ok so my friend has a white 1st gen integra hatch, 1.6 DOHC, and he wants to know if i want to trade for my 400ex. my 400ex is worth about 2000 but i want a project car, its auto so i would have to start with a 5 speed swap but do these cars have potential? if so then i might take this trade and have a clean 1st gen teg

Kinda in the same boat as the 3G, extremely limited aftermarket but there's still some old stuff floating around. I really like them, their only big downside for me is the weird suspension.

Those cars have more performance potential than the CA5 Accords. Hasport makes a AV/DA1 Integra B-series mount kit I think. Also, I think the JDM DOHC ZC is a fairly simple bolt in procedure. They came with rear disc brakes as well. The JDM ZC pushed about 129 HP and 106 TQ. That would be about a 11 HP gain over the USDM engine. with a nice quality air intake and exhaust set up you could push about 140 hp. The ZC long block can be had at hmotorsonline.com for about $700 + shipping. Combined with some weight reduction you could have a swift first gen Integra :) Or like I said just go with a JDM B16A but that would be alot more expensive.

Sounds like a lot of money if you really want a 5-speed version instead.

Guess I'll have a thread on mine in the projects area in a few minutes.

Haven't driven it yet but feels flimsier shutting the doors than my '79 Accord does despite weighing 100kg more, still lighter than 3g Accord though!... Chassis was based on 3rd gen Civic with beam rear axle & torsion-bar sprung front struts... But engine always reputed to be far revvier & "sportier" than the Accords.

That engine should have like a 6900 rev limit. And it's at least DOHC and produces about 118 hp in the USDM models (129 hp in the JDM models).

how is the performance in these cars compared to my sedan? im sure its faster but by how much? im thinking of offereing him the trade and 400 cash, so i can have some money for the 5 speed swap it will for sure get.

It's not exactly complementary to the Accord but here's an Australian comparison between the Integra 5dr (badged as Rover- but built in Japan by Honda) & a carburetored Accord sedan. Figures might vary for US spec, & Integra 3dr had shorter wheelbase than 5dr & should weigh less. I'd love to see other comparisons.

Obviously the Accord should be more comfortable to use on a daily basis with its extra torque & cruiser top gear :D
But if you want a toy car...

If your 400ex is worth $2000 to you, that is not a good trade. I would say in excellent condition that Integra is worth about half of that so trade + cash on your part is not a nice deal IMO.
