when i go to warm up my car in the morning (86 accord LX), i start it and it instantly goes to 2100 rpm and sits for a minute or 2. then, it goes to up to 2500 rpm. i then rev up to about 4000 rpm and it goes back down to 2000-2100 rpm and sits until its almost ready. then when its about halfway warm, it goes down to 1900 and then sits there until its warm and then i kick it a tad and it goes down to normal idle at 1000.

thats on a good day.

on a bad day, here's what happens:

instantly idles at 2100. and like usual, it climbs to 2500. i rev it to 4000 like normal and it wont go back down to the 2100 range. it just sticks at 2500 or so. then, itl climb to 2800-3000 and stick for a minute or so. i then rev it up to 4000 a few times and then it decides to go down to 2100. and by the time it does that, my temp gauge is in the upper quarter of being really fucking hot.

and in order to put it into gear when it does that, i turn the a/c on to lower the idle a little and then go. but when i drive it, its got a ton of power and energy and "giddy up". and when i get to a stoplight, its hard to stop because its wanting to idle at 1500-1800. once i drive it on the highway for a while, it calms down.

its getting to the point where its really pissing me off.

ive ran this cleaner called Seafoam though it and its done nothing.

ran fine in the summer.

235,600 miles.

please help?- Matt

You more than likely have a problem with the fast idle pulloff.
There are sections in the manual that explain the troubleshooting steps.
Good luck.
