so, today was driving home and i almost ran into someone. the brakes barely grab until the pedal is pushed all the way down, and then they lock up. chceked the pads, they are fine. bled the brakes, good. one thing i noticed on the right side of the engine bay on the firewall, there are two hoses connected together with a little connector, it seems as if something was disconnected there and they just put hose in between to hoses (where a module used to go?) just a thought. not an expert on brakes so idk. also, when i hold the clutch and brake and shut off the car, the break pedal gains lots of pressure after the car is turned off, doesnt this mean that there is vacuum? Thanks in advance .:hmph:

ever hear a hissing sound under the dash? i ask because thats what mine did when i first got it. it ended up being an air leak at the brake booster

sounds like you have one half of the system failed, probably the master cylinder. The brakes are connected diagonally so if it locks up one front and one rear I'd change the master cylinder.

no hissing, the brakes lock up together, but only when i floor it. it feels like the pads are dead, but they arent. for sure, i checked.

pumping the brakes adds enough pressure for them to work right, but that BLOWS. lol :P

Then you need to bleed them, mine was like that til i got a wheel cylinder and bled them well.

i bled them well, only a steady stream of fluid comes out, no air bubbles or sputtering. for sure they were bled right

Thats the hose for the brake booster, there should be a valve in there to hold pressure. That could be your problem.

yeah its carbureted, fuel line runs down the firewall to the left of the brake booster.

What is the name of the valve? Check valve? Couldnt find it on autozone's website. Thanks guys.

Get one from the junkyard; I may even have a spare because I brought a brake booster (mine was busted) and took all the hoses with it.

there some usually hanging up at any parts store aisle. Just use one that fits the hose you have.
