Ok the brake had been soft and took longer to stop than usual. So today i check for leaks because the master cylinder was a little low.So i find a small leak in the little steel line going to wheel cylinder.well i had a couple laying around so i changed it and bled it about10 times and the pedal is hard til i start it up, than it gets soft again. So i guess it still has air in there.Any suggestion what else to check.

I always bleed mine with the car running.

Sounds just like what mine does around every 100K miles. The master cylinder piston has rubber seals on it that get worn. When mine does the soft pedal thing it will be in hot weather. When the engine is cold the brakes are fine, but once the engine compartment heats up and the brake fluid thins a little the pedal goes soft and basically only half the brake system works. Master cylinder is my guess and if that's it no amount of bleeding's going to help it. M/C's are pretty cheap and the aftermarket ones I've used lasted as long as the original - about $60 new with lifetime warranty from O'Reilly's.

You didn't search, did you?

I did, and here's a lovely post of mine from the second thread that my search, "soft brake pedal" returned to me: http://www.3geez.com/forum/showpost.php?p=988578&postcount=6

And another post, by me, on diagnosing and bleeding brakes: http://www.3geez.com/forum/showpost.php?p=860394&postcount=25

Maybe try just a little next time? Good luck with the brakes though.

When i bled the back brake i couldn't get the bleeder screw to turn so i bled it at the line.Didn't want to break the screw off,can i get the air out by bleeding the line on the wheel cylinder.

Well i think i got it,had to bleed it at the propotioning valve.

How would you go about bleading a proportion valve like you said above lol.

Same as bleeding brake line, pump it up and crack open line on the valve.I'd bleed it at the bleeder screws but they won't budge, and don't have money for new wheel cylinders.

but there isnt a valve on the prop valve to bleed...

No I'm bleeding the lines at the prop valve, got some air out but still have soft brakes.Other than getting wheel cylinders so i can bleed back brakes instead of at the lines I don't know what else to try.I'm getting tired of fucking with this and getting nowhere.

hm... try replacing the prop valve.

Your creativity is commendable, but I think you'll have a lot better luck fixing those bleed screws and then bleeding it properly. That's why they're there. You're just prolonging the agony if you do it any other way.

Thought about changing the prop valve but not sure that's the problem. The bleeder on the rear are too rusted to try and get out, thats why I tried the lines. This all started when the front steel line went, since replacing it and bleeding ,It hasn't been right.

Did you try bleeping the entire system, and not just that one weel cylinder? Prehaps when the steel pipe cracked, it may of let air into the entire system. There may be a bubble of air going to the other cylinders or maybe to the front brakes.

No bled all lines coming out of proportion valve,a little better but have to wait til i have money for wheel cylinders.

Did you try bench bleeding the Master cylinder, and checking for fluid leakage into the booster?

It's not going down in the master, brakes were fine til line broke and i replaced the hard line and rubber line.Gonna try wheel cylinders off a 93,my brother has one for parts and the brakes are in good shape.

Why not just buy the proper parts? They are cheap, and fit.
