconded by aerodecks, then hatches, then sedans. I think the sedans look weird, especially the '86-7 (tail lights). I wouldn't mind having an SE-i sedan with a Vigor trunk lid. That's the only way I'd take a 3g sedan. Now if there was a wagon...

Oh, by the way: Coupes, hatches and aerodecks* (I think) never had the option for power locks.

very simple...coupes do it better

the red coupe is a fake lx-i not the real thing lx-i comes with power window and the ac controls are not from the lx-i ...and you can tell the Lx-i badge has been tamper with....if you want check it out 100 percent sure its Carb

You also mentioned that the badge was tampered with. I noticed nothing. How do you know that the light wasn't replaced with one from an LX-i?

ShyBoyCA6
02-15-2010, 09:00 PM
hmm well i notice that the right tail light looks a bit smaller and it looks like its poping out and looks like they took the tail light from a lxi and up it on a dx my bad its not tamper it looks a bit slanted but maybe its the pic

I thought coupes only came in lx-i and lx? and se-i obviously. thats for sure a DX though in Phoenix Red and with black interior.

you should buy it just because its rare :P

Sedan ('86-9): DX, LX, LX-i, SE-i*
Hatch ('86-9): DX, LX-i (no LX or SE-i)
Coupe ('88-9): DX, LX-i, SE-i* (no LX)

*SE-i: '89 only

the red dx needs some exterior restoration, plus its an auto, which is a complete turn off for me, and its red

It comes down to form vs. function for you. If you like the look of a coupe, and are prepared to sacrifice some flexibility (it's real easy to open the sedan's rear doors and throw stuff in, people included), then you might go for it. I personally don't like the way the shoulder belts go out with the coupe's doors, instead of hanging on the B pillars in the sedan.

Then, there's the devil-that-you-know vs. the devil you don't idea. You know what you have now, but the new car might surprise you with repairs.

Finally, if I had a chance to upgrade, my priority would be to get a stick shift over the slush box. That would be the most satisfying to me. Next would be a fuel injected car. I wouldn't change until you could get both of those. Then, worry about coupe vs. sedan.

^ That's exactly how I feel. Coupes are way better looking (admit it!), but sedans are by far more practical.

thats when i have to come crawling out from under the rock with a 4spd (5th is broken) FI sedan.... i want hatch with all the features (or a coupe). it will probably never happen though.

good news, i found a 1987 honda accord hatchback, its supposedly an se, its in really good shape and they only want 800 for it. Unfortunantly its an automatic >_< only 163k miles though. gonna find out if its FI or carbed

I've had two, so I don't see why not. I've gone to see a dozen SE-i coupes from Craig's List within the past seven months. There were a lot I missed, too.

camping out the night, i talked to the lady (sounded sexy, but voices are decieving sometimes) we talked for about 15min, she told me that she wont sell it till i get a chance to test drive it and that is has a issue with the xmission, said it will bog down randomly, i think its a ground or the fluid... she said it was pretty random though and it never stranded her.:ugh2:

Search. And, it wouldn't be too hard to fabricate a badge.

Well, it's not like someone else is going to search for you. Someone would go out of their way to make a DX-i badge if they're seriously proud of what they've done.
